| 18.- Why was Namor in the League and not Arthur? Why was Atlan in the Invaders and not Namor? |
| 1.- What's the premise of Omniverse? |
| The basic premise of the Omniverse is that most of the comic book superhero universes have been merged into one. Why? Because we thought it'd be fun to have a universe where Superman, Iron Man and the Grifter could not only meet occasionally, but interact in ways that just aren't possible in the all-too rare world of comic book crossovers. |
| 2.- What universes are included? |
| These universes include, but are not limited to:
Dark Horse's Comics Greatest World the DC Universe WildStorm every single Image Universe the Marvel Universe Malibu/Ultraverse VALIANT Defiant Broadway and many more... The DC, WildStorm, Image and Marvel Universes are the framework upon which the Omniverse is built upon. All other realities got 'dragged' down as an aftereffect of the Merge. |
| 3.- How did they get merged? |
| In DC Vs. Marvel (published a few years ago as an intercompany crossover),
we met two beings who represented each of the universes involved. One for
DC and the other for Marvel. Both beings were male, so I created female
representations for the Wildstorm and Image realities.
In our universe, these four beings met and had a 'cosmic orgy'. First the DC being (called Dee'Cee) and the WildStorm being (called Aegis) merged into one, followed by the Marvel being (Mar'Vell) and the Image being (Im'Age) doing the same. Both events were felt in the respective universes, first in the DC and WildStorm universes and then in the Marvel and Image ones. The two remaining beings made love with one another and the end result was a new baby, called Omniverse. The man known as Access (Axel Asher) was charged with taking care of the new universe by the Living Tribunal. Axel is now known as Existence and he's the guardian of the Omniverse. |
| 4.- So is this like Amalgam? |
| This is not Amalgam. Where Amalgam merged the characters into
new ones, the Merge simply merged the worlds. The characters histories
are untouched, except for certain instances. For example:
In the Omniverse, Galactus was present when Krypton exploded. After Kal-El's ship escaped, he consumed the remaining world before the explosion ended. In the Omniverse, Aquaman and Namor are brothers as Atlan, Aquaman's father, inhabited the body of Captain Mackenzie, Namor's dad, while he made love to Namor's mother. |
| 5.- I only read DC/Marvel/Image/WildStorm/VALIANT -- Will I be able to understand this site? |
| You will.
Each book is designed to be followed by the fans of the title character. Like WildC.A.T.S is primarily a continuation of the original series. Most of the members of this team book come from WildStorm but are complemented with one or two characters from one of the other universes, like Paul Kirk and Norrin Radd. Superman: The Last Son of Krypton, features a DC-only cast, with the exception of Franklin Richards and Jessica Carradine, both of which are explained in detail in their first appearance so that readers unfamiliar with them will be caught up as to who they are and why they are there. |
| 6.- Can anyone write for Omniverse? |
| Yes, all you need to do is contact me with your series proposal at my email address and I'll work with you in whatever project you'd like to do here. |
| 7.- What's the connection between the Pendragons Universe and the Omniverse? |
| Pendragons Universe is an imprint of Omniverse. Pendragons takes place in a Marvel-Only setting. There is no connection between the imprints other than the fact that Pendragons is hosted at Omniverse. |
| 8.- How can all these heroes live on one world? Don't they keep running into one another? |
| Only when a writer wants them to. When the Earths merged, they brought
with them all the locals that were exclusive to them.
The Marvel heroes, for example, have always dominated New York, while DC's exist in their own made up cities. Nothing has changed in that regard. For Spider-Man to meet up with Flash, one of them would have to travel to the other's home city. |
| 9.- Does Hypertime exist in the Omniverse? |
| Omniverse is a part of Hypertime. The real realities are still out there, represented by the comics you read every week at the comic store. The realities involved in the Merge were just exact duplicates of the real ones. |
| 10.- What about things like the Pocket Universe, Marvel's alternate earths (like Earth-S), etc.? Where do they fit in? |
| Those are still out there. The Squadron Supreme Universe is too different and complex to be adapted to the others, so that one, as well as others similar to it, have remained untouched. |
| 11. Is the Ultraverse a part of the Omniverse? |
| Yes, it is. Since the Ultraverse is not as different from the SS Universe, it was easily folded into the new Earth in the same way as other universes like it. |
| 12.- What about conflicting characters -- Marvel and DC both have Merlins, for instance? Do they all exist in Omniverse? |
| Some of those characters have been amalgamated with one another. This
is a rare occurrence (see question # 4), but it has happened at times.
DC's and Marvel's Death, for instance, were merged into a new character by the Living Tribunal and Access. Same with DC's Sandman and Marvel's Nightmare. |
| 13.- How do I find out where (insert character name) appears? Is there an index somewhere? |
| Not at this time, as such an endeavor would be too complex and time consuming for one man to do and since I'm the only active editor right now (my assistants are concentrating on launching new series and such) I don't have the time to focus on that. Anyone is welcomed to help out :) |
| 14.- I've noticed that there are VALIANT characters
in the Omniverse, but they weren't in the Merge. When did the
VALIANT Universe become part of Omni? |
| The VALIANT Universe was one of the many realities that got dragged
into the new Earth.
This is accomplished by the domino effect. Most, if not all super hero realities are linked to one another. Those familiar with the 'Six Degrees from Kevin Bacon' game could, technically, adapt it to a few comic book heroes. Like the Darkness (a Top Cow character) is one degrees from Spawn since both of them know Batman. In VALIANT's case this is a link that ws forged in the X-O Manowar/Iron Man crossover. X-O Manowar is one degree from Captain America thanks to Iron Man. And he's two degrees from Batman thanks to DC Vs. Marvel. It's this links, which exist all over comicdom, that pulled all the realities that weren't directly involved with Merge. On a separate, but important note, let me add the following: Crossovers like Superman meeting He-Man and Spider-Man meeting the Transformers are not part of Omniverse continuity simply because those concepts don't mix well together. However, there's nothing to prevent these characters from meeting on an Elseworlds or over at the Omegaverse imprint (the cartoon versions of the comics would have no problem interacting with other toons). |
| 15.- Which characters know about the Merge and that the Earth is really a composite of different versions of it? |
| Hal Jordan, the Spectre, decided to allow certain heroes to know that
the world they live on is really a merged one, made up of various different
alternate Earths.
These heroes include, but are not limited, to: Superman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Captain America, Thor and Iron Man. Depending on the series writer, s/he can decide if the characters in his/her series remember or not, long as they give the editor an explanation for it. |
| 16.- Does the world know that the Justice League and Avengers were separate until 2001 or were they merged since their origin? |
| As far as the world is concerned both teams were separate from each
other from the moment of their creation (around 1989) till 2001.
The reason why both teams joined forces was explained by the Spectre in JLA #1; to prevent another event like the Merge from ever happening the most powerful members from each team joined forces under one banner. This was explored more in JLA #2 through a series of flashbacks. One showed Diana moving to Avengers Mansion while another showed Tony and J'onn looking over as workers rebuilt it into its current incarnation, the Hall of Justice. |
