"I formed this team to battle Decepticons on Earth, not cosmic menaces in outer space!"--G. B. Blackrock, TRANSFORMERS #74
G. B. Blackrock, multi-millionaire with the mysterious first
initials, was the first human ally for the Autobots in the Marvel comics.
Some years later, he assembled the Neo-Knights, an assembled team of
paranormals with bad attitudes but good hearts. Blackrock featured
prominently in the last few issues of the comic, in which the Neo-Knights
helped destroy present-day Unicron and defeat Bludgeon's Decepticons on planet
Klo.
Needless to say, this project could hardly be considered a full-scale kitbash. ("Customization" would be a more accurate description.) The hardest part was actually finding a businessman action figure in the first place.
Parts Used:
The J. Jonah Jameson figure from the Spider-Man: Spider Force line.
Various technorganic supplies (X-Acto knife, modeling putty, plastic sheet, Testors paints).
Construction:
Fortunately, his vest was a separate piece (as is the
newspaper--which believe it or not, has actually got a story printed on it),
so I didn't have to worry about dealing with that. Just because I was
feeling persnickety, I fixed a few minor problems with the sculpt where the
front and back of his arms didn't quite match up at the seam.
Next, I had to give him a decent head of hair. If I had demonstrated any foresight, I would have gone back and read up on how I handled giving hair to my Rapture kitbash. As it was, I stupidly assumed that I had used modeling putty, and so set about to sculpt his hair out of the stuff. It ended up moving around a lot, was nearly impossible to work with, and I am amazingly surprised his hair ended up turning out as good as it did.
I spent an inordinate amount of time searching for glasses for this guy. After resigning myself to the fact that I refused to buy an eight dollar Austin Powers toy just to get glasses that were too big in the first place, I made them myself out of a plastic shelf tag backer. (I've still got about a kazillion of these things laying around.) The glasses are one piece of plastic, with the "frames" painted around the lenses.
I
painted his shirt flat white, his pants flat black (mixed with a touch of
brown), and his necktie purple with light purple stripes. I sliced
the Hitler moustache off with an X-Acto knife and painted the new one on
with a toothpick.
All that was left after painting him was to glue his glasses on (I am not going to lose those little buggers again). I suppose I could have painted his arms and face a more realistic shade, but I didn't see the point in wasting paint to fix something that ain't broke.
Estimated Zob-Hours Spent: Two? This ain't rocket science, folks.
