"We are under siege! Decepticons,
transform!"
Preamble: Twilight is among the unnamed
Decepticon jets who appears in the three-part Transformers pilot episode,
"More Than Meets the Eye." Most people recognize her as one of the
troops who jumped off the personnel elevator in mid-trip to confront the
Autobots who attacked the Decepticons' second space cruiser just prior to
lift-off. (There's also a purple-colored jet present during the
Decepticons' first energy raid, and I think this might be Twilight as well.)
Anyway, the character gained popularity in some circles after Raksha
(a longtime member of the fandom well-known for her pro-Decepticon views)
discovered her existence and christened the character the Lady in Purple.
There's no direct evidence that she's female, of course, but it's fun
to pretend that there was a female soldier in the ranks. I took the
idea and ran with it, adopting Raksha's name for the character. (I've
also written a fanfic about Twilight and what
I suspect happened to her following the space cruiser crash.)
Construction: Twilight was one of the first
Decepticon background characters I painted. Most of the generic
Decepticon jets follow the same basic template as Thundercracker, only with
some variant color substituted for the blue, so characters like Twilight
who deviate from that pattern are always more interesting to me.
Unfortunately, this color scheme would pretty much be impossible for
Hasbro to produce as an actual toy, since her air intakes are a separate
color from her upper body, which would necessitate some kind of new paint
operation for her production run. It's still fun to imagine what her
official toy might look like,
though.
Addendum: Twilight has a
similar-colored companion I've named
Starlight, who has also gotten a
PVC repaint in his likeness.

FUNCTION: COMBAT STRATEGIST
"The greatest battles are won by the greatest
minds."
Devises most of the Decepticons' warfare
strategies and tactics...highly competent, but confounded by Autobot behavior.
Extremely agile... has greatest aerial maneuverability of the Decepticon
jets. Launches blinding starburst bombs in jet mode...carries solid
energy beam cannons in robot mode. Armor is nearly impenetrable, but
susceptible to strong energy-based attacks.
