Chapter 3
The journey from Route 31 to Cherrygrove City was uneventful, but things heated up a little bit once Adam reached Cherrygrove City. Adam had just left the Pokemon Center and was on his way to New Bark Town when a red-haired trainer stopped him. "Hey, loser! Guess what I just did? Speechless, huh? Well then I'll just tell you. I stole a Cyndaquil from Prof. Elm's lab. I bet a goody-good like you would never do something like that. Well I'm not letting you pass until we have a pokemon battle." "Fine then. I'll just have to defeat you and get you out of my way then." "Ok, loser, let's start then", sneered the red-haired trainer.
"Go Chikorita!" shouted Adam. "Oh yeah? Then I'll just defeat that with my Cyndaquil. Go Cyndaquil! Give it your best Tackle attack." "Chikorita, use your Growl to weaken it's Tackle." And the Growl worked, for the Tackle seemed to have no effect. "Ok Chikorita, Tackle that Cyndaquil until it faints and prove that type doesn't always matter." And after three Tackles, Cyndaquil was KO'd. "Oh my God! I can't believe I lost to a wimp like you!", screamed the red-haired trainer. "Oh well. Remember the name Cody, because that's my name and it's gonna be the name that is the victor of the next pokemon match we have!" "Ok whatever I'm leaving now", and Adam pushed past Cody and made his way to New Bark Town. The journey there was uneventful except for the defeat of a Rattata, a Pidgey and a Sentret.
The first thing Adam did when he entered New Bark Town was go to his house. Unfortunately, his Mom wasn't home so he went upstairs for a quick nap. When he awoke, his Mom was still not home so he left a note and went next door to Prof. Elm's lab. He was surprised to see a cop car parked outside on the street. When he entered he rushed up to Prof. Elm and asked what had happened. "My Cyndaquil was stolen! I think it might've been Team Rocket!" "No Prof., I battled a trainer who said that he had stolen a pokemon from here. I didn't believe him at first, but now I do." "Young man, did you happen to get his name?", asked the policeman. "Yes I did, officer; it's Cody." "Thank you. This is invaluable information in solving this crime." And with that the policeman went to look up a "Cody" on his database. "So Adam, how is Chikorita doing?" "It's doing great Prof. Elm. It's getting to be really powerful. In fact, it just learned Razor Leaf on our way back here." "Ah yes, which reminds me Adam, what was so important at Mr. Pokemon's house?" "Oh, it's this Mystery Egg." "This is fabulous Adam! This could finally prove that pokemon hatch from eggs! Well you had better be back on your pokemon journey so you can win all 8 badges and compete in the Johto League!" "Alright Professor, take care!" And with that, Adam was off, headed to the horizon...
Adam decided that to compete in the Johto League for badges, he would need more pokemon, so he headed to a grassy field at the base of a mountain to catch some new pokemon. The first pokemon he encountered was a Pidgey. He decided that a flying-type pokemon would be useful. He released his Chikorita and commanded it to Tackle the Pidgey. Pidgey Tackled Chikorita back, but it did not affect Chikorita very much. After one more Tackle from Chikorita, Pidgey was weak enough to be captured. Adam threw a Poke Ball and Pidgey was turned into a beam of energy and sucked into the ball. After a few seconds of shaking, the ball ceased moving and Pidgey was caught! Adam decided that two pokemon would not be enough, so he decided to catch one more. After a moment or two of contemplating, he decided that a rock-type pokemon would be useful. Geodude was the first rock-type pokemon Adam encountered, so he decided to capture it. Chikorita used a Razor Leaf to weaken it, and then Adam threw a Poke Ball, making his second successful capture of the day.
A few days later, Adam and all his pokemon found themselves entering Violet City. This was the first city Adam had visited that had a Gym in it. When he first entered the city, a young man told Adam all about Earl's Pokemon Academy, a place where young pokemon trainers can learn about useful training tips like status conditions. Adam was going to go there and check it out, until he found out it was $550 a day! He knew there must be some better way to enjoy his stay in Violet City...
And he was right. He had overlooked the Sprout Tower earlier. He knew this would be a good place to train his pokemon, as well as himself. It was getting late, so he decided to go to the Sprout Tower first thing in the morning.
He was impressed at the architecture of the Sprout Tower when he first arrived there. It was about 3 stories tall, and it was Ancient Yamato architecture. When he entered, he was in a large, wooden room, with a shaky pillar in the middle, that looked like it might collapse at anytime. Somehow, this wasn't a comforting thought. Then an elderly sage, whose name was Yin, told Adam he would have to beat a Sage on the first two floors, and the Elder on the third floor. If he could do this, he would get an HM05, Flash. Adam knew this would be handy on his later journeys, so he went for it! "Alright, young man, the first stage is to defeat me!", said Sage Yin. "Ok, I'm ready", replied Adam. Yin started the battle by releasing his Bellsprout (Bellsprout-Sprout Tower?) Adam had the perfect pokemon to use in these kinds of situations. "Pidgey, I choose you!" "Bellsprout, Growth." Bellsprout started to glow, and Adam knew that his special attack was quickly rising. "Ok Pidgey, KO it with a gust!" A tornado started to form around Bellsprout, and Bellsprout was flung against the wall. "Bellsprout, return", said a disappointed Yin. "I guess I should train my Bellsprout some more. Oh well. Now you can progress to the Second Floor, Adam." And that's just what Adam intended to do...
