Keith asked.</div> <div> "I don't know," Jewel said.</div> <div> "Maybe the gym leader is so tough that a lot of trainer lost to him or her," I said.</div> <div> "No actually it's the Pokémart Tournament," a girl said who had overheard what we were talking about.</div> <div> "I didn't know Pokémarts held tournaments," Keith said.</div> <div> "Not usually but this year is the first year that the biggest Pokémart in Kanto is holding it," the girl said, "and the prize is this," she said handing us a picture of a Pokémon.</div> <div> "A Smoochum?" Keith said.</div> <div> "Smoochum?" I questioned as I took out my Pokédex.</div> <div> {Smoochum the pre-evolve form of Jynx.  Its lips are the most sensitive parts on its body. It always uses its lips first to examine things. It always rocks its head slowly backwards and forwards as if it is trying to kiss someone}</div> <div> "Its so cute," Jewel said.</div> <div> "Well I'm entering this tournament and winning that Pokémon!" I said.</div> <div> "You can't enter the tournament," the girl said.</div> <div> "Why not?" I asked.</div> <div> "Its open to girls only," she said.</div> <div> "Lania bring your Pokémon for examination," Nurse Joy said.</div> <div> "Okay," the girl said, "I have to go now," she left and followed Nurse Joy.</div> <div> "Man that sucks," I said.</div> <div> "Well its time for my break out match!" Jewel said striking a pose.</div> <div> "What are you talking about?" Keith asked.</div> <div> "I'm entering that tournament and winning it!" she said.</div> <div> "You only have 2 Pokémon," I said.</div> <div> "Oh," Jewel said a little disappointed, "wait I can borrow some of your Pokémon!"</div> <div> "But you've never trained them," I said.</div> <div> "So all you have to do is tell them to listen to me I'm sure they will," she took Rita off my shoulders, "you will help me, right Rita?"</div> <div> "Chika!" she said shaking her head yes.</div> <div> It took a while but we finally gave our Pokémon to Nurse Joy to examine, I keep Phanpy Pokéball and told the others I was going to look around the city.  I found a nice calm meadow a few miles a way from the city.</div> <div> "Okay go Phanpy!" I said throwing the Pokéball.</div> <div>  "Phan," the Pokémon said coming out of its Pokéball.</div> <div> "Hi Phanpy," I said slowly walking up to the Pokémon and extending my hand.  It shook its trunk and hit my hand away.</div> <div> "PHAN!" the Pokémon said.</div> <div> "Come on," I said this time walking a little slower than before.  It had the same effect.  "Phanpy I'm not going to hurt you," I said in a calm voice, "I'm not like those other humans who abused you," I reached into my pocket and pulled out a big cookie, "Here," I walked up to the Pokémon and tried to hand it the cookie, it slowly backed away.</div> <div> "Phan, Phan, Phanpy!" it yelled.</div> <div> "Okay okay," I said laying it down on the ground, I slowly backed away.  The Pokémon looked at me then the cookie; it slowly walked up to the cookie and started eating it.  While it wasn't looking I slowly walked up to the Pokémon and petted it on the head. At first it was frightened and tried to run off but I kept petting and it got calmer and calmer.</div> <div> "Phan?" the Pokémon said.</div> <div> "I'm nice," I said, I then reached into another pocket and pulled out a small bottle, I picked up Phanpy and started feeding it from the bottle.</div> <div> I stayed in the meadow for a good five minutes waiting for Phanpy to finish the bottle, when it was done I put the bottle away, "lets head back to the center." I said.</div> <div> We reached the center and Jewel was standing there a little impatient, "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!" she yelled.</div> <div> "Shhhuuu!" I signaled to Phanpy who was asleep.</div> <div> "Oh, I didn't know," she said, I handed Phanpy to Keith.</div> <div> "Ready for the tournament?" I asked.</div> <div> "Yeah," she took out her two Pokéballs, and released her Pokémon.</div> <div> "Eevee."</div> <div> "Hya."</div> <div> "Keith is lending me his Butterfree," Jewel said.</div> <div> "Free," the Pokémon said it was standing on Keith's head.</div> <div> "You better take good care of Butterfree he's my first bug Pokémon," Keith said.</div> <div> "Chika!" Rita said appearing out of the Pokémon Center.</div> <div> "You can use Rita for your match," I said, "you will help Jewel wont you Rita?"</div> <div> "Chika," it said nodding its head.</div> <div> "Okay," Jewel said, "let head over to the Pokémart," Jewel said signaling use to follow her.</div> <div> We found the registration booth and quickly got Jewel registered for the tournament.  They had set up a battlefield and a bunch of benches around it.  Keith and I quickly found some seats and got ready for the matches.</div> <div> <B>Round One</B></div> <div> "First match," the referee said, "is between Jewel and Melissa."</div> <div> "Melissa?" I said.</div> <div> Jewel walked out and took a position on one side of the field.</div> <div> "Prepare for trouble cause I'm in this fight."</div> <div> "Make it double cause she can bite."</div> <div> "Melissa."</div> <div> "Matthew."</div> <div> "Team Rocket trying to win a Smoochum to please our boss."</div> <div> "He is mean and we need to win at all cost."</div> <div> "That's Right!"</div> <div> "What Team Rocket!" I said surprised.</div> <div> "That's right," Melissa said.</div> <div> "We decided to enter the tournament to win a Smoochum," Matthew said, "so let-"</div> <div> "LEAVE THE FIELD NOW!" the ref yelled at Matthew.</div> <div> "Ahh," he ran and jumped into the stands sitting next to Keith.</div> <div> "Let the match begin!" the ref yelled.</div> <div> "Okay then choose your Pokémon Melissa," Jewel yelled.</div> <div> "Go!" Melissa said throwing a Pokéball.</div> <div> "Growlithe," the Pokémon barked.</div> <div> "Go Staryu!" Jewel said.</div> <div> "Good choice," Keith said.</div> <div> "Growly Ember!" Melissa yelled.</div> <div> "Staryu dodge it then use Water Gun!"</div> <div> Growly released it attacked at Staryu who easily dodged the attack and released the water gun, which hit the Pokémon and sent it flying back.</div> <div> "Quick Growly use Take Down!"</div> <div> "Staryu Rapid Spin!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> Staryu started spinning towards Growly as the Pokémon started charging it, Growly's attack overpowered Staryu sending the Pokémon flying backwards, it regained its composure and released a Thunderbolt attack, it hit Growly and sent it flying back into its trainer.</div> <div> "One…two…" the ref counted, Growly slowly stood back up, "Continue."</div> <div> "Ha Melissa is going to win!" Matthew said.</div> <div> "Yeah right," Keith said.</div> <div> "Growly use Sunny Day then FlameThrower!"</div> <div> "Quick stop it with a Water Gun."</div> <div> The water attack hit Growly but it didn't stop it from using Sunny Day, it then went to work opening its mouth to use Flamethrower.</div> <div> "Flash!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> The jewel glowed bright blinding Growly, "Now Water Gun again!" she yelled, the attack connected knocking out Growly.</div> <div> "One…two…three!  Match over winner Jewel!" the referee said.</div> <div> "What…" Matthew said surprised.</div> <div> "Return," Melissa said calling back her Pokémon, Matthew jumped back onto the field and ran up to Melissa, "let's split!" they ran off together.</div> <div> <B>Round Two</B></div> <div> "A lot of people have been eliminated," I said.</div> <div> "Yeah," Keith said, "but both Lania and Jewel made it to the second round."</div> <div> "This round will be fought with two Pokémon," the ref said, "battlers enter the field," Jewel and a local girl named Olga walked out, "begin!"</div> <div> "Go Eevee!" Jewel said choosing her Pokémon.</div> <div> "Go Tangla!" Olga said choosing her Pokémon.</div> <div> "Eevee Quick Attack!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> "Tangla Constrict!" Olga yelled.</div> <div> Eevee hit Tangla and was about to run away when Tangla grabbed it with its vines and started squeezing the life out of it.</div> <div> "Vee!" the Pokémon yelled in pain.</div> <div> "Slam it!" Olga yelled.</div> <div> Tangla spun Eevee in the air once before slamming it on the ground.</div> <div> "One…two…" the ref started to count, the Pokémon slowly got back up.</div> <div> "Eevee try a Bite attack!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> "Tangla get out of the way," Olga yelled.</div> <div> Eevee tried to bite Tangla but the Pokémon jumped into the air, instead Eevee bit into some of the vines causing it to fall down.</div> <div> "Quick use Tail Whip!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> "Tail Whip?" Keith said.</div> <div> "That's a weird attack to pick," I said.</div> <div> Eevee smacked Tangla in the eyes with its tail, the Pokémon yelled out in pain.</div> <div> "Tangla try a Stun Spore!" Olga yelled.</div> <div> "Stop it with Shadow Ball!" Jewel quickly yelled.</div> <div> Eevee jumped backwards and released the attack hitting Tangla and sending up a ton of dirt, when the dirt finally settled Tangla wasn't moving.</div> <div> "One…two…three, Tangla is out of the match," the ref said.</div> <div> "Darn," Olga said calling back the Pokémon, she carefully chose the next Pokéball and threw it on the field.</div> <div> "Heracross!" the Pokémon said.</div> <div> "A bug Pokémon?" Jewel said looking at the Pokémon confusedly.</div> <div> "I like Heracrosses they're my favorite Pokémon," Olga said.</div> <div> "Be careful Jewel Heracross can be real strong at close range!" I warned.</div> <div> "Right," Jewel said taking out her Pokéball, "return Eevee!" she called it back, and then pointed.  "Go Butterfree!"</div> <div> "Free!" the Pokémon said flying onto the field.</div> <div> "Heracross Horn Attack!" Olga yelled.</div> <div> "Don't let it get close use Confusion!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> Heracross started flying towards Butterfree to use its Horn Attack when it stopped and flew towards it trainer.</div> <div> "Ahh!" Olga said jumping out of the way, "snap out of it!" she yelled.</div> <div> "Hera?" the Pokémon said snapping out of its trance.</div> <div> "Look out!" Olga yelled, but it was too late Butterfree came down with a Tackle attack knocking down Heracross.</div> <div> "Use Tackle again!"</div> <div> "Heracross quick use Reversal!"</div> <div> Butterfree connected with the Tackle but Heracross reversed it and slammed Butterfree on the ground.</div> <div> "One…two…thr-" the ref stopped as Butterfree slowly got up; I looked at Keith who had his hand in a fist.</div> <div> "Butterfree," Jewel said, "can you can still battle?"</div> <div> "Free," it said shaking its head yes.</div> <div> "Heracross finish it off with Fury Attack!" the girl yelled.</div> <div> "Stop Heracross with a Gust attack!"</div> <div> Heracross attack almost hit Butterfree but the Pokémon used Gust blowing it back.</div> <div> "Sleep Powder!" Jewel ordered, Butterfree flapped its wings and released the blue powder that floated over to Heracross, who instantly fell asleep.</div> <div> "One…two…three!  Match over winner Jewel!" the referee said.</div> <bR> <div> "Jewel that match was a close one," Keith said.</div> <div> There was a 30-minute rest time for those trainers who had made it half way there.</div> <div> "I know," she said, "I wish I could borrow some more Pokémon but whatever Pokémon I registered with is the Pokémon I have to use throughout the whole tournament."</div> <div> "Jewel, your Pokémon are fully healed," Nurse Joy said appearing with the 4 Pokéballs.</div> <div> "Thanks," Jewel said taking them.</div> <div> "Well we better head back to the Pokémart," I said.</div> <div> <B>Round Three</B></div> <div> "Okay then I choose you Rita!" Jewel said throwing Rita's Pokéball on the field.</div> <div> "Chika!" the Pokémon said ready for battle.</div> <div> "Squirtle Water Gun!" Penny yelled.</div> <div> "Rita use Razor Leaf!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> Rita released a flurry of leafs which was stopped by the Water Gun.</div> <div> "Squirtle Tackle!"</div> <div> "Rita Vine Whip!"</div> <div> Squirtle ran up to Rita and knocked it back, Rita retaliated by shooting out her vines and whipping Squirtle.</div> <div> "WithDrawel!" Penny yelled.</div> <div> "Squirt," the Pokémon said hiding in its shell.</div> <div> "Rita use HeadButt!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> "That won't work," Penny said, as Rita hit the shell sending it flying.</div> <div> "Now hit it with a Razor Leaf attack!" </div> <div> Rita released the leafs right as Squirtle stuck its head out of its shell to see what was going on, it fell to the ground and didn't move.</div> <div> "One…two…three, Squirtle is out of the match," the ref said.</div> <div> "Return Squirtle," Penny said recalling her Pokémon.</div> <div> "Way to go Rita!" Jewel said.</div> <div> "Chika," the Pokémon said not moving waiting for its next opponent.</div> <div> "Go Krabby!" she yelled throwing the Pokéball.</div> <div> "By," the Pokémon said.</div> <div> "Are all your Pokémon water types?" Jewel asked.</div> <div> "Yeah," Penny said embarrassed.</div> <div> "Okay then," Jewel said, "Rita Vine Whip!"</div> <div> "Grab those vines then use Vice Grip!" Penny yelled.</div> <div> Rita smacked Krabby with the first vine and was about to smack it with the other when Krabby grabbed the vine and squeezed it.  Rita yelled out in pain then used its other vine and knocked Krabby so hard that the Pokémon let go of the vine, then before Penny could even send out an order Rita Headbutted Krabby knocking the Pokémon out.</div> <div> "One…two…three, Krabby is out of the match," the ref said.</div> <div> "Alright Rita, way to win 2 in a row!" Jewel said.</div> <div> "Rita," the Pokémon said shaking its hurt vine.</div> <div> "Finally Pokémon," Penny said, "Go!" she yelled throwing the Pokéball.</div> <div> "Seel," the Pokémon said smacking its flippers together.</div> <div> "Alright Rita use Razor Leaf!"</div> <div> "Seel look out!" Penny yelled.</div> <div> Rita leafs flew towards Seel who just took the hit.</div> <div> "A fish out of sea," Jewel said shaking her head.</div> <div> "Chika!" the Pokémon said shooting out more leafs.</div> <div> "Ice Beam!" Penny yelled.</div> <div> "SEEL!" the Pokémon said shooting out the beam of ice from its horn, it froze the leafs.</div> <div> "Woah," Keith said.</div> <div> "Jewel watches out grass types are weak to ice attacks!" I yelled.</div> <div> "Right, Rita use Sweet Scent!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> "Chika," the Pokémon said waving its leaf around and released the pink cloud of dust, Seel was mesmerized by the scent.</div> <div> "Now Headbutt it!" Jewel yelled, Rita ran up and Headbutted the Pokémon which didn't get up.</div> <div> "One…two…three!  Match over winner Jewel," the ref said.</div> <div> "Alright!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> <B>Round Four</B></div> <div> Jewel stood on one side of the field on the other side was Lania, they were the last two trainer left.</div> <div> "I hate to disappoint you Jewel but that cute Smoochum is as good as mine," Lania said.</div> <div> "We will see at the end of this battle," Jewel said.</div> <div> "This is going to be a good match," Keith said.</div> <div> "Yeah, they both get to use 4 Pokémon," I said.</div> <div> "I will start off with Eevee!" Jewel said throwing the Pokéball.</div> <div> "Vee," the Pokémon said.</div> <div> "Then go Machop!" Lania said throwing her Pokéball.</div> <div> "Chop," the Pokémon said flexing a muscle.</div> <div> "Eevee Quick Attack!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> "Machop Low Kick!" she yelled.</div> <div> Eevee ran so fast that it was a big brown blur, it hit Machop and quickly turned around, but instead of running away it did a Tail Whip smacking the Pokémon in the face, Machop yelled in pain and covered its eyes.</div> <div> "Okay Eevee Shadow Ball!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> "Listen Machop jump when I tell you!" Lania yelled.</div> <div> Eevee released the huge ball at Machop.</div> <div> "Jump!" Lania said right as the ball was about to hit it.</div> <div> "She's a good trainer," Keith said.</div> <div> "Yeah, she knew that her Machop would probably not be able to see after that Tail Whip so she told it when to jump."</div> <div> "Eevee Mud Slap!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> Eevee grabbed a hand full of mud in its paw and went to throw it in Machop face, but the Pokémon quickly saw what was happening and tripped Eevee, it then picked it up and did a Seismic Toss, smashing the Pokémon on the ground.</div> <div> "One…two…three, Eevee is out of the match," the ref said.</div> <div> "Ahh, Eevee return!" Jewel said calling back the Pokémon.</div> <div> "Jewel think about your next Pokémon," I yelled.</div> <div> "Right," Jewel said choosing her next Pokémon and throwing its Pokéball on the field.</div> <div> "Hya!" the Pokémon yelled.</div> <div> "Staryu Water Gun!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> The Pokémon released the attack; it connected with Machop and sent the Pokémon flying.  It slowly got back on its feet.</div> <div> "Yes," I said.</div> <div> "Now Rapid Spin it!"</div> <div> "Quick use Karate Chop!" Lania yelled.  Her Pokémon spun around and chopped the air connecting with Staryu.  It smashed its jewel.</div> <div> "Oh no!" Jewel said.</div> <div> "One…two…three, Staryu is out of the match," the ref said.</div> <div> "That is one strong Machop," Keith said.</div> <div> "Two down two to go," Lania said.</div> <div> "Fine then!" Jewel said taking out a Pokéball and throwing it.</div> <div> "Free!" the Pokémon yelled.</div> <div> "Use Stun Spore!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> "Free," the Pokémon said flapping its wings and releasing the golden color spores.</div> <div> "Look out Machop!" Lania yelled, but it was too late the Pokémon was surrounded in the cloud of spores and couldn't move.</div> <div> "Finish it off with Psybeam!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> "FREE!" the Pokémon said shooting out the colorful beam that hit Machop knocking the Pokémon out.</div> <div> "One…two…three, Machop is out of the match," the ref said.</div> <div> "Return," Lania said recalling the Pokémon.</div> <div> "Good job Butterfree," Jewel said.</div> <div> "Don't celebrate just yet," Lania said choosing her next Pokéball, she threw it on the field.</div> <div> "Drill!" the Pokémon yelled.</div> <div> "A Beedrill?" Jewel said.</div> <div> "Right," Lania said, "there faster than a Butterfree.  Now Beedrill attack with Poison Sting!"</div> <div> "Dodge the stingers Butterfree!" Jewel yelled.</div> <div> Butterfree flew out of the way of the stingers, "use Twin Needle Beedrill!"</div> <div> "Butterfree dodge it then use Psybeam!"
