| AFTERSHOCK
PROJECT #246
CLASSIFICATION: REPAINT/CUSTOM
BASE FIGURE: HEROES OF CYBERTRON THUNDERCRACKER (OTFCC
REPAINT)
MATERIALS USED: ACRYLIC PAINTS
FIRST APPEARANCE: "MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE" PART 1
"Uh-oh. A Decepticon welcoming
committee!"
Preamble: Aftershock isn't the most
interesting-looking Decepticon in history, but he's part of the group of
generic jet troopers who appears in the pilot episode, and it just seems
silly somehow to do PVC versions of his buddies
Heatwave and
Wasteland and not include him as
well. So, here he is in all his blue, remarkably-uninteresting glory.
Construction: Aftershock appears
to only have one weapon, which he carries in his hands like a rifle rather
than having a pair of arm-mounted guns like most of the other Decepticon
jets. So, I plugged up the holes in his arms with putty and drilled
a hole into his fist so he could carry it. (Yes, I deliberately made
the rifle baby blue. It kind of stands out like a malfunctioning opposable
digital unit, but it's right there in the episode, so...)
I stuck to the colors of his screen appearance
pretty closely, but I had to guess as to the color of his feet. I'd
thought about leaving the top section of his canopy blue, but then I realized
how immensely daft that prospect was, and that's it's perfectly legitimate
to correct what was almost certainly a coloring oversight.
Comments: When Takara was looking
through the G1 episodes and looking for generic characters to turn into toys,
I guess I can understand why they picked the yellow guy. Flamethrower's
got that backpack accessory that would be difficult to reproduce for the
toy (unless they wanted to throw in a G2-style sound-and-light pack, that
is), and Aftershock here really does look a lot like Thundercracker.
(That said, I wouldn't be at all disappointed to see Takara do another
one of these guys at some point. I think
Slaughterhouse would
be a great candidate.)
AFTERSHOCK
FUNCTION: SHARPSHOOTER
"Just because the danger has passed doesn't
mean you're safe."
AFTERSHOCK is cocky, arrogant, egotistical,
flamboyant...openly impressed with his own skill. Frequently takes
credit for others' accomplishments. In jet mode, uses wing-mounted
electronic override mines that interrupt Autobot circuit pathways...effects
last up to 12 hours. In robot mode, can pinpoint a thumbtack from a
distance of 3.2 miles...uses rapid-fire electricity guns that can override
the circuitry in an opponent.
