Chapter 2 A Bugtastic Problem
"Okay so how do I know if I am in the Viridian Forest," I said.
^A sign might help^ Chika said.
Thanks to Team Rocket all of us we to tired to leave in the morning so it was noon and we had just entered the Viridian Forest. I think that is because we couldn't find the sign that said we had entered the Viridian Forest.
^I guess we should keep walking on^ Chika said.
She was my first Pokémon. We are the best of friends and I owe that to my best human friend Karl.
"Too bad Karl isn't here," I said.
^Shouldn't we be worrying about the road up ahead^ Chika said.
"Yeah but we should know if we are in the Viridian Forest because we will run into a lot of Bug Pokémon and Bug Trainers.
I was itching for a Pokémon battle I have never had a official battle.
^So you think we will win our first badge^ Chika said.
"Of course we will," I said.
^I mean do you know who you are going to use^ Chika said.
"I should plan ahead your saying?" I asked.
^The more you know about your opponent the better^ Chika said.
"Since when did you become a teacher," I said.
^I use to hang out with the professor remember^ she said.
"Right," I said.
I had forgotten.
"Let me see," I said pulling my Pokédex out of my pocket. "Pewter City gym leader and type of Pokémon used.
<The Pewter City's Original gym leader Brock left so the replacement gym leader is one of his sisters Kim. She uses the same type of Pokémon as Brock did rock types. Grass and Water Pokémon are very strong against this type of Pokémon. >
"Good I know just who to use," I said pulling out Bubbles Pokéball. "When we get to Pewter City I will use Bubbles and you Chika."
^See what planning ahead can do^ she said.
"Well I guess you are right," I said. "I wonder if Karl plans ahead."
^It doesn't look like that, he probably wings it^ Chika said.
"Does that work?" I asked.
^Who knows^ she said.
"Excuse me," a boy wearing a straw hat on his head said.
"Yes," I said turning around.
"I would like to challenge you to a Pokémon match," the boy said.
"Okay how many Pokémon are we going to use?" I said pulling out my Pokéball with Shadow in it.
"One on One," he said.
"Okay but before we start," I said. "Are we in the Viridian Forest?"
"Yes but on the border," he said.
"Okay lets start," I said throwing Shadows Pokéball.
"Veno nat," my Pokémon said.
"Go," the boy said throwing his Pokéball.
"Pi," said the Pokémon.
I pulled out my Pokédex and pointed it at the worm Pokémon.
<Caterpie Its short feet are tipped with suction pads that enable it to tirelessly climb slopes and walls. >
"Shadow use Tackle attack," I yelled.
"Caterpie use your String Shot," the boy said to his pokemon.
"Shadow use your Disable," I said.
The Caterpie tried to shot its Stick strings on Shadow but its disable attack stopped the attack from working.
"Caterpie tackle," he quickly yelled to his Pokémon.
"Okay Shadow use your tackle attack too," I said to my Pokémon.
The two Pokémon hit straight on but Shadow was a lot stronger overpowering the Caterpie tackle.
"Finish it off with a Psybeam," I quickly yelled.
"Veno," yelled my bug Pokémon.
It shot out from it eyes a multicolored beam hitting Caterpie knocking it out.
"Well I guess I lose," the boy said calling back hit fainted Caterpie.
"Good job Shadow," I said congratulating my Pokémon.
"If you continue down this path you will get out of the Viridian Forest," the kid said. "I have to go now bye."
"Bye," I said as the kid walked in the other direction back towards Viridian City.
I turned on my translator.
^Great battle Shadow^ Chika said.
"Yeah you surprised me I didn't realize how strong you were," I said.
^Thanks^ It said.
"Okay we need to find something to eat," I said looking at my two Pokémon.
We ended up at a stream that was a little way off the path but we need a place to rest. Bubbles were in the water swimming, Shadow was in a big tree exploring, and Chika was washing herself in the stream.
"Okay lets eat," I said pulling out a pack of Pokéfood.
All my Pokémon came running up to me and all pounced on me and started to eat all the Pokéfood.
"Maybe I should have bought some more Pokéfood," I said as they finished their food.
I pulled out a Sandwich my mom had packed for me before I left. It was a PB and J.
"So before I got in the battle with that bug catcher Chika and I were discussing what Pokémon I should use against the gym leader Kim.
^Yeah she uses Rock Types^ Chika said.
"So we decided that you Bubbles and Chika should take this gym leader on."
^Hey what about me^ Shadow said.
"I didn't forget about you but Grass and Water types have the biggest type advantage against Rock Pokémon," I pointed out.
^Okay I was just testing you^ Shadow said.
"In the meantime we haven't caught any new Pokémon since we got into the forest," I said.
^I guess you have bad luck with Pokémon Catching^ Chika said.
"I don't, I said. "Look at all the Pokémon I got."
^Chris^ Bubbles said. ^I always here you talk about this Karl person. Is he your best friend? ^
"Yes he is," I said. "If is wasn't for him I wouldn't have been allowed to Pokémon train, I wouldn't have gotten Chika as my first Pokémon and I wouldn't have caught you two."
^He is real nice^ Bubbles said.
^I hope we meet him^ Shadow said.
^He is on a Chain of Island called the Platinum Island^ Chika said.
^Look over there^ Shadow said looking across the lake.
"Who is that?" I said Venonat have radar eyes but I don't.
^It is that trainer with the Caterpie^ Shadow said.
"So?" I said.
^So a hold bunch of bug Pokémon are attacking him^ Shadow said.
"What?" I yelled.
^Swarms of Beedrill are chasing him^ he said.
^We have to help him^ Chika said.
"How deep is the stream?" I said to Bubbles.
"Not deep but it has a lot of Qwilfish are in the stream.
"Qwilfish?" I said pulling out my Pokédex.
<Qwilfish All of its body's poison needles fly out when it drinks 10 liters of water in one breath and swells. >
"I don't think it is a good idea to pass through the stream, I said picturing myself getting pricked by the quills on Qwilfish.
^Yeah how about going around the stream^ Chika said.
I pulled out the map there was a bridge about a half a mile from where we were.
"Yeah it would be better if we went around, I said. "It would be best if you were in your Pokéballs.
^Okay^ Shadow said as it disappeared into his Pokéball.
^See you later^ Bubbles said to Chika as she disappeared into her Pokéball.
"Lets go," l yelled running in the direction where the bridge was.
I ran full speed with Chika right by my side. The whole trip to the bridge and across would take about 10 minutes. I wasn't very good at running the mile in gym but that poor kid was in trouble.
^Where is he? ^ Chika asked looking ahead to see the area where the kid was he was missing.
"He must have gotten away," I said.
^Yeah but I don't think the Beedrills would let him off that easily^ Chika said.
"Yeah, we better go after him," I said.
"The only way you are going," a familiar voice said.
"Is if you get past use," the other very familiar voice said.
^Wait a minute I know that voice it is^ Chika said.
"TEAM ROCKET," I screamed as they appeared out of two trees.
"Melissa," she said.
"Matthew," he said.
"Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light," Melissa said.
"Were the best so prepare to fight," Matthew said.
"Were the best that's right," they said together.
"What do you want?" I said looking at them.
"What do we want?" Matthew said laughing.
"What we want is to defeat you and kill you at your own game," Melissa said.
"What game?" I said.
"Why Pokémon Battling of course," Matthew said.
"Chika," said my Pokémon getting ready for battle.
"How many Pokémon?"
"OH, how about 2," Matthew said.
"Okay!" I said pulling out a Pokéball.
"Go Primeape," Matthew yelled as he threw his Pokéball.
"Primmmeape," yelled the Pokémon.
"Go Bubbles," I yelled as I threw Marrils Pokéball.
"Ma Ma Marril," the water mouse said.
"Marril use your Water Gun attack," I yelled.
"Primeape use Take Down," I heard Matthew yell.
My Pokémon squirted out a nice long stream of water gun at Primeape but it didn't seem to slow him down. Primeape hit Bubbles head on she flue into a tree.
"Bubbles," I yelled.
"Primeape finish it off with a Hyperbeam," Matthew yelled.
"Bubbles look out," was all I could yell as the Hyperbeam attack went right for Bubbles. It caused a big explosion and a lot of smoke when it cleared Bubbles had dodged the attack it had his the tree.
"Time for Pokémon number 2," Melissa said.
Her Pokéball landed on the ground and an Arcanine popped out.
"What I thought you said two Pokémon!" I yelled.
"Right can't you count…one…two…" she said counting the Pokémon slowly.
Great that isn't fair you can only use one Pokémon at a time it is in the Indigo Pokémon Rules Book. But if they wanted to play like that then I could too.
I look down at Chika. "Okay then you want to play that way," I said.
"Chika."
"Chika go!" I said.
"Mar Marril."
"Chika Chik Chika."
"Ha a bunch of baby Pokémon," Melissa said.
"Yeah go guys," Matthew said.
"Prime Prime Primeape."
"ARCANINE."
"Togther use your Take Down," I quickly told my Pokémon.
"Oh yeah let see them beat our Hyperbeams," Matthew yelled.
My Pokémon hit both of Team Rocket Pokémon. The Rockets Pokémon started to charge up their Hyperbeam attack.
"Chika, Bubbles use your Reflect," I yelled.
"Ha that won't work," Matthew said.
I looked at Primeape and Arcanine shot out the Hyperbeam attack aimed straight for Chika and Bubbles. The two Hyperbeams hit the two Reflect shields.
"CHIKA," yelled Chika as it tried to hold its shield.
"MA MARRIL," yelled Bubbles as it also struggled to keep its shield active.
Great in about 30 seconds the shield is going to break and both Chika and Bubbles are going to get hurt. Then I saw it the tree that Primeape had hit with Hyperbeam earlier. It was right behind Chika and Bubbles.
"Chika, Bubbles deactivate your shields and dodge out of the way," I yelled.
"Chika Chik," yelled Chika as she moved and Bubbles moved out of the way and dodged the attack. The two beams hit the tree and cause it to break and start to fall towards Team Rockets Pokémon.
"Move out of the way," I heard one of them yelled, but there Pokémon were tired from the Hyperbeam attack and the tree landed on top of them pinning them to the ground and knocking them out.
"What?" Melissa said.
"Ha I guess you lose," I yelled to them.
"Return," they said as there Pokémon disappeared into their Pokéballs.
They took off running away from me.
"You may have won this round but we will be back," one of them said.
"Chika."
"Ma Marril," they said in celebration.
I turned on my translator.
^Whoa I didn't think we where going to beat them^ Bubbles said.
"When you got a great trainer like me you don't have to worry about beating them I will help," I said.
^Yeah but we forgot about something^ Chika said. ^The boy and the Beedrill^
I had forgotten about that.
"Man I hope he is okay," I said.
^I hear something^ Bubbles said.
^What does it sound like^ Chika said.
^A swarm of Beedrills and a kid screaming^ Bubbles said.
"I see them," I said.
"RUN," the kid yelled.
^We don't run^ Chika said.
^Uhhh^ Bubbles said.
"Let get'em," I yelled. "Bubbles Ice Beam all the ones in front, Chika use your Razor Leaf to hit all the Pin Missiles away from the kid."
^Okay^ they said.
"Pokéball go!" I threw Shadows Pokéball on the ground.
"Veno nat" the Pokémon said.
"Okay attack the rest of the Beedrills with a dust cloud of Sleep Powder," I quickly directed all my Pokémon as they started to attack. Bubbles freeze some of the Beedrills Chika's Razor Leafs blocked the Pin Missile attack aimed at the kid. The Beedrills that hadn't decided to run were put to sleep by Shadow.
About 10 minutes later…
"Okay I transported Beedrill to Professor Albert," I said looking up from my Pokédex.
"Thanks," the kid said.
"How come all those Beedrill were after you?" I asked.
"I was trying to capture a Butterfree and I wasn't watching where I was going I fell into a Beedrill nest they attacked me," he said.
^Boy that was some adventure^ Chika said.
"Yeah but I still didn't capture that Butterfree," the kid said.
"Ha I caught a Beedrill," I said.
^We saw^ Chika said.
"No you don't know I didn't mean to," I said.
I already had a bug Pokémon so I decided to send Beedrill to Professor Albert and keep Shadow I needed a well-rounded team.
"I have to go my mom will be worried sick," the kid said.
"Bye," I said as he ran off back towards Viridian City.
"We better get going if we are going to reach Pewter City," I said to Chika.
^Okay lets get moving^ she said as we took off towards new adventure.
