Talk Is Cheap Interview with Porcell

When I was originally asked to do this interview, I was told that it would be with Ray Cappo. It was a surprise to hear Porcell on the phone. We had a great interview with him that covered just about anything we could think of. Porcell is a very nice guy with plenty to say. He talks about everything from Shelter's new album to their recent van accident. This interview lasted about an hour. Interviewers are Aaron Leonovich, Paul Hanley, and Brett Yetman ... this just a part of interview !

Aaron: Was that Lost and Found, Youth of Today- Take a Stand live LP authorized?

Porcell: You know, let me tell you. That guy from Lost and Found is the biggest crook that ever walked the face of the Earth! And I tell ya, I hope Sick Of It All will catch up with that guy one day 'cause they're gonna beat the crap outta him! He just rips off all these bands.

Aaron: So I guess it wasn't authorized!

Porcell: The thing was, for all those records that he put out, that dumb, live Judge record that he put out- he called me on the phone and this was like 6 years ago or something and this was when I first met him he was like, yeah I'm starting this new label and I really want to put out this Youth of Today live record and this Judge record and I was like, oh yeah blah blah blah sounds good and basically it was like talk over the phone. You know what I mean? And the next thing you know is you see all these records start coming out and I call him up and I was like you know you put out the records, when are we gonna get paid for them? And he bootlegs all these t-shirts and sweatshirts and the guy's put out everything from Project X, Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, everything. Revelation's furious with him. He bootlegs all their stuff.

Aaron: I think we have a question from Paul.

Paul: No, just something I wanted to add is I heard Jordan and everyone at Revelation is getting bands together and they're gonna get lawyers also and they're gonna file a lawsuit against this guy.

Porcell: Yeah, they've been talking about that for years.

Paul: I think they're actually gonna take action now.

Porcell: I think if Revelation is as fast as taking legal action as they are getting records out..

Paul: Good point.

Porcell: But I tell ya, I just wrote the guy a really long sincere letter and...

Aaron: Do you think he read it?

Porcell: Yeah, I betcha he read it. I sent it to his address and I was just basically like, here you are. You're supposed to be the label of hardcore bands but if you're just into it to exploit hardcore and exploit the energy of all these bands without compensating them then that's totally against everything that hardcore's about. So, I was like, if you have any ounce of integrity you'll freakin' call me up and try to make amends and with all the other bands you've ripped off also. I sent the letter maybe 4 months ago and I've never heard from him. I tried to be human about the whole thing and just talk to him person to person in a civilized way and that didn't even work.

Aaron: Is he still out in Germany? Isn't that label from Germany?

Porcell: Yeah. No one knows where he lives though. I believe in karma, so what goes around comes around. You don't get away with anything ...  ...
