| MOJO
JOJO
PROJECT #203
CLASSIFICATION: REPAINT
MATERIALS USED: ACRYLIC PAINTS
"Ah, yes! The Giganto Destructo Powerpuffo
Ray! The only ray giant enough to destroy the Powerpuff Girls!"
Preamble: There really isn't much
to say about this project. Originally, this was the Sparking Mojo Jojo
Ray Gun toy from the Subway restaurants Powerpuff Girls promotion
in 2001. The toy was cast entirely in purple sparkly plastic, and when
you squeezed a trigger it struck a sparking flint and the entire toy lit
up. I got a set of these for my kids, who were big PPG fans when they
were little, but I think they gave Mojo a bath in the sink at one point,
and he stopped working. I had no way of repairing him (like most fast
food toys, he's held together with those annoying screws with the triangular
holes) so I did the next best thing and painted him.
Construction: This toy is actually
a really good sculpt, but that didn't become apparent to me until I brought
it out with the appropriate colors. The helmet was the hardest part;
I'd originally planned to do a paint wash on it, filling in the grooves with
purple paint and then wiping off the excess, but that didn't work out too
well so I ended up having to paint over the white parts of the helmet again.
Comments: I think he looks really
cool. The kids liked him, too, though I think they were a little
disappointed that I wouldn't let them play with it. (I doubt my model
paints are non-toxic.) |
