The Green Lantern Corps
"Reformation"
By Michael Sacal & Kenny Seghers
Prologue

"Okay. I'm here.  Why?"  Ganthet, the last surviving Guardian, asked the five Watchers.

They were in Uatu's massive dwelling on Earth's Moon, on the Blue Area.  It was a rare event for Watchers to gather.  And NEVER had they gathered with a Guardian before.  How could they have?  It had only been recently that universes had merged into one, making such a meeting possible *.  Still, it was quite a unique happening.

*: As seen in The Merge miniseries... Mike.

"I asked you here," Uatu replied. "I asked you all here, because there is a matter which needs addressing.  There is an element of the universe that has been missing for too long.  We must-"

"An element missing?"  Oiro asked. "I haven't sensed such a calamity."

"I'm sure he did not mean an element in that sense, brother." Ubbi assured his fellow Watcher.

"As I was saying," Uatu looked at them both. It was no wonder the Watchers rarely were together. Conversations had a way of spinning into various directions. "We must rectify the missing… segment… of existence.  I am referring to the Green Lantern Corps."

"I'm the only remaining Guardian *."  Ganthet said what they already knew. "I gave the only ring to the Earth man Kyle Rayner **.  He tried to form a New Corps but was unsuccessful ***."

*: As seen in Green Lantern, Current Series, #50... Mike.
**: As seen in Green Lantern, Current Series, #51... Mike.
***: As seen in Green Lantern: The New Corps 2 issue mini series... Mike.

"You were not thinking clearly."  Iezo meant to defend him. "Why else did you not give him the battery and explain what it and the ring were?"

"I don't know.  You're right; I wasn't in my right mind.  My brothers committed suicide.  I… I… it pains me still."  Ganthet had never spoken of that day until now.

"I have not called you here to chide you, Ganthet."  Uatu assured him and the others. "Rather, I have a proposal. We shall be your brothers; we shall be the Guardians of The Universe."  He looked at the four Watchers and the one Guardian.  "And we shall reform the Green Lantern Corps."

"But we have sworn an oath, brother."  Oiro said to all the Watchers, and not just to Uatu.

"There have been times when I have had to… bend the oath *." He looked at them all now. 'If I had NOT done so, this world would not be here today. This universe would have been destroyed without Earth's heroes."

*: Fantastic Four Volume 1 48-50, "The Galactus Trilogy", being the most famous one... Mike.

There was murmuring; none disputed that Earth's heroes had been crucial in the defense of the universe on a number of occasions in the last decade alone.

"We will honor our oath, but we must bend it ever so slightly.  We will guide the mortals who will defend the universe."

"How do we guide them?  Kyle and Jade seem to be doing fine."  Ganthet addressed the group. "They're sure to make another attempt at a Corps."

"For Earth, they are doing well; I have watched them."  Uatu replied. "It is the universe which cries for champions.  Of all the Watchers, I believe we five are most suited for this assignment.  Are you with me?"

"For the universe, I say yes."   Atnu spoke for the first time in 3 billion years.

"Yes. For the universe."  Oiro concurred.

"I will aid the universe."  Iezo answered.

Ubbi looked at his peers. "I agree."

The five Watchers turned to Ganthet.  He smiled.

"For the universe and the Corps… my brothers."
