WILL VINTON

Will Vinton took clay animation to the next level.  While studting architecture and physics at the University of California, he took an interest in the work of Spanish sculptor Antonio Gaudi.  He began experimenting with clay and film, moving and manipulating it one frame at a time.  He formed a studio, Will Vinton Studios, in 1975 and developed his first Claymation film, Closed Mondays.

He continued working and developing the process until, in 1985, je produced and directed to first feature-lengyh claymation film, The Adventures Of Mark Twain.  The feature film introduced him to a whole new popularity and he was contacted by a commercial firmyo develop a commercial promoting raisins and The California Raisins were born. Setting the Raisins in a new perspective with them singing "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" raised the eyes of Americans and California Raisins mania began.  The commercial inspired several animated specials.  Of course the commercial success brought in other commeral producers, all wishing the same success, Vinton had acheived for the raisin market.  Amoung the products he created claymation spots for was Nike, Frito Lay, United Airlines and the Noid for Domino's Pizza.

The unique appeal of his work spread into the music industry and he created animated videos with Micheal Jackson and John Fogerty.

Most recently, Will Vinton became executive producer of the TV series THE PJS, featuring the voice of Eddie Murphy. While the figures are actually foam, they have the look of claymation creatures.
