It is Jacques Griselle, now dead. Griselle is not the first death and Major Cummings had been given the task of finding out what is behind these mysterious fatalities. Unfortunately, once again, the request for an autopsy is denied. The Mayor and the sister have meet with the bases General and Cummings and in spite of the militaries explanation that unless a sound reson can be discovered for the deaths, the townspeople will continue to beleive it is the result of the nuclear power plant on the Air Force base. During the next test of the radar equipment, the nuclear power is boosted as the radar range limits are pushed to the maximum. There is a sudden loss of power and regardless of what is done, nothing can restore it. Meanwhile, in the town, the funeral of Jaques griselle is nearing it's completion as the radar plane returns to it's base. Then, just as suddenly as the attack on Griselle had occurred a farmer and his wife are assualted. A strange and invisible creature attck's the wife first as the husband reacts to the sounds trying to destroy this menace, only to meet his own death. The townspeople become further enraged at the base with these two new deaths believing that radioactive fallout is the real reason behind them. The military has finally received permission to perform autopsy's and they discover that both victims had two small puncture wounds at the base of their skulls and that their brains and spinal cords were completely removed. In an attempt to unravel the mystery in front of him, Major Cummings pays a visit to Professor Walgate. Arriving at the house he finds the front door open and enters only to discover Barbara Griselle coming out of the shower wrapped in a towel. After a brief moment of embarasement, Major Cummings notices a book by the professor entitled "Principles Of Thought Control". Barbara explains a little bit of what the Professor is doing before a local townsman, Howard Gibbons enters the room. Gibbons makes an uncalled for comment about Major Cummings motves for visiting the Professor. A fight ensues that barbara is forced to break up and then orders Major Cummings to leave. Back at the base, Major Cummings begins reading books and articles written by Professer Walgate. As night falls, Gibbons is just leaving the mayor's house after complaing about the Air Force base. The mayor begins to get ready for bed but is disturbed by strange sounds. Suddenly an invisible inavder has atached itself to the mayors neck and begin sucking out his brains, In seconds the mayor lies dead on the floor. When Gibbons discovers the mayors death, he is infuriated. He now believes that a soldier from the base has gone insane and is responsible for the deaths. He is certain that the soldier has fled the base and is hiding out in the woods. He assembles a search party and they head out into the forest looking for the madman. The major decides to return to Professor Walgate's house and try and speak with him. he is greated by barbara who gives him an icy cold shoulder. The Major begins talking with the Professor and when the subject of the recent deaths begins, the Professor, who apparently suffers from a bad heart, gets aggitated and begins to have some sort of an attack. barbara burst into the room and once again tells the Major to leave. The search party has had absolutely no success in finding the deranged soldier and as morning is beginning to break, the search party begins to break up. Gibbons insists that he is right and continues his search. Hearing a noise in the brush, Gibbons approaches the sound and with a violent scream, he discovers the reality behind the horrible deaths. With Gibbons now missing, the town concil meets to discuss plans of shutting down the base. Barbara realizes that the Major is really looking out for the best interest of the town and tries to defend the Base but no one will listen. Suddenly a loud, demented moaning sound disrupts the meeting as Gibbons stumbles into the room. He is totally deranged. The Major is becoming more convinced that Professor Walgate holds the ket to these mysterious deaths and tells Barbara of his suspicions. He explains that before he can come to any conclusions he must first check something out at the town cemetary. As he enters the cemetary an elderly man is leaving a tomb and after seeing the Major, hides. The Major enters the tomb and goes down into it's vault. While looking at the corpse of the Mayor, the Major finds Professor Walgate's pipe. Suddenly the vault door slams shut and the Major is trapped inside. Knowing that there isn't much air in the vault, the Major attempts to break open the door. With the Major missing, the base gets suspicious and contacts barbara who explains that he went to the cemetary. They find the major moments before he is about to collaps from exhaustion and lack of oxygen. The Major insists that he must question professor Walgate once more. He confronts the professor with the pipe and finally the Professor tells his unusual stroy about how he began experimenting with thought control. he discovers that an electrical charge boosts his telepathic abilities. He creates a device to help monitor and increase his telepathicx powers and then discovers a way to tap into the nuclear power plant at the Air Force Base giving him tremendous powers of mental ability. He forms a creature through his mental powers that is akin to the human brain and, like thought, is invisible. The creature is able to act upon it's own and it destroys the professors lab before escaping into the night. The professor believes that there are more than just one creature and that unless the base is completely shut down the creatures will only grow in power. He calls them mental vampires who live on the thought center of the human body while feeding on the pulse of radioactive energy from the nuclear plant at the Air Force Bace and that they are pure evil. At first, everyone is reluctant to believe him until the strange slurping sound begin. The nuclear reactor can not be shut down because rods have been destroyed and the creatures have entered the base boosting the power. This boost has made them visible. The creatures begin attacking everyone trapped in Professor Walgates house. The shoot one of the beasts and learn that they can be killed. Now it's a battle of wills to survive as they continue their assault. The Professor say that the only way to completely destroy them is to shut down the Reactor. Major Cummings decides to make an escape and head back to the base. Once there, he attaches a bundle of dynamite to the reactor and blows it up. Slowly the creatures begin dying and the assault is over.
