Comments: Back when I built Blitzwing's
tank mode, I was mostly taking existing vehicles and painting them without
making too many modifications. I did take the extra step of cutting
the canopy off a cheap plastic jet, painting it, and gluing it to the front
of his tank form. (In a moment of whimsy, I also drew his
partially-obscured robot face beneath the canopy. I don't think it's
actually visible in the show when he's transformed, but I found it amusing.)
It took me a while to get around to doing his jet form, since I was convinced
that he wasn't really based on any existing plane. In fact, I already
had a Blitzwing-shaped plane in my collection, but what threw me off was
all that excessive undercarriage kibble that would prevent any real jet from
ever getting off the ground. Rather than painting the toy only, I cobbled
together some extra-thick wing sections (using discarded wings from a Heroes
of Cybertron figure) and added some of the panels and hinges and things
(check out the tank-mode wheels on the top of the wings). |
