Chapter 6
Chapter 6: Voyage aboard the SS Dove!
Last time, Mike and Matt arrived at Viridian City, and met a new friend. Matt also captured his Second new Pokemon, Rattata. Unfortunately, the gym was closed but just then out of the shadows, a man arrived offering tickets to the Gold and Silver Islands! And now, the next episode in Matt's Pokemon Journey reveals what happens next!
<Inside a tall dark building east of Viridian City>
"You have done good." Says Giovanni, sinister leader of Team Rocket
"Thank-you Sir." Replied the stranger.
"But, there is one last thing I want you to do for me. I can't trust those idiots Lucy and Thomas."
"And what would that job be sir?"
"I need you to make sure that Matthew Hone and his friends perish on the boat. I want Bulbasaur and the other pokemon ALIVE though, and I would be most displeased if they died aswell." Giovanni's Persian purred alongside him.
"Yes sir. I won't fail you."
<Scene switch; Our heroes are eating breakfast at the Pokemon Center>
"Our trip is scheduled for 11:00 today, but trainers have to be aboard by 10:30." Said Mike.
"We better hurry," Cheryl said, "It's 9:15 now." They rushed to the docks west of Viridian City. Thankfully they saw a big cruise liner docked with the words SS Dove II imprinted on the bow.
Suddenly, the speakers beside them burst out with the words, "All pokemon trainers, repeat all Pokemon trainers boarding the SS Dove, please show your tickets at the ticket office!"
"We better go there now." Said Mike. The three friends ran down the hill to the dock, then hurried inside the Ticket office. The ticket office was crammed with many young people and Pokemon everywhere. Matt, Cheryl and Mike ran up to the ticket counter, and they were asked by Officer Jenny to show their tickets. She looked closely at them, then stamped then valid. "You three have fun on the islands, Awww, how cute!" She said as she looked at Bulbasaur sitting by Matts side. "Well anyway, have a pleasant voyage Goodbye!"
As the three friends walked out the office, Cheryl said, "I've heard a lot about the Gold and Silver Islands. Apparently, the Moltres' Nest is in the Volcano on Gold Island, and Articuno's Nest is in the Ice Caves on Silver Island."
"Wow, cool! Two of the legendary birds! I hope to catch one." Matt said.
Mike shook his head and replied, "You probably wont even see them. There are very rare, and most trainers have never caught them"
Just then, the speakers burst once again to life; "This is the last call! All trainers and V.I.P's make your way to the boat! Repeat, all trainers make your way to the boat now please!"
They rushed to the docks and up the stairways to the boat. There they met a man with a captain's uniform on. "Hello!" he said. "Welcome to the SS Dove II! I will be your captain for this voyage to the Gold and Silver Islands! Thank-you for coming!"
As soon as our heroes past by, the Captain brought out a small radio from his pocket. "They are aboard sir."
Giovanni's voice returned through the radio, "Good, very good. Now, snatch that Bulbasaur and bring it to me. Oh, and make sure that Tom and Lucy don't sneak aboard and ruin everything. Over and out." The captain smiled, and closed the door, then walked toward the bridge.
As soon as all the ports were closed, and the anchor was hauled up, the boat sets sail out of Viridian Harbour, and out into the sea. Meanwhile, our three friends and Bulbasaur have found their cabin. They decide to explore the boat, and find other trainers. Matt suggested up on deck, but Mike said he would like to go aft and fish. Cheryl said she didn't mind where they went, so they decided to go aft, then go to the middle of the top deck, to meet other trainers.
They walked to the back part of the ship, and met dozens of Fishermen with rods, trying to capture water pokemon. One man groaned as he got another Magikarp, but another one yelled as he caught a Staryu. Mike, Cheryl and Matt went to an empty space by the railing, and Mike pulled out a Super Rod. He also pulled out a Good rod and gave it to Matt. "It's not as good as mine, but you can still catch some fish." He said as he set his rod out over the railing. "Do you know how to use a rod?" Matt did because with back home he used his Mom's old rod to capture Magikarp for dinner.
"Yeah thanks." He cast his rod, and Cheryl just stood and watched.
After about 15 minutes, he caught a Magikarp, then Mike caught a Horsea. Half an hour passed, and Matt just kept catching Magikarp, and kept throwing them back, but finally, 10 minutes later, he captured a Goldeen.
"Thank god! I thought I was just gonna keep catching Magikarps!" Matt exclaimed. Cheryl just smiled. Meanwhile, Mike hadn't had much luck either, but just then he felt a big tug on the line, and he pulled out a Shellder! Nearby, a fisherman was watching them, and offered to battle Mike, water pokemon against water pokemon. "Ok," Mike replied. "I'll choose Shellder, Horsea and Poliwag."
"Huh?" Said Matt. "I didn't know you had a Poliwag!"
"Oh yeah, I captured it back in Cerulean, I just didn't use it in a battle against you just in case it thrashed you."
The fisherman chose a Seaking, a Goldeen and a Magikarp. "Ok then, let's start this battle quickly. GO, GOLDEEN!" Shouted the Fisherman.
"Go, Shellder!" Yelled Mike.
"Goldeen, use Peck!"
"Shellder, WITHDRAW!" The Goldeen dived on Shellder but bit into nothing but hard shell.
"Ok Shellder, Aurora Beam!" Shellder let out a blue beam from one of its horns. The fisherman had to recall Goldeen before it got thrown off the deck.
"Damn. Seaking, GO!"
"Shellder, withdraw then Aurora Beam!"
"Seaking, Horn attack!!!" But, the horn only made a slight dent in Shellder's shell. Then, the Aurora beam hit Seaking in its chest.
"Seaking, WATERFALL!"
"Shellder, Tackle attack!"
Seaking dived only to hit the wooden deck. The last thing it saw before it fainted was Shellder slamming into it.
"Oh, S***. Seaking, return! GO, MAGIKARP!" yelled the Fisherman.
"Shellder, have a rest! Go, GOLDEEN!"
"Magikarp, SPLASH ATTACK!"
"Gol gol gol gol deen!" Laughed Mikes Goldeen as the splash attack made no effect.
"Um, Goldeen, could you use your Horn attack please?"
The Magikarp was knocked out in one hit. "Oh damn," Said the Fisherman. "Here, take this money kid, and also take this TM, Waterfall."
"Oh yeah! Thanks man!" Mike used the TM on his Poliwag, then returned Goldeen, who was still laughing, to its Pokeball. Mike turned to his friends. "It's getting late guys, how about we hit the hay?"
"Not yet, I want to capture a few more Pokemon. Could I borrow your rod please?" Asked Matt.
"Sure, could I have my other one back?"
Matt handed the Good rod back, then cast his rod. A few minutes later, he caught a Staryu and a Shellder. "Bulbasaur Razor Leaf," he muttered. Bulbasaur used his attack with devastating effect. The Staryu fell. "Pokeball, GO!"
He turned to Mike. "Now we can go."
They were on their way back to the cabin when Tim stepped out from the shadows. "Hi Matt, remember me?"
Matt shot around. "Oh, hi Tim! How's it going?"
"Great thanks. I've caught some new Pokemon too. Wanna battle?"
"Sure. Bulbasaur, GO!" Matt yelled.
"Ok. Squirtle, I CHOOSE YOU" Tim replied.
"Bulbasaur, Vine-whip!"
"Squirtle, WITHDRAW!"
The vines hit Squirtle's shell and sent it flying. "Squirtle, WATER GUN!"
"Bulbasaur, RAZOR LEAF!"
Squirtle popped his head and paws out of his shell, only to find Bulbasaur's leaves heading towards its head. Frantically it jumped back into its Pokeball. "Right. Go, Sandshrew!" Shouted Tim.
"Bulbasaur, VINE WHIP!"
"Sandshrew, SLASH ATTACK!"
Sandshrew claw came down onto Bulbasaur's head, but the Vines hit Sandshrew straight in the stomach. It was momentarily winded. Bulbasaur cried in pain at his wound, but stood up. Suddenly it's eyes glowed bright blood red, and it threw it's head back and roared, "SAAAAAAAUUUUUURRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". The whole group nearly jumped out of their skin, and the roar was heard all across the boat, even down in the kitchens.
In his trembling hands, Matt pulled out Dex and pointed it at the insane Bulbasaur.
"Bulbasaurs rage attack. Normally pokemon can only use four moves, but all Pokemon can use the move rage at all times, if they are angered enough. Bulbasaurs rage is one of the most powerful but is rarely seen because most scientists run away at the ferocious site. This is one of the many mysteries of Pokemon not yet known to mankind."
Then, Bulbasaur jumped on top of Sandshrew and started biting and scratching. The poor Sandshrew tried using slash over and over, but it had no effect over the mad Bulbasaur.
Matt fumbled for Bulbasaurs Pokeball and returned it, leaving Sandshrew unconscious on the floor.
"Wow," said Tim." Ok then, go RATICATE!"
"Go, Staryu!"
"Matt!" said Mike, "Are you sure that's wise? You've only just captured Staryu!"
"It's alright Mike. I know what I'm doing. STARYU, WATER GUN!"
"Raticate, QUICK ATTACK!"
"STARYU, RETURN! Shellder, GO!"
Raticate charged at Shellder, but Shellder just withdrew into its shell and Raticate hit the wall.
"Shellder, clamp!"
Raticate screamed in agony. "Raticate, HYPER FANG!" But Raticate was unable to move!
"Shellder Clamp again!!"
Tim returned Raticate to it's Pokeball, then sent out a Pidgey.
"Shellder, Ice Beam!" Shouted Matt. The attack missed, and froze a part of the ocean.
"Pidgey, use your GUST!"
"Shellder, withdraw, then use water gun!"
Pidgey started flapping its wings wildly, but the Gust had no effect on Shellder. Shellder returned the attacks with water gun.
"Pidgey, Quick attack!"
Pidgey then flew faster than Matt could blink, and ran itself into Shellder. Shellder bounced back onto the deck, and just stared at the Pidgey. Then it's eyes turned into black swirls. "Shellder, return!" Shellder zapped back into the Pokeball.
"Go, Goldeen!"
Luckily for Matt, the Pidgey was weakened in the last battle with Shellder. "Goldeen, Horn attack!" Matt yelled. Pidgey yelped with pain, then fainted. "Yeah!" Matt shouted. "I won! But, Tim, you were pretty good." Matt had to admit. "Take this cash Tim. Go spend it on some Pokeballs and potions."
"Wow, thanks Matt! You're such a good sport! I hope we meet again!"
Tim walked off back to his cabin, and so did Matt and Mike. Cheryl had a cabin next door. Not long after that, they were all in bed, thinking of what would happen the next day, and what adventure they would have on the Gold and Silver Islands.
