Chapter VII
Ferrin Colos
The Planet Zamba

It took years for the people of Zamba to rebuild after being attacked by the Qinorri, an alien race who invaded Zamba for its minerals.

One might simply assume that the Zambian people hadn't learned from their past, but that someone wouldn't live long enough to regret this wrong assumption.

While not obvious, the planet Zamba is very well protected and fortified by an invisible array of laser satellites which were build with help from some of the aliens Ferrin Colos and the other Darkstars had wrongly allied themselves during the Genesis event.

Today Ferrin lives in a small town in one of the planets biggest dessert areas, in one of the most peaceful communities in the entire planet, very much comparable to a small town in the latin american continent of the planet Earth, where people are satisfied with life as it is, no need for anything technological, except for maybe the bearest of things, like showers and kitchens.

Tired of being on the spotlight, as well as of waking up with aching muscles all over his body every day,  Colos has decided to become one with his surroundings, but still follow and uphold the law he cherishes so much.

Ferrin's life has never been an easy one. He thought he had found true love but was cheated of it by circumstances he'd rather forget and never think of again.

Today was the day when Ferrin would go to town to interact with some of the locals, as well as make sure that the community stays a peaceful one, but today would be different from all the yesterdays before, as like some old sheriff from an old western, Colos would be called back to the saddle for one last ride.

As Ferrin made his way to town, riding on his horse, he noticed a faith glimmer of light coming from high above him.

Must be a damn meteor or something. He thought, and he would have been right, had he not been wrong.

The glimmer of light became even more intense and it approached Ferrin at an incredible velocity.

Ferrin's horse, of course, began to get nervous and run out of control.

"Easy boy, easy." Ferrin said as he tried to calm his horse down, but it was no use.

As the glimmer of light came ever closer Ferrin began to notice its true colors.... light green, as well as something else. If this was a meteor it was the most attractive one he had ever seen as this meteor was actually a woman.

Ferrin got off his horse and tied him to a nearby tree.

"I'll be damned!" He exclaimed as the glimmer of light slowed down and landed next to him.

"Hey." The girl said while waving her hand at Ferrin. "Are you by any chance Ferrin Colos, or would you know where I could find him?" the green skinned alien said.

Ferrin right away noticed her Green Lantern uniform.

"Don't tell me someone's trying to bring back the corps... again?" He asked the young GL.

"I'm afraid so." The girl said. "I'm Jade by the by."

"Jade. It suits you." Ferrin said as he walked back to the three to untie his horse. "I don't know this Colos you're looking for."

"Aw, come on." She said with a smirk. "You know very well that my ring tells me if you're lying or not."

"Sigh. Yes, I'm afraid I do." Ferrin said as he lowered his head and looked at his horses legs, which showed signs of being very tired as they couldn't stop shacking, showing the horses need to lay down and rest. Ferrin padded his horse on the head, and right away the horse kneeled down to rest.

"So." Ferrin said. "Let me guess, you came looking for me to invite me to join the corps in some capacity or other, ain't that right?" He said as he took a cigar out of his pocket.

"More or less, yeah." Jade said as she approached the horse and petted him.

"I see." Ferrin said as he took a drag from his cigar. "So, you want me to leave my simple, safe life on Zamba and go back into space to who knows what and play space sheriff again."

"You got it buckaroo." Jade said as she took out a GL ring from inside her uniforms pocket.

Ferrin stared at both Jade and the ring for a few seconds, memories long ago buried deep within his mind coming back, good memories of playing hero and saving lives and bad memories of shame and loss.

It took Ferrin's conscience no more than 5 seconds to weight the good vs the bad before he answered Jade's invitation.

"Ok, pretty lady, you got yourself a deal. I'm man enough to endure a few more mornings of sore muscles." Ferrin said as he dropped his cigar on the floor and stepped on it. Then he approached his horse, took the rope around his neck and the three of them made way towards the nearby town, where Ferrin would leave his current life behind and start a new one ( pick up his old one, depending on the point of view) alongside the greatest and oldest law enforcement agency in existance.

Letters Page:

(This was written prior to the official release of this issue and the inclusion of the Ferrin Colos and Skymax chapters.)

Cool story. Kyle's sarcasm was funny. The characterizations (at least, of the characters I'm  familiar with) seemed right on, so kudos to you. It was nice to actually see a GLC being established, most fan fiction authors just sorta snap their fingers bang! The Corps is back. The one thing I'm worried about is Raker: That is, I hope he'll have at least some of the memories of his long-term conflict with Darkseid. His counter-attack in the war, and subsequent defeat of Darkseid in personal combat was pretty darn cool and I’d like to see him keep that memory. Not many people can say they beat Darkseid to the ground with a shovel after all  ^_^.  Anyway, no matter how you decide to write it, I'll be reading it. :)
