Chapter 13 A Dark Rescue
"The Pokémon Center is dead ahead," Keith said pointing to the center as it appeared in the horizon.
"I could have told you that," Jewel said.
"But I said it first," Keith pointed out.
"Yeah but-"
^Could you two stop already! ^ Chikorita said.
"I must agree all you two do is argue," I said.
"She started it," Keith said.
"NO you did!"
"No I didn't you did!"
^Stop!!!! ^Chikorita yelled.
"This is going to be a long day," I said to myself.
We reached the Pokémon Center to find someone that I really didn't want to see.
"Hey loser!" Kyle said as we entered the Pokémon Center.
"Kyle!" I said.
"Yeah, when I went to Vermillion City gym they said some kid with a Chikorita won a badge," he said.
"Yeah so?" I said.
"So I figured I would run into you here," he said. "I challenge you to a battle!"
"Your on!" I said.
"Guys…" Keith said tapping me on the shoulder.
"What?!"
"Where is Nurse Joy?" he said.
"She isn't here," Kyle said.
"Where is she?" Jewel asked.
"She left a note saying she was going to go into the cave to treat some of the wild Pokémon that trainers battle but leave," he said. "Now where were we…battle time!"
We headed out of the Pokémon Center and found a good place to battle. The cave was right behind me.
"2 on 2," Kyle said. "The loser gives up one of their Pokémon."
"What?!"
"Are you going to back out?" he said.
"No," I said. I didn't want to lose one of my Pokémon but…
"I choose you!" Kyle yelled throwing his first Pokéball.
"Raticate," his Pokémon said.
"I would like you to meet the Rattata that you saved," he said.
"Raticate," I said pulling out my Pokédex.
<Raticate A Rat Pokémon. The evolution from Rattata to Raticate is a very good one. It is twice as large as Rattata and its bite and claw are more ferocious. New powerful attacks like Super Fang will prove useful. It uses its whiskers to maintain its balance. It apparently slows down when they are cut off. The Hyper Fang technique that Rattata and Raticate share scares the enemy so much that it's afraid to fight back. >
"Fine then," I said pulling out Bubbles Pokéball and throwing it.
"Marril," my Pokémon yelled coming out of its Pokéball.
"Raticate Tackle it!"
"Bubbles Water Gun!"
Bubbles acted fast shooting a stream of water at Raticate knocking the Pokémon back as it tried to tackle Bubbles.
"Quick Attack!" Kyle yelled.
His Pokémon landed on the ground and launched itself at Bubbles hitting it.
"Bubbles try an Ice Beam Attack!" I yelled.
"Marril," she yelled shooting an Ice Beam Attack at Raticate the Pokémon dodged the attack and bit Bubbles.
"Bubbles return," I said calling back my Pokémon.
"One down one to go," Kyle said with a smile on his face.
"Go!" I yelled throwing Rhy's Pokéball.
"Rhy!!" my Pokémon yelled.
"Raticate Tackle attack!" Kyle yelled.
"Rhy use Take Down!" I yelled.
The two Pokémon hit head on bouncing off each other.
"Earthquake!" I yelled.
Rhy started to stomp its feet on the floor as hard as it could, shaking the ground and throwing Raticate off balance.
"Okay stop," I said.
"Rhy," my Pokémon said stopping but the earthquake still continued.
"Look!" Jewel yelled pointing to the cave all the rock in the cave pilled up blocking the cave entrance.
"Cave-in!" Keith yelled.
When the earthquake and cave-in stop…
"Lets continue," Kyle said.
"Wait guys Nurse Joy is still inside the cave!" Keith said.
"Oh my," Jewel said.
I think it took a while for what happen to hit Kyle cause he didn't say anything for a good 10 seconds…
"Kyle," I said waving my hand in front of him.
"There a radio inside," he said calling back his Pokémon.
"Right," I said then stopped. "Rhy try to break those rock with your Horn Drill!"
"RHYYY!!!" my Pokémon yelled as it went to work on making a new entrance for the cave.
We ran inside the Pokémon Center and Kyle picked up the radio.
"Nurse Joy are you there?" he yelled into the radio.
There was a pause.
"NURSE JOY!" he yelled again.
Another pause with no answer.
"Guys," Keith said. "I'm going to call officer Jenny," he ran off to where the vidphones where.
"This…is…Joy," the radio said faintly.
"Nurse Joy!" Kyle yelled.
"I'm…stuck…cave…with…ki-" the radio cut off.
"Nurse Joy!" Kyle yelled again.
"Officer Jenny is on her way with a bulldozer!" Keith yelled.
"But she might not get here in time," Jewel said.
"Don't worry about her we have our own bulldozer," I said pointing out the door to Rhy.
"You need a Pokémon with Flash to light the cave up," Keith said.
"Don't worry," Jewel said pulling out a Pokéball. "We've got Staryu."
I looked out see the wall of rock crumbly as Rhy Horn Drill threw them.
"Lets go!" I said running out the Pokémon Center.
^Man that takes a lot out of a Pokémon^ Rhy said.
"Good job," I said.
^That is all good job? Well fine then^ Rhy said before I called it back.
^Jewel call out Staryu^ Chikorita yelled.
"Okay," she said. "Go!"
^Yes^ the Pokémon said.
"Staryu we need your Flash Attack to light the cave!"
^Yes^ Staryu said lighting its jewel.
"Lets go!" Kyle said taking off into the cave. The rest of use followed.
The cave was pitch black except for where Staryu pointed her jewel.
"How are we going to find Nurse Joy in here?" Keith said.
"Good question Keith," Jewel said.
^Did Jewel just complement Keith?! ^ Chikorita said surprised.
"I know," I said pulling out Bubbles and Shadows Pokéball and releasing my Pokémon.
^Yes^ Bubbles said exhausted.
^Who next! ^ Shadow said probably thinking I was calling him out for a battle.
"Okay Bubbles I know you're tired from battle but I need you to use your Super Ears to find Nurse Joy. And Shadow use your sight."
Jewel ran up and grabbed my arm.
"What's wrong?" I said.
"Remember the last time we were in a cave," she said.
"Yeah but don't worry, last time I only had three Pokémon but now with Keith and Kyle here we have a lot more Pokémon," I said.
^Where going to need it! ^ Bubbles yelled.
"What?!" Kyle said.
Then they appeared about a dozen Zubats.
"Ahh!!!" Jewel yelled.
"Quick Bubbles Water Gun! Shadow Psybeam!" I yelled out the commands as the Zubats started using SuperSonic.
^AHHH!!! ^ Bubbles screamed in pain.
^Take…this^ Venonat said between grunts as he shot out a Psybeam attack. The Zubats scattered causing the attack to miss.
"Chikorita try a Razor Leaf!" I yelled.
"I cant," a familiar voice said.
I turned around and saw Chikorita but she was a Pokémon she was human.
"What?!" I yelled.
"That's it!" Kyle yelled.
"I'm with you!" Keith yelled.
They each threw a Pokéball.
"Raticate!" Kyle's Pokémon screamed.
"Free," Keith Pokémon yelled.
"Butterfree Sleep Powder!" Keith yelled.
"Raticate use Quick Attack!" Kyle yelled.
Raticate attacked first hitting as much of the Zubats as he could with Quick Attack, then Butterfree let out a Sleep Powder attack making all the Zubats go to sleep.
"Go!" I yelled throwing a Pokéball it hit the nearest Zubat and sucked it into the ball. I caught at Zubat.
"Bubbles you okay," Rita said.
^Yeah^ she said then fainted.
"Great," I said disappointed I called her back into her ball.
"How come Chikorita turned into a human?" Kyle asked.
"None of your business," Rita said. "And the name is Rita."
"The real question is why?" Jewel said.
"Guys can we worry about that later," Keith said calling back Butterfree. "Lets get out of here before they wake up."
"Now that is a good idea," Rita said jumping over the Zubat.
Without Bubbles super hearing we had to rely on Shadows eyes, which he told us, didn't work so well in the cave.
"And that is how Chikorita turned into a human," Jewel said telling the story of how Rita turned into a human."
"How come she still has cloths?" Keith asked.
"She was wearing cloths at the time that the spell was cast," Kyle said.
"How come-" I stopped.
"What is it?" Jewel asked.
"Listen," Rita said.
Static from a radio.
"Where is it coming from?" Jewel whispered.
I looked around there were a lot of rocks piled in the corner.
"Under one of those rocks!" I said.
"I break it with a Headbutt!" Rita said.
"You cant caus-"
"I was trying to be funny Keith!" she said cutting him off.
"Rhy is tired from battling Kyle and Dewgong wouldn't be much help out of the water," I said going through my team.
"I know go Pinsir!" Keith yelled throwing a Pokéball.
"Pin," the Pokémon said.
"Pinsir use Strength and move those boulders!" Keith yelled.
"Sir?" the Pokémon said confused.
"It doesn't know Strength!" Jewel yelled.
"Fine use Vice Grip and move those rocks!" he yelled.
"Pin!" the Pokémon said going to work on the rocks.
"Go Machoke!" Kyle said throwing his Pokéball.
"Choke!" the Pokémon yelled.
"Get to work move those boulders!" he yelled.
"I feel kind of left out," Jewel said.
"You and me both," I said.
It took a while but we cleared the rocks.
"The last one," Kyle said as Machoke removed the rock.
Inside was a Walkie Talkie in a hole in the ground.
"What?! Nurse Joy isn't here," Jewel yelled.
"She cant be that far," Kyle said.
"Yeah, Shadow do you see her anywhere?" I asked.
^No sorry^ he said.
"Guys something is coming," Rita said.
"Look!" Jewel said as the two giant Pokémon appeared.
"Nidoking and Nidoqueen!" Kyle said.
"And Nurse Joy!" Keith yelled.
He was right in a giant basket was Nurse Joy.
"Uhh…" Nurse Joy said stirring.
"Nurse Joy you okay?" Rita asked.
"Nidoran," Nurse Joy said.
"Did she just say Nidoran?" Jewel said.
"Nido," Nidoqueen said looking at us.
"Give back Nurse Joy!" Keith yelled.
"QUEEN!" Nidoqueen screamed.
"I wouldn't do that again," I said pulling out my Pokédex.
<Nidoking A Drill Pokémon. When Nidorino evolves into Nidoking, it becomes much heavier and stronger. It's defense quadruples and it's HP doubles. This creature is truly king of all it surveys. It uses its powerful tail in battle tocapture, and then smash, constricts, and break the prey's bones. >
<Nidoqueen A Drill Pokémon. Nidoqueen, on the other hand, favors her heavy but powerful Tail. Nidoqueen's ponderous body is surprisingly agile, and her Tail Whip attack can seem to come from nowhere. She likes to use her massive size for strong attacks like the Body Slam. Also grows sharp claws, which can be used in battle. These claws are somewhat similar to those of Sandshrew. This large, creature is the result of exposure to the MoonStone. Her hard scales provide strong protection. >
"I don't think you should have argivate them like that," I said.
"Chris you have your Rhyhorn use it," Kyle said.
"But its still tired from making an entrance," I said.
"Then I will stop them Staryu Swift!" Jewel yelled.
"Hya," the Pokémon said releasing a whole bunch of swift stars that just bounced off both Nidoking and Nidoqueens body.
"Queen," the Pokémon said swinging its massive tail at Staryu hitting it.
"Staryu!" Jewel said.
"It cant faint we will lose the light," Keith said.
"Machoke Seismic Toss!" Kyle yelled.
"Choke," the Pokémon said lifting up Nidoking.
"Queen," Nidoqueen said Mega Punching Machoke causing Nidoking to fall on top of him.
"Machoke!" Kyle yelled.
"Give back Nurse Joy!" Rita yelled charging Nidoqueen.
Nidoqueen shot a Hyperbeam attack that hit Rita sending her flying.
"Chikorita!" I yelled running to my Pokémon/human.
"I'm okay," she said tring to stand up. "Ahhh," she yelled in pain.
"Your leg," I said looking at it.
"I going to use my Eevee," Jewel said.
"Its not strong enough to fight those Pokémon," Kyle yelled.
"Nido," Nurse Joy said to the Nidoqueen.
"NIDO!" the Pokémon yelled charging up another Hyperbeam.
"No," a Nidoran yelled jumping in front of us.
"Huh? Did that Nidoran just talk?" Jewel said.
"Its me Nurse Joy," the Nidoran said.
"No I'm really confused," Kyle said.
Nidoqueen and Nidoking shoot out the Hyperbeam attack.
"No!" I yelled closing my eyes when I didn't feel any pain I opened my eyes.
Chikorita was a Chikorita again and had stopped the Hyperbeam with Reflect, but you can tell she still got hurt.
"Quick Chikorita trip them up!" I yelled.
Chikorita acted fast tripping both the Pokémon they fell down.
"Shadow use Sleep Powder!" I yelled.
That did the trick making both Pokémon fall asleep.
Nurse Joy explained what happened.
"And I think the electricity had something to do with it," she finished.
"So you want us to zap you with electricity to fix your problem?" Kyle said.
"Yes," Nurse Joy said. "As much as I look so lovely an-"
"None of my Pokémon know an electric attack," I interrupted her.
"Same here," Keith and Kyle said at the same time.
"Well Staryu knows Thunderbolt but it might zap all of its Flash power away," Jewel said.
"We have no choice," I said.
It took us a while to get the Nidoran in Nurse Joy's body to sit still but when we did…
"Thunderbolt!" Jewel yelled.
The little star Pokémon let out a bolt of electicity that hit both Nurse Joy and the Nidoran when the smoked cleared.
"I'm back!" Nurse Joy said.
"So are they," Keith said pointing to both Nidoqueen and Nidoking.
"King," the Pokémon said picking up Nidoran.
"Queen," the Pokémon said, both of them turned and left.
"Awwww," Jewel said.
"That didn't deserve an "awww" those things almost killed us!" Keith said.
"Still it is cute."
"Is not," Keith said.
"Is to," Jewel said.
^Great this is going to be a long trip out of the cave^ Chikorita said.
"Tell me about it," I said.
