Chapter 1
Cyndaquils' Story
Chapter 1: A Different Point of View
Authors note: Since this story is in the point of view of a Pokémon, then anything a Pokémon says is translated to English. Enjoy!
"Okay fine mother but how am I going to learn anything if every time a human comes by you make me hide," I said to my mother.
"That is how your father and your brother got captured by some humans," she repeated to me.
"So I am old enough to leave the group," I said.
"No you are not we have been through this before," she said.
"But mom," I yelled.
"Don't "but mom" me," she said, "now go back to the niche while I get some food for us," my mom said.
"Yes mother," I said walking back to the niche.
I had never liked living there I was always made fun of. Everyone always called me by "smoked" because I have never got my flame to light on my back. It is humiliating to be the only Cyndaquil that can't shot little ember balls or make the flame on my back light. I reached the niche to see the other Cyndaquils playing and their Quilava mothers or fathers watching them. The leader of this niche a Typhlosion name Typhe was captured by humans so no child Cyndaquils were to be left alone without supervision. Which ended out games of Hide and Seek.
"Hey looked it's smoked," Cyn said he was the one who had made up my stupid name in the first place.
"Yeah what do you want?" I asked.
"Everyone is about to start the Ember Ball contest you want to join," he said obviously joking around because I couldn't shot an Ember ball even if I tried my hardest.
"No," I said.
"Why?" he said. "Is it because old smoked here couldn't make an ember ball? You can still help you can kick up the sticks for us."
"Okay," I said.
"Good," he said as he left to go and tell the other Cyndaquils.
"Ready?" I said.
"Yeah," Cyn said.
Here are the rules for this very simple game I throw up one stick into the air and the Cyndaquil to hit it when it gets the highest wins.
"Okay here I go," I grabbed one of the sticks in my mouth and slingshot it into the air. All the Cyndaquils shot an Ember ball at it everyone missed except Jenda.
"Awww,,," Cyn said.
"Yeah way to go Jenda," I yelled.
"Hey what is the big idea," Cyn said.
"Nothin'," I said.
"Good," he said.
Cyn had always considered himself Jenda's mate those she never even talks to him.
"Fearow," a bird said.
I looked up to see a very big Fearow flying overhead.
"Watch this," Cyn said as he shot out an Ember ball it flu up and hit Fearow.
"Ahhhh," it yelled in pain.
"Ha isn't that funny," Cyn said.
A lot of the other Cyndaquils ran off to go meet there parents because they were afraid. Only me Jenda and Cyn were out in the open.
"You stupid Cyndaquils you will pay for what you did," the enraged Fearow yelled down at us.
"Ha, what are you going to do you stupid excuse for a Pokémon," Cyn said taunting the bird.
"You will see," the Fearow said as it dived towards us.
I jumped out of the way but Jenda stood there frozen in fear.
"I am out of here," Cyn said as he ran off into some bushes.
The other Cyndaquils and Quilavas had already left to go back to the niche.
"Run Jenda," I yelled she didn't move.
I ran out into the field and tackle her out of the way just as the Fearow was inches away from her. She was thrown into some stubs but I was hit by Fearow and was sent flying.
"Ahh,' I yelled in pain as I hit a rock.
I tried to stand up the pain from my back leg was shocking I quickly laid back down.
"At least Jenda is okay," I whispered to myself.
"You will never do that again," the Fearow said flapping his wings trying to gain more altitude to attack again.
Got to try to get my flame on. I concentrated as hard as I could but it didn't seem to work. Jenda shook her head out of the bush to see me hurt with a broke leg and a Fearow almost high enough getting ready to attack again.
"Smokey," she yelled.
That was the first time in a long time anyone had called me by my real name.
"Can't move hurt leg," I yelled in pain.
"I am coming," she said starting to run towards me.
"No don't come run," I yelled.
"But what about you?" she asked.
"Just go!" I yelled at her.
I turned my head away because of the pain.
The Fearow began to dive at top speed at me. It was about to hit me when an Ember ball hit it off balance knocking it away from me.
"I am not leaving you," Jenda yelled at me her flame was powered up higher than I have ever seen it.
"What was that!!" the Fearow yelled surprise.
"Why don't you leave us alone," Jenda yelled.
"Please, now it is time for a taste of your own medicine," the Fearow said standing up.
"What are you doing?" I yelled.
"Mirror Move," it yelled as it shot out and ember ball at me. It hit me and hurt a lot more than normal I think because of my hurt leg.
"Stop," Jenda yelled as she let out another ember ball, this time it was deflected by the birds own ember ball the heat from the two attacks melted the rock I was lying on.
The rock started to glow a blue color and some of the melted rock got in my mouth I swallowed it. I felt fine like the pain was gone but only for a second it returned.
The bird some how dodged another one of the ember balls and flew back into the sky. I tried again to stand up but the pain. I rolled off the rock as it hardens. I landed on the floor next to the glowing rock, which had now stopped glowing. I concentrated on the flame on my back. As hard as I could but it just wouldn't seem to light.
"Jenda," I yelled again this time in a moan. "Run get out of here."
"No," she yelled shooting off another ember ball that missed the Fearow.
"You stupid little thing," the Fearow yelled this time shooting out some stars at Jenda it hit her HARD.
"Ahh," she yelled falling on all fours in pain.
"JENDA," I yelled.
That brought the Fearow's attention to me.
"You," he said diving towards me and picking me up with his talons.
They pierced my body and hurt just as much as the burns and broken leg.
"SMOKEY," Jenda yelled shooting off as many ember balls as she could but I was too high up.
My vision was starting to blur and I was slipping in and out of reality. I need to get the Fearow to let go of me.
"You are going to enjoy where I am going to take you," he yelled laughing at me.
"Uhh…," I moaned.
"Where you ask?" he said.
"Whaaaa…." I was losing conciseness.
"The river of course," he said laughing. " I know how all you fire things like the water.
I need to get him to let go. I turned my head up and let out a smokescreen right in his face. It was the only thing I could do. He started to cough.
"Fine then I will just drop you right here," he said letting go of me.
I fell like a rock the air whipping passed my nose, as I was tumbling head over heels. Didn't know which way was up. I hit a tree, well actually the leaves it didn't slow down my fall but then I hit a soft cushion, bounced off and landed on my head. Right before I passed out I saw the cushion I landed on it was a big Pokémon then blackness.
When I awoke I was in some kind of bed, next to some other Pokémon. I recognize some of them to be Pidgeys and Rattatas. I tried to stand up but my leg had some white thing on it, so did my head. A Pink Pokémon that looks like it had hair and was wearing a white hat with a cross said something.
"What?" I said.
"Are you okay young one?" it repeated.
"Where am I?" I asked.
"A Pokémon Center," the Pokémon said.
"What is that and who are you?" I asked.
"It is a place where humans bring the Pokémon to have healed. And I am Jansey a Chansey, Nurse Joy's assistant," the Chansey said.
"What is a Nurse Joy?" I said.
"A human of course," Jansey said.
"How did I get here?" I said.
"Nurse Joy found you while she was doing some shopping next to the Snorlax in the woods around here," she said.
"But…" I said my voice trailing off. I had wanted to leave the niche and now I was. But I didn't feel happy or excite I felt lonely.
"You need to rest dear Nurse Joy will be in to check you in a moment," Jansey said leaving me with the rest of the Pokémon.
"So who is your trainer?" a Growlithe asked.
"What, I don't have a trainer?" I said.
"Ohh you are a wild Pokémon," it said. "I guess you haven't been around much humans?"
"No I haven't," I said looking at the white things on my leg.
"Those are bandages," the Growlithe said. "I figured you had a trainer because you have some serious burns on you."
"A Fearow attacked me," I said.
"Mirror Move huh?" it said. "I hate when a bird Pokémon uses your own attack against you."
"Where am I?" I asked.
"Your in a Pokémon Center silly," the Growlithe said.
"No I mean what is this area called?" I said.
"Hal Island," the Growlithe said.
"What I have never heard of that place," I said confused.
"You were probably on an island that the humans call Fire Island," the Growlithe said continuing. "They claim that that is where the legendary fire bird Moltres hangs out."
"I have never seen any fire birds around there," I said.
"Anyways, no humans are allowed to go on the island because it is protected by law," the Growlithe said.
"But I do see some humans sometimes," I said.
"Pouches, called Team Rocket," he said.
"Team Rocket," I said.
"Yeah they steal rare and valuable Pokémon from Pokémon Trainers," he said.
"Why?" I asked.
"To sell to keep to expand their operation," the dog said.
"How far is my island from here?" I asked.
"According to my trainer a good distant," the dog said.
"I can walk there," I said.
"Yeah but what about Pokémon Trainers and the water?" the Growlithe said.
I thought about it, he was right how was I a Cyndaquil who couldn't shoot an ember ball going to make it pass all those humans who would want to capture me and get across a ocean.
"Chansey get the Pokémon for the trainer here," a soothing female voice said.
"Okay," the Chansey said.
"Growlithe your trainer is here," the Chansey said holding out a red and blue ball.
"That is a Pokéball and that means its time for me to leave bye," the Growlithe said as it disappeared into a red blur and was sucked inside the "Pokéball". I didn't like this "Pokéball" and I promise myself I would never be put inside one of those things.
"Chansey," Nurse Joy said walking to the back.
"Yes," Chansey said but of course it sounded like Chansey had say her name.
"How is the Cyndaquil I found doing?" she said walking to the bed I was sitting on.
"Who are you?" I said.
"It's a talker Chansey," Nurse Joy said. And that is when I learned humans couldn't understand Pokémon language.
"Yes he is," Chansey said.
She took a look at my head and then at my leg.
"You are also a fast healer," Nurse Joy said.
"Nurse Joy," a voice yelled.
"I will be right back with something for you to eat," Nurse Joy said getting up and walking back to the front with Chansey behind her.
"Great," I said because I was so hungry.
"Here he is," Nurse Joy said returning to the back this time with a man in a lab coat as I later learned. The man had a Butterfree with him.
"This is the Cyndaquil that you gave me the blood sample," the lab coat man said.
"Yes Professor Coy," Nurse Joy said.
"I have checked the blood sample and the results are very peculiar," the professor said.
"What do you mean peculiar," I yelled.
"Hold on he will explain," the Butterfree said.
"It seems that this Cyndaquil has…Everstone in it," the professor said after a long pause.
"What is that," I yelled.
"Boy it likes to yell a lot," the professor said.
"The food," Nurse Joy said leaving and then returning with some brown pellets.
"Go on eat it," the Butterfree said.
"What is an Everstone?" I said again.
"Okay I will explain," the Butterfree said. "An everstone prevents a Pokémon from evolving as long as the Pokémon wears it. But for some reason you have been exposed to the everstones radiation, and you have some everstone in you. So you cannot evolve ever, well not until the professor finds a cure or something."
"What?" I said surprised.
"Don't worry about it," the Butterfree said.
But how was I supposed to forget. I listen to the professor.
"But the amazing thing is if I am correct it can become as strong as a Typhlosion," the professor said.
"That is amazing…isn't it," Nurse Joy said.
"Well I have to be going," the professor said standing up and petting me on the head. "Tomorrow is the day I give four new trainers their starter Pokémon.
"Okay bye," Nurse Joy said escorting them to the front.
"See you Cyndaquil," the Butterfree said.
I spent the rest of the day resting and thinking about what the professor said.
"Once again ole Smoked can't do what everyone else does," I said to myself.
"What is wrong with you?" a Pidgey asked.
"What is wrong with me?" I said. "Very simple I can't evolve that's what ole smoked can't evolve."
For the rest of the time the Pidgey that was there it ignored me. I didn't want to be bothered with her or any other Pokémon any way.
"At least Cyn wont make fun of me," I whispered to myself.
Though I wish I was back home with my mom and my friends and the other Cyndaquils. I cried, for how long? I don't know because I fell asleep.
When I woke up the next morning Jansey was putting on a hard cast on my leg. The burns and claw marks were gone but my leg was still in a cast.
"Nurse Joy I tried to convince the kid to wait but he said it didn't matter," the professor said walking in the room with Butterfree and Chansey behind him.
"Guess what kid," the Butterfee said.
"What?" I said still a little depressed and angry at Butterfree and the professor for telling me about my condition.
"You are going to have a trainer."
"What?" I yelled.
"That is right," the Butterfree went on. "But don't worry the trainer is a good friend of the professor."
"Great," I moaned.
"And it can't be inside its Pokéball until its leg heals," Nurse Joy said explaining everything to the professor.
That's all it took and in what felt like 30 seconds I was in the hands of a kid I didn't even know.
"Don't worry Cyndaquil," the boy said. "You will be okay."
"Don't call me Cyndaquil," I yelled trying to jump out of his hands.
"Hey hold on fella your leg remember," the boy said.
"Who do you think you are?" I yelled.
And like he understood what I said he answered the question. "My name is Zane."
"Like I care," I said looking at the necklace around my neck. It was a Charcoal it was suppose to raise my fire attacks like I knew any.
"Look a Pokémon," Zane said pulling out a Pokédex.
<Pidgeotto A Bird Pokémon. > the Pokédex said. <Unlike their mild-mannered cousin, Pidgeotto are very protective of their sprawling territory. Pidgeotto will fiercely peck or claw at any intruder. You can obtain a Pidgeotto either by capturing one in the wild or by building up a Pidgey. Pidgeotto is much rarer than Pidgey. Uses stronger wind attacks such as Powerful Gust. >
"Good our first Pokémon catch," Zane said putting me down on the floor.
"What now?" I said.
"Time for use to capture a Pokémon," Zane said looking at the Pidgeotto which was eating some worms. Zane then pointed the Pokédex at me.
<Cyndaquil It is timid, and always curls itself up in a ball. If attacked, it flares up it's back for protection. It usually stays hunched over. If it is angry or surprised, it shoots flames out of it's back. >
"What is that suppose to mean I couldn't shoot a flame if my life depended on it," I said.
"Quick Cyndaquil use your Tackle attack," Zane told me.
I stood there looking at him.
"Right your leg," he said. "How about Ember?"
"How can I shoot an Ember attack if I cant even light my flame," I yelled.
"Hmm in the picture it shows your flame on so maybe you need it on to attack?" Zane pondered.
"Duh?" I said.
"Okay then power up," Zane yelled.
"I can't, I never could and never will," I said.
"What is wrong with you?" he asked.
"Like I can answer you," I said.
"Is it the fact that you can't evolve," he said.
And that did it. He made me so mad that my flame came on for the first time.
"You think because I can't evolve I am weak," I yelled.
"All right you're powered up," he yelled not understanding anything I said.
"Quick use your Flamethrower," he yelled.
"Fine," I yelled as I let out the huge stream of fire at the Pidgeotto.
"What?" the Pidgeotto said as it turned around and dodged the attack.
It flu into the air and started flapping its wings at a high speed making a big gust I tried to use another Flamethrower but the attack was blown out in the gust.
"Quick Cyndaquil use Swift," Zane yelled over the gust.
Could I do it, I had seen Jenda do it before I was separated from the others. I opened my mouth and shot out the stars they hit Pidgeotto making it drop 2 feet before regaining balance.
"Good job Cyndaquil," he yelled.
"Don't call me that," I yelled back at him.
"You were lucky that time boy," the Pidgeotto said finally speaking. "But lets see how you like my Quick Attack.
When I heard this I let out a Flamethrower attack but the Pidgeotto seem to disappear and reappear right in front of me. No time to react she hit me full speed. I did a back flip and landed on my feet, which hurt because my back leg was still hurt.
"Cyndaquil use Smokescreen," Zane yelled.
I let out the black smoke that confused the Pidgeotto.
"Ha you think that will work," the Pidgeotto said letting out another gust attack that got rid of the smoke. But Zane had thrown a Pokéball. It hit Pidgeotto sucking it inside. The Pokéball started to shake like Pidgeotto was fighting the Pokéball then it stop.
"Yeah I captured Pidgeotto," Zane yelled happily.
"I don't see what is the big idea," I said lying down.
"You were amazing Cyndaquil," Zane said picking me up in the air and twirling around with me.
"Stop already," I said.
"Lets go," he said putting me against his chest and cradling me then… "OWWWW"
"Sorry," I said laughing and extinguishing my flame.
"Boy, I wish I could understand what you were saying," he said.
"Yeah me too," I said.
"Well…we have to head to over to K.T Canyon that is where the first gym is around here," Zane said.
I didn't understand what a gym was but he seem to like know what I was think because…
"A gym leader is a person who had a badge it is usually given to a trainer when they defeat his or her Pokémon," Zane continued. "When a Pokémon Trainer collects the required amount of badges for that particular league he can enter what ever competition they have and become a champion," he said.
"That sounds interesting," I said.
"Right I guess we should take a break from all this walking," he said.
I don't know why I keep talking to him like he could understand but I guess I needed someone to talk to.
"This looks like a good spot," he said stopping in front of a stream. He put me down on the ground not too close to the water and released his new Pidgeotto.
"What is it," the Pokémon said coming out of her Pokéball.
"Nice to meet you Pidgeotto," he said.
"Nice to meet you too," she said.
"My name is Zane and this is Cyndaquil," Zane said.
"Hi," was all I could muster to say.
"You are pretty strong for a Pokémon with a hurt leg," the Pidgeotto said.
"You too," I said.
"I guess you two can get to know each other," Zane said. "I am going to see if I can find any fruits around here," he got up and left looking for some fruits.
Pidgeotto and I talked for a long time I explained everything about me even my nickname and my family. And she told me about his mom and how as soon as Pidgeys learn how to fly they leave the nest.
Zane showed up 10 minutes later with some apples. We sat there and ate and talked. Well actually Pidgeotto and I talked and Zane looked like we were speaking a weird language.
"Okay guys we have to keep moving," he said calling Pidgeotto back into her Pokéball.
"Ready to go?" he asked.
"Yes," I said.
He picked me up and started walking again until it was night.
"Okay we should make camp right," he said.
"Yeah I think so," I said.
"Okay I will get some fire wood you wait here," he said taking off into some bushes.
"Great I am here all by myself while he is off look for fire wood," I said.
I stood there until he returned with his hands full of wood.
"Okay," he said after he had set up the wood.
"What?" I said.
"Aren't you going to light it," he said.
"Okay," I said lighting the wood on fire.
"Now it is time to go to sleep," he said pulling out a sleeping bag.
"And where am I suppose to sleep?" I asked as if it would make a difference.
He crawled into his sleeping bag which had a lot of Cyndaquil drawn on it.
"Come on in," he said. "As long as you don't burn me."
"As long as you don't act stupid," I said as I crawled in the sleeping bag. "As you can see I always like Cyndaquils," he said grinning.
"So do I," I said.
I think I fell asleep first because man can he snore. After trying to fall asleep I ended up wiggling my way out of the sleeping bag and on top of a log where I spent the rest of the night watching the stars.
