My Ferts Banner (12645 bytes)

Ferrets are by far one of the most enjoyable pets I have ever owned.  I've had dogs and cats and had to leave my cat with my parents when I moved out.

Why a ferret?  They are really intelligent, they love to play, they want your attention, they always bring a smile to my face and, as a friend puts it, are incredibly cute.

I am a fan of Japanese Animation (anime) and have named all three of my ferts after the OVA series Tenchi Muyo!

This is Tenchi, I bought him at a Sears Pet Center (which has now gone the way of the dinosaur) and he was just 6-8 weeks old when I got him.  They had this poor guy in an aquarium with 6 other kits (baby ferrets).   When I picked him up he was in heaven and even ran up to my shoulder for a better look at me.  He is the smartest one in the business (group of ferrets) and is currently the Alpha (leader) of the business.  He is a classic sable and is absolutely beautiful and well tempered.  He does not nip unless I am rough housing with him and then it is very light.  He loves giving me kisses, but does like to be independent now and then.  He loves bananna raisin treats, beef treats, certain peanut butter treats, linatone and my instant iced tea drink.  His main toy is a sisal ball that I bought.  He is good with children and other pets such as my parent's dog.

Ryo Playing Tekken (32926 bytes)

This is Ryo-Ohki, she was picked up at a pet store that didn't know how to treat ferrets (or any other kind of animal).  She was in a small cage with another kit (which my roommate bought) with no food, water or litter pan.  She is a heavy (as in colour, she is no where near being fat) silver.   She enjoys having her belly rubbed, chasing a towel across the floor and playing with polar fleece balls.  She can be nippy at times, but has never broken skin.   She enjoys attention from people and other ferrets but does not like other animals.   She is very independent, but will take time to give kisses.

Ayeka changing games (26014 bytes)

This is Lady Ayeka and she was bought from the same pet store as Ryo-Ohki.  She was in the same tiny cage with 19 other kits.  Since she was so abused at a very young age (around 5 weeks old) she is very skittish and will nip from time to time, usually around the wrist.  She has never broken my skin, but has with my roommate.  She enjoys other ferrets and enjoys attention from other people, but she plays rough.  She is number two in the pecking order and takes the Alpha slot if Tenchi is gone for more than a few days.   She has also been the toughest to litter train outside of the cage.  Her favourite toy is a polar fleece heart and she also loves a Wooly Bally that my roommate picked up.

I currently rent a room from another ferret owner, Caity.  She has 5 ferrets and all of our ferrets get along really well.  I'll be moving out soon and then it will be just me and my three, but I really enjoy having her ferts around.

I get a lot of questions about ferrets and I try to be patient and explain the special attraction that I have to the fuzzies. They have a personality mix between a dog and a cat, making them smart, loyal and playful. Each ferret I have met has a distinct personality.

Tenchi is quite the leader and takes his role as the Alpha in the business quite seriously, he is very playful, but keeps an eye on the others.

Ryo-ohki is the ferret of a thousand faces. She can drastically alter her expression and is quite adept at begging for treats (it seems that she can smell a treat a mile away). She is also very lovable, but can hold a grudge for quite some time.

Lady Ayeka is named after a princess and acts like one as well. She is always ready to jump at your legs to let you know that you are not spending enough time playing with her. Often she will wait for you to turn your back and then sprint across the room and jump at the back of your legs, often holding on to the pant leg with her paws and then looking right up at you, somehow her eyes just gleam with mischievious thoughts.
