"What is next, brother?" Oiro asked Uatu.
"Now I obtain he who is my personal favorite."
"Reed Richards?" Ubbi asked.
"No. Though that would be interesting." Uatu considered. "No. The one I have chosen, and I believe you will agree, is the Zenn-Lavian, Norrin Radd."
"Yes." Iezo answered. "He is most deserving."
Atnu shook his head in agreement.
"Then the time is now." Uatu raised his right arm, his fingers spread out. "Behold, Norrin Radd."
A flash of light and in that instant stood the mortal alien.
"What? Where am I?" A moment ago he was walking on a busy sidewalk in Metropolis *, the next he was here.

"Greetings, Norrin Radd. Be at ease; you are among allies."
"Uatu. The Watcher." Radd recognized the cosmic being. "Why have you brought me here? What can I do?"
"These are my brothers, Norrin Radd. We have assembled with Ganthet, the last Guardian of the Universe. We are now the Guardians, and I have chosen you."
"I am not your equal." Radd held his arms out to his sides, palms open. " I am mortal *."

"You are perhaps the noblest mortal who has ever lived." Uatu replied. "And the universe has need of you. Would you turn away?"
"No. Though I no longer possess cosmic powers, though I am no longer the Silver Surfer, still will I aid in the protection of the universe. How may I serve the cosmos?"
"You see, brothers?" Uatu smiled at them, and turned back to the Zenn-Lavian.
"Here, Norrin Radd. This ring is for you."
It floated down from his large hand, and landed on Radd's. It was not the standard insignia style, like Rayner's, nor was it the round, "silver age" style like Jade's. This one somewhat resembled an hourglass with inward angled sides to the center circle.
"Is this a Green Lantern ring?" Radd asked these new Guardians.
"It is. Ganthet created it for Hal Jordan, but he refused it *. It is yours now."

"What danger threatens the cosmos?" He asked as he donned the ring.
"There is always the need for universal defenders, Green Lantern Norrin Radd. And know that you will be in good company as a member of the Green Lantern Corps."
"And where are they?" The non-masked GL asked. He was in the standard GL uniform. "Are they in peril?"
"Soon." Atnu replied.
"Yes. Soon." Uatu admitted. "For now, you must learn to use these powers, and train with your fellow Green Lanterns. They will be here shortly."
"And where is my Battery?" He knew that the ring had a finite charge of cosmic energy and would need recharging.
"Green Lantern Kyle Rayner will bring it."
