Submit a Fanfic
Please read the rules and suggestions before sending a fanfic.
Note: Any Bold and Italics WILL show up in your fanfics. Also, please tell me if you want me to put up your e-mail along with your fics. I won't do it unless asked.
Rules for submitting a Fanfic:
1. All stories must be suitable for young children. I WILL NOT put a fanfic on my page if it contains excessive swearing, steamy love scenes, etc. Basically, keep your stories G or PG, okay!
2. Include: your name (doesn't have to be your real name.), The fanfic title, and the chapter number if you intend to continue the story.
3. I don't mind if the fanfic is an attachment, or in the actual e-mail. However, if you send it as an attachment, please send it in .doc, .txt, or .wri format. I can't open any of those uncommon formats, cause I only have WordPad.
4. Let's have correct spelling, please! It's not hard, just use spell-check now and then. (Ok, ok. I DO run spell check on my pages, so if you want me to use spell-check for you, just say so!) Note: I won't run spell-check unless someone asks me to.
5. Length: No one-paragraph stories. Think of the Pokémon show. None of the episodes is only a minute long, so why should a fanfic have only five or six sentences?
Fanfic Hints and Suggestions: You don't have to listen to any of these, but you really should.....
1. BE ORIGINAL! This is the most important part of a good fanfic, and even I have had some trouble with this one. No one likes to read a story that begins with something like: [Character] comes from Pallet Town. [Character] gets pokémon from Prof. Oak after arriving late. [Character] is exactly like Ash in everything but name... etc. You get the picture. Now I'm not saying that you can't use characters, events, pokémon, and places from the show. Go ahead if you want to. Just don't make your main character exactly like Ash. (Unless you are writing about Ash!)
2. Check grammar. If people can't understand it, they won't read it.
3. About continuity: I suggest avoiding any stories about Ash that happen in the near future. Distant future is ok, present is ok, past is ok. Two weeks after the last episode you saw? - no! The reason I say this is because the episodes have a tendency to change the storyline, leaving non-conforming fanfics in the trash heap. Because of this, having Ash catch pokémon could be bad. (Unless you include a reason as to why he no longer has it.)
To be honest, this one's not quite as important as some of the other suggestions, though. I've seen some amazing fics that don't go along with the series, like Poké-Odysey. Of course, most fics that don't follow the series seem to be set in a sort of alternate universe, as a kind of "what if" story.
4. Rare pokémon: These include Mew, Mewtwo, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, etc. You can write stories about these pokémon, but I would suggest that you take it easy unless the fic is primarily focused on the legendary pokémon. In other words.... don't have some beginning trainer, no matter how talented, catch Mewtwo just because our clone friend wandered past -- it can make a story seem very unrealistic. As for the birds and Mew.... maybe (or not).
As an example, I used quite a few legendaries in my own story, Dark Reflection (and in the parts of A Master in the Making that tied in with that story) I tried to make them as tough as I could, without making them totally invincible. That's the real trick to writing about legendary pokémon... (Although, strangely enough, Mewtwo's easy and fun to write about!)
5. Now that G/S is out, use the new G/S pokémon and attacks! I'm looking forward to new fics with all the new pokémon!
OK, now that you've read the rules and hints.... What are you waiting for?
