WPW AT THE DOGWOOD FESTIVAL: DAREDEVIL DEFEATS PSYCHO FOR WPW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE!!! PSYCHO REGAINS WPW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP!!! DAREDEVIL BURNED BY FIREBALL FROM THE DOCTOR!!! World Professional Wrestling made a triumphant return to the Mullens Dogwood Festival this past Thursday and Friday (May 1st and 2nd) and over 500 fans were in attendance for the two nights! Those attending saw Daredevil defeat Psycho for his first ever WPW Heavyweight Title on Thursday but then lose the title to Psycho on Friday after being burned by a fireball from The Doctor! Here are the results: THURSDAY MAY 1ST, 2003 MATCH 1: SUPERSTAR SHANE MATHEWS VS CHANCE PROPHET In the first match tonite, Superstar Shane Matthews made a triumphant return to WPW facing NWA Tristate Wrestling's Chance Prophet. This was a very tight match between the two until the big man of WPW, the 6' 6" tall/400+ pounder Big Daddy Gordy interfered on Matthew's behalf and laid Prophet out. Though Prophet won by disqualification, Mathews claimed the victory and said that thee was no one in attendance that could defeat him. HE and Big Daddy Gordy continued to beat on Prophet until? WINNER: CHANCE PROPHET MATCH 2: SUPERSTAR SHANE MATHEWS VS ADORABLE DANNY RAY Match number two saw Adorable Danny Ray come to the ring with a chair to make the save from the double team on Prophet. He challenged Matthews to a match as well. Danny Ray was feeling his oats and gave Mathews more than he could handle at first. But Mathews turned the tables and unfortunately, ADR came out on the losing end as Matthews made the pin using his feet on the ropes for leverage. ADR has vowed revenge and stated that blood will be spilled in the match for tomorrow night. WINNER: SUPERSTAR SHANE MATHEWS MATCH 3: WPW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: WPW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION PSYCHO VS DAREDEVIL Next was the WPW Title Match. Psycho controlled the tempo of this match and delivered his typical brawling style beating on the masked high-flyer in the ring and outside as well. The action spilled out of the ring and almost into the streets before Psycho returned the near helpless Daredevil to the ring. Big Daddy Gordy again came out to interfere, but this time it backfired as he caused Psycho to lose his most prized possession - the WPW World Heavyweight Championship. Psycho was visibly upset and with Gordy's help continued to beat on Daredevil until the dressing room emptied and all of the night's combatants were in the ring. WINNER (AND NEW WPW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION): DAREDEVIL
MATCH 4: SIX MAN TAG TEAM MATCH: CHANCE PROPHET, ADORABLE DANNY RAY AND DAREDEVIL VS SUPERSTAR SHANE MATHEWS, BIGDADDY GORDY, AND PSYCHO As all six men returned to the ring, WPW officials quickly sanctioned a six man "Street Fight" tag match that saw ADR, Prophet and Daredevil exact some revenge for the double and triple teaming that went on throughout the evening. This impromptu match ended with simultaneous pinfalls by ADR, Prophet and Daredevil over Matthews, Gordy and Psycho, respectively. WINNERS: ADORABLE DANNY RAY, CHANCE PROPHET, AND DAREDEVIL
FRIDAY MAY 2ND, 2003 MAIN EVENT: WPW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION DAREDEVIL VS PSYCHO (WITH THE DOCTOR) In the second night of World Professional Wrestling at the American Legion Hall in Mullens, WV for the Dogwood Festival, Psycho regained the WPW Heavyweight Championship from Daredevil when The Doctor threw a fireball that burned the masked wrestler's face. It is unclear at this time just how much damage occured to Daredevil as parts of his mask appeared to be melted into the flesh. He was hurried from ringside by security and rushed to a local hospital. Doctors had to cut away the mask to get to the burns. Initial reports had him blinded by the attack but physicians treating Daredevil say it was a temporary blindness that was due to the flash of the fireball and that his vision was returning. After the match, Psycho celebrated in the ring and was joined by Big Daddy Gordy, and several of the other wrestlers including Superstar Shane Mathews, J.V. Insanity, Bloodline, Johnny Blast and more. However, instead of congratulating the new champion and helping him enjoy his regaining the WPW Heavyweight title, Big Daddy Gordy attacked Psycho and very quickly the rest of those in the ring joined in to help. The Doctor was forced to go to the dressing room to beg the assistance of Adorable Danny Ray who rallied the other wrestlers ro rush the ring and clear out the bad guys. Joining ADR were Chance Prophet, Yellow Jacket, Big Dog John Cooper, and the twins of Gemini. Psycho recovered enough to thank Danny Ray for his help and offered him the first shot at his championship belt. ADR has held every title in WPW except the World Heavyweight Championship. He accepted Psycho's offer but said that to ensure there would be no outside interference, he wanted the match to be held inside of a 10 foot high cage! The Doctor also had strong words for Big Daddy Gordy saying "Don't think we will forget about you and what you did! Your time is coming and you will regret getting into our business!" So it looks as though Psycho will face many challenges over the summer from many of the top wrestlers in WPW. WINNER (AND NEW WPW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION): PSYCHO OTHER RESULTS: Here are the other results from the show:
"Big Dog" John Cooper defeated Mad Dog Morgan
Gemini defeated J.V. Insanity & Bloodline
Chance Prophet defeated Big Daddy Gordy
Danny Ray & The Yellow Jacket defeated "Superstar" Shane Matthews & Johnny Blast
WPW APPLE BUTTER FESTIVAL RESULTS World Professional Wrestling made a triumphant return to the Chapmanville Apple Butter Festival this past Saturday (September 28th) and over 200 fans were in attendance. Those attending saw the WPW debut of several new wrestlers and were surprised with two matches in a ten foot high steel cage! Here are the results: MATCH 1: JAMES STEVENS VS RIP MANSON The first match of the evening found Studd Stable member James Stevens squaring off against Rip Manson. These two were part of a great tag team match at the Harvest Festival in Logan and apparently still had some unresolved issues. Man had the support of the crowd from the get-go but Stevens controlled the early part of the match. Manson was content to take the action outside of the ring, looking for an opportunity to drop his flying elbow to the outside on Stevens. Once action returned to the ring, Manson used a top rope splash to pin the Studd Stable member. This had to be called an upset as Stevens and the Studd Stable have been collecting wins for well over a year now. WINNER: RIP MANSON MATCH 2: LOTUS VS MAD DOG JOHN COOPER Match number two saw the return of Lotus (in his second match for WPW) taking on the debuting Mad Dog John Cooper. At times, Lotus is eerily reminiscent of one of the Hardy Boyz and his in-ring style is very similar. Cooper, though displayed the mannerisms of a mat veteran and used patience and subterfuge to win the match. One crowd highlight had Lotus chasing Cooper around the ring, but Mad Dog quickly gained the advantage and used his bulldog finisher to eliminate the youngster. WINNER: MAD DOG JOHN COOPER MATCH 3: WPW TV TITLE MATCH 3 WAY DANCE: SENSATIONAL SHAUN EDWARDS VS DAREDEVIL VS MARK HOLIDAY (WITH CINNAMON) The next match of the evening was a 3 Way Dance for the World Professional Wrestling Television Championship. Current champ Sensational Shaun Edwards took on newly-named number one contender DareDevil and his own Studd Stable member and tag team partner, Mark Holiday. Holiday was escorted to the ring by his new valet, Cinnamon. Edwards, who narrowly defended his TV Title at the Harvest Festival against Adorable Danny Ray, now faced two tough opponents. In the early stages of the match, it looked like it was going to be a quick ending as the two Stable members used their tag team talents on DareDevil. DareDevil was named the number one contender to the TV Title after a string showing against Psycho at the Harvest Festival. Holidays valet, Cinnamon, also was an intregal part of the match, distracting both the referee and Holidays opponents. In the end, the greed and desire for the fame that comes along with any championship proved too much for Holiday and he turned on his stablemate and pinned the surprised Edwards to win his first title. After the match, he appeared to make up with Edwards and raised the former champs hand in the air. Then Edwards returned the favor, seemingly showing respect to Holiday. But his true animosity came through when he clotheslined Holiday and left him prone on the mat. A distraught Cinnamon carefully nursed Holiday back to the dressing room. Who knows what the future holds for these two? WINNER (AND NEW WPW TELEVISION CHAMPION): MARK HOLIDAY MATCH 4: BIG DADDY VENUS VS BIG DADDY GORDY This match was made after the antics of both men at the Harvest Festival. Big Daddy Gordy has been calling himself the big man of WPW since his debut. He is, after all, six feet, four inches tall and over 400 pounds! However, a returning Big Daddy Venus disputed Gordys claim and with good measure. He is six feet, six inches tall and weighs over 300 pounds! After a confrontation with a handcuffed Venus at the Harvest Festival, Gordy made a challenge to determine who was the biggest and baddest man in WPW. In the beginning of the match, the two men challenged each other with tests of strength. Venus, using his height as an advantage, seemed to control the tempo. As the match progressed, Gordy used his weight to turn the tide of the match. He threw the big man into the corner and splashed him, nearly knocking Venus out. Encouraged by the fans to do it again, Gordy rushed at the now slumping Venus like an oncoming freight train. But Venus moved at the last possible second and Gordy his the corner and nearly moved the ring off its supports! As Venus moved in to take control of the match, the fans at ringdside erupted as the Bad Boys of WPW, The Cuban Assassins, came rushing to the ring. They surprised Venus and began demolishing the gentle giant. Gordy looked as surprised, but before he could do anything, the Cubans turned their attention to him! Both of these big men were beaten down at the hands of the Cubans. Referee Kevin Anderson quickly called for the bell and the disqualification of both men due to the interference. Afterwards, the Cubans came to ringside and informed the crowd that although they might no be the biggest men, they will always be the baddest men in World Professional Wrestling. Gordy was incensed at this turn of events and came to the ringside announcing table. He told the crowd and a surprised Venus that he wanted a piece of the Cubans and offered a truce to Venus if he would tag with him against them. Venus quickly agreed but made one stipulation, that the match be held that night in a steel cage! The crowd roared its approval as the Cubans retreated to the dressing room. NO WINNER DUE TO OUTSIDE INTERFERENCE MATCH 5: SUPERSTAR SHANE MATHEWS & JOHNNY BLAST VS ERIC DARKSTORM & ADORABLE DANNY RAY This match began by Superstar Shane Mathews announcing to the crowed that he had never been in a town quite like Chapmanville. He stated that he saw a man with four chickens earlier and when he asked what he was doing, the man said he was the town pimp! He also wondered how so many people could get into a show like this and stated they must have been accepting food stamps at the door! The crowd generously booed the Superstar and his partner, Johnny Blast informed them that if they didnt quiet down, both he and Mathews would leave and not return. Of course, the crowd only responded with louder boos and the two men actually went towards the door. But they soon returned and offered a challenge to any Chapmanville redneck that wanted to wrestle them, saying they would beat them to a pulp. The crowd cheered when Adorable Danny Ray made his way to the ring, accompanied by Eric Darkstorm. ADR accepted the challenge on behalf of the fans and said that he and Darkstorm would kick their asses out of Chapmanville and to the county line, if need be. Fans of independent wrestling know that Johnny Blast has been a tag team champion for many different organizations over his career. He has also feuded with Danny Ray when the Adorable One was part of the WV Wrecking Crew. Darkstorm, another WPW newcomer, was introduced as the next big thing by Danny Ray, and quickly demonstrated his mat skills in the opening of the match. This match had several high spots and kept the crowds attention. Mathews and Blast used their veteran tag team skills to keep the young Darkstorm in the ring while a frustrated Danny Ray watched helplessly from the outside. The referee was also distracted by the team and missed several double teams as the two men entered the ring without tags due to deception. Danny Ray grew more frustrated as the match progressed and tried to enter several times only to be held back by the ref. This allowed Mathews and Blast to have their way with the young Darkstorm and they administered a terrible beating on the rookie. Finally Darkstorm made the tag and Dannry Ray entered the ring taking on both men. Mathews tried to turn the tide and set Danny Ray up for a double clothesline, but as Blast ran to the ropes, Darkstorm grabbed him from the outside and he fell to the canvas. Danny Ray caught Mathews in a DDT and rolled him up for the pin. WINNERS: ERIC DARKSTORM & ADORABLE DANNY RAY MATCH 6: CAGE MATCH CUBAN ASSASSINS VS. THE BIG DADDYS During the intermission, a ten foot high steel cage was erected around the ring. The fans were excited and ready to go. When the Cuban Assassins, the so-called Bad Boys of WPW, made their way to the ring, the fans at first booed loudly and then started the chant of U-S-A! U-S-A! The Cubans paid little attention to the fans and entered the cage to await their opponents. As Toby Keiths Whos Your Daddy? blared from the speakers, Venus and Gordy made their way to the cage. Instead of entering it, both big men made a trip around the cage to thank the fans for their support. They also grabbed the cage from the outside, pulling on it to test its durability. Once they entered the cage and the door was shut, the Cubans began their devious mannerisms. First, while Referee Kevin Anderson checked Gordys boots, Assassin #2 smacked the ref on the back. When Anderson stood up, there was no one to blame but Gordy. Gordy tried to tell the ref what had happened but Anderson warned the big man not to let it happen again. While checking his other boot, the Cuban again smacked Anderson on the back. This time the referee threatened to disqualify Gordy and end the match. As the referee once again knelt down to check for illegal objects, Cuban Assassin #2 tried for a third time to snack the ref, but Gordy caught his hand and the referee saw what was going on. Calling for the bell, he ordered the match to start. The Cubans used the cage to their advantage, throwing Gordy into it and bloodying the big mans forehead. Then they took a fork to his head while the referee was distracted. As Gordy tagged out and Venus came in, the Cubans double teamed the former Cool World Order member and quickly gained the advantage. Now the Cubans used their tag team skills honed by uncountable matches over the years to keep Venus in the ring, distract the referee and entice Gordy into the ring all of which had the desired effect of allowing them to administer a pummeling to Venus. But Venus would not give up. He kicked out of every pinfall attempt and used the crowds encouragement to build his energy up until he caught Cuban Assassin 2 with a clothesline and then was able to drag himself to the corner and make the tag. Assassin #2 also tagged in his older brother at the same time, but Gordy was able to handle them both. Eventually Assassin #1 and Venus battled to one side of the ring and Gordy used his superior size to roll up Assassin #2 in a small package for the win. Once outside of the ring, the Cubans laid blame on referee Kevin Anderson who quickly escaped to the dressing room. Verbal threats and challenges were exchanged between the two teams as both felt the final issue remained unresolved. Look for more from these two teams in WPWs future! WINNERS: BIG DADDY GORDY AND VENUS MATCH 7: CAGE MATCH FOR THE WPW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE PSYCHO VS EXCALIBUR This was the match fans had been waiting on since the show began. The rules were simple: no time limit, no disqualification and the title could only change hands by pinfall or submission. Excalibur was making a return to WPW after a three year absence. His tune-up matches at Chief Logan State Park (beating Big Daddy Gordy and Mad Dog John Cooper in a 3 Way Dance) and teaming with Venus against the Cuban Assassins at the Harvest Festival had helped remove much of the ring rust from this veteran. One thing that remained was the can-do attitude that he took with him to the ring. Disregarding the fans, the cage and his lengthy sabbatical, Excalibur focused on one thing, capturing the WPW Heavyweight Title. Only one man stood between him and glory 7 time WPW Heavyweight Champion, Psycho. Psycho went into this match in his hometown with one disadvantage he was without the services of his long-time manager The Doctor, who has been temporarily suspended from managing any active WPW wrestler. The Doctor was at ringside, agreeing to serve as a guest announcer for the evening, but the cage prevented him from helping his ward in any manner. Prior to entering the cage, Psycho took the time to berate the fans for failing to support him at the Harvest Festival. Now he had emerged to cheers and chants of Go Psycho, but he wasnt in a forgiving mood. He promised to prove to the fans, the wrestlers and everyone else why he was, is and will be the champion. He entered the ring and the match was on. Excalibur had a size advantage on the champ and he used it. Once he got Psycho down, he immediately went for a pinfall. Psycho proved tough enough to kick out several times throughout the match. Psycho then used the cage to stun Excalibur throwing him headfirst into the steel several times. Excalibur reversed this strategy and broke open Psychos forehead. Though stunned and bloodied, Psycho continued to work on Excalibur. As time went by, Excaliburs dexterity gave way and Psychos conditioning proved to be the difference. Excalibur wearied and beaten, finally collapsed to the mat after a series of Psycho-plexes. The Mental Misfit took this opportunity to first ascend to the top rope and come crashing down onto the prone Excalibur. Then, instead of pinning his foe, he quickly climbed to the top of the cage and waited for Excalibur to regain his footing. Excalibur did make it to his feet. He looked confused and didnt see Psycho anywhere in the cage. By the time he figured out that Psycho was on top of the cage, it was too late. Psycho dove from the top of the cage onto Excalibur and then covered him for the easy victory. After accepting the title from referee Mitch Hebner, Psycho climbed to the cage and celebrated his victory. Once Hebner left the cage, Excalibur came outside to argue with him about his officiating. Referee Kevin Anderson returned to support his protégé. Then Cuban Assassin #2 came from out of nowhere and blindsided Anderson, leaving him in a heap on the ground. Excalibur also took the opportunity to punch Hebner, staggering the young referee. As Psycho made his way down from the cage, both the Cuban and Excalibur left the ringside area. WINNER AND STILL WPW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: PSYCHO
WPW HARVEST FESTIVAL RESULTS Here are the results from the WPW show at the West Virginia HArvest Festival held September 14th at the Logan WalMart: In the Downtown Rumble, Big Daddy Gordy emerged once again as the champion. Gordy seems to flourish in these types of matches. His size and weight (6'4"/400lbs) combined with his strength and wrestling abilities make it hard for any single wrestler to eliminate him over the top rope. At the Harvest Festival, the other wrestlers never teamed up to try and take him out. The other big contender for the match was Venus (6'6"/300lbs). Venus never had the chance to face Big Daddy Gordy one on one, as Gordy eliminated him from the competition once his back was turned. (More on this later!) The Studd Stable of Mark Holiday and James Stevens returned to action facing a pair of WPW newcomers - Rip Manson and Lotus. While Manson has had several matches for other organizations and even had a prior appearance for WPW at last year's Dogwood Festival in Mullens, this is the first of a few scheduled appearances here for Manson and Lotus. Fans screamed their support for Manson and their disdain for the Studd Stable. Action spilled outside of the ring before the Stable was able to make a pinfall and score the victory. In prior action, Manson has been known to weld a deadly kendo stick. It was nowhere to be seen at the Harvest Festival, but it could reappear in the very near future! In the next match, Dangerous Freddy Cornell proved to be just that in a match with Red Dog Bill. Red Dog Bill, a local veteran of WPW, has amassed a great fan following recently. His previous characters (Sir Luke Hans/The Manster) within WPW also had some success, but were not always supported by the fans. In this match, the training and experience that Red Dog has picked up over the years, combined with his size and strength, to prove victorious. In fact, he even pulled a move out of one of his past identities arsenal when he applied the Iron Claw to Cornell and pressured him to the mat, winning by submission. Once Cornell regained his senses, he quickly turned on Red Dog and drove the big man into the mat with a version of HHH's pedigree. Unfortunately, Bill was injured by this move. He had to be transported to Logan General Hospital and then later flown to St. Mary's Hospital for further evaluation. He is recovering from his injuries and will return to ringside at the Apple Butter Festival. Because they occurred after the referee's decision in the match, Cornell has been fined and suspended from WPW for his actions. After Red Dog Bill had been attended to by LEASA workers and the ambulance had been removed from ringside, WPW took an intermission to determine whether or not the show should continue. Obviously many of the workers were upset at what had happened. At this point, Adorable Danny Ray made his way to ringside, grabbed the microphone and while standing on the ringside announcer's table, proceeded to give his thoughts about the current state of wrestling and WPW. The Adorable One has always been a shooter and this time proved no different. First he made the crew play an Eminem song and told the crowd to listen closely to the words. He then announced to all in attendance that his life was wrestling, that he lived and breathed only to be in the ring. As the Dean of the School of Old Style Wrestling, ADR laid claim to training Jamie Knoble, the current WWE Cruiserweight Champion. He also talked about the wrestlers on the card that he had worked and trained with, including his opponent Shawn Edwards. ADR removed the veil from the "kayfabe" side of the business when he talked about how any of the young guns of WPW would work any match just to be in the ring. He said that some of WPW's wrestlers have it all wrong, that the business is not about money or fame, but that it's the wrestling, the work they do for the crowds that is important. The crowd in attendance had sat through the emergency workers attending to Red Dog Bill, and also through some inclement weather, as it rained on and off throughout the show. Danny Ray said that because they (the fans) were there to see wrestling, that he, by God, would be just the man to give it to them. He Asked if they were ready, and then told the announcers to play his opponent's music and they would give the crowd what they came for - WRESTLING! So as his music played, the WPW Television Champion, Sensational Shawn Edwards, made his way to ringside. The crowds cheered both of these men throughout their match. It was a typical old-style match with holds and reversals, two counts and kick outs. The crowd never lost interest and when Edwards finally made the 3 count on the Adorable One, the crowd was satisfied that Danny Ray had done what he said he would do - give them a wrestling match. In the next match, the Cuban Assassins proved once again to be the Bad Boys of WPW as they faced the team of Venus and the returning Excalibur. Excalibur has not been in WPW action in a few years. He is no longer the light heavyweight of the past but can now fit in with the heavyweight division. The crowd took the opportunity to chant "U-S-A! U-S-A!" but it had little effect on the Bad Boys from Havana. The Cubans, though, once again dug deep in their bag of dirty tricks and somehow handcuffed each of the men to the ropes and then proceeded to administer a beating until threatened with severe fines and suspension by WPW referee Kevin Anderson. As officials began to release Excalibur from the cuffs, Big Daddy Gordy came into the ring and confronted the still handcuffed Venus. He smacked the big man in the face and berated him for saying he is the biggest man in WPW. Apparently Big Daddy Gordy lays claim to that title and wanted to make it clear to Venus who was the boss. Once Venus was released, he launched into a tirade about Gordy and said that he would defend his status as the "Big Man of WPW" at any time! Finally it was time for the Main event of the evening - a non-title 3-way-dance featuring the WPW Heavyweight Champion Psycho, the high-flying DareDevil and a newcomer to WPW, Superstar Shane Mathews. Needless to say, the crowd had been waiting for Psycho to make his appearance all night long. The anticipation proved to be worth the wait as these three men fought each other using chairs, tables, trash cans, cookie sheets and more. Psycho swore he would either break a table or he would break one of his opponents on it. He tried with Mathews and he tried with DareDevil before the table gave in. Psycho proved once again that he is the mark that all other wrestlers in WPW must use to measure themselves against. There is no tougher competitor in WPW and the crowd showed their appreciation not only for Psycho and the final match but for the entire crew and show at the Harvest Festival. Fans left the festival talking about the upcoming Apple Butter festival show and the promise of what WPW might bring to Chapmanville. So fans, make your plans to attend the show this Saturday Night at 8:00 p.m. as WPW returns to Chapmanville High School for Apple Butter Festival Mayhem!
WPW at the Dogwood Festival in Mullens Thursday, May 3rd, 2001 World Professional Wrestling and the Mullens VFW and American Legion teamed up to promote two fantastic shows as part of the annual Dogwood Festival in Mullens, WV! Over 200 fans attended these shows and a splendid time was had by all. Here are the results from each of the two nights of action: Match 1 Joe Brody vs Scotty McKeever These two mat veterans kicked off the night in a classic battle. Joe Brody, the hometown favorite, had the fans supporting him from the moment he appeared from the dressing room. Scotty McKeever, accompanied at ringside by manager Eric St. Clair, tried to woo the fans by proclaiming himself the best wrestler in West Virginia! However, his actions in the ring did nothing to prove this. He used every trick in the book against Brody. Finally, as referee James Robinson was distracted by St. Clair, McKeever positioned himself for a small cradle rollup, complete with a handful of tights and scored the pinfall against Brody. Although Brody complained to the referee, he was unable to get the decision overturned. Winner: Scotty McKeever Match 2 Adorable Danny Ray and Joey Nelson versus The Studd Stable (Shaun Edwards and James Stevens) This was a highly anticipated match featuring the Old School stylings of Adorable Danny Ray and his apt pupil Joey Nelson against the rookie newcomers, Edwards and Stevens. The Studd Stable made their entrance to the arena and waited for ADR to appear. As Joey Nelson made his way to the ring, Edwards and Stevens rushed Danny Ray and made their attack. Before Nelson could come to the rescue, the Studd Stable had injured ADR to the point where he could not make it to the ring! The Edwards and Steven enetered the ring to work on Nelson. Help was on the way, or so it appeared, as Rip Manson, carrying a kendo stick, rushed from the dressing room to second ADR. Manson and Nelson made a smooth transition as a tag team and gave the Studd Stable all they could handle. When Adorable Danny Ray appeared to have recovered just enough to be ready to enter the match, Edwards or Stevens would leap from the ring and continue to punish him. The match was very even until Manson pulled the kendo stick out and laid a brutal shot to the head of James Stevens. Referee James Robinson had no choice but to disqualify the team. Suddenly, though, Manson turned on teammate Nelson, laying him out with the kendo stick also!!! The referee warned Manson to end his use of the illegal kendo stick to no avail. As Manson and the Studd Stable continued their assault on Joey Nelsen, Adorable Danny Ray recovered enough to grab a chair from ringside and clear the ring. Though the verbal tirades continued, the referee's decision was final. Winners: Shaun Edwards and James Stevens - The Studd Stable Match 3 Heart Throb Shawn Adams vs Jack Miller 140 lbs/ 216lb/Cold City, WV This match was originally scheduled to be a 3 way Dance with Joey Morton. However, at match time, Morton declined to appear, choosing instead to work with the Urban Death Squad for Johnny Blast (see next match). This match proved to be the most exciting, action-filled match of the night. Both Adams and Miller were determined to end this match in a victory. Miller wowed the crowd with his flair and intense moves. Adams, although slight of stature, proved to be as tough as the giants of WPW and gave Miller a tough match. However, Miller was able to pin Adams for the victory and was cheered enthusiastically by the crowd. Winner: Jack Miller
Match 4 Urban Death Squad (Spyder Crowley & Johnny Blast) with Joey Morton vs The Canadians (The Player Lance Ericson, Canadian Brian Douglas) with Jack Miller This match was originally scheduled to be a tag team match of the Urban Death Squad versus The Canadians. However, Johnny Blast was late in arriving and Joey Morton agreed to second him. When Blast appeared just minutes before the match, the Urban Death Squad gained a significant advantage since Mortons name was now on the contracts. The Canadians seemed to be at a handicap, but Jack Miller came from the dressing room to lend an able hand. Although there has been some recent dissension between the Canadians, they had contracted to appear as a tag team here and put aside their differences for the night. The ring could not contain the action as both teams went to the floor to try to gain the upper hand. The experience of the Urban Death Squad and Morton countered the quickness of the Canadians and Miller. Miller again had the crowd chanting his name as his flashy style emerged through a series of fast paced moves. However, it was Lance Ericson who scored the pinfall over Joey Morton to claim victory for his team. Winner: The Canadians and Jack Miller Match 5 6 Man Tag Team Hollywood Kid/Daredevil/Rain vs Cuban Assassin 2/Cuban Commando/Big Daddy Gordy This match pitted the high-flying styles of Hollywood Kid, Daredevil and Rain against three of WPWs biggest men (with a combined weght of 888 lbs!.) The match was primarily dominated by the Cuban Commando who, while punishing Rain, refused to tag in his partners. Finally Rain made the tag to Daredevil, who fared no better against Cuban Assassin 2. The Cuban used a chain, hidden from the referee, to pummel the youngster. As the biggest man in WPW made his way into the ring, Daredevil tagged in the Hollywood Kid, who quickly disposed of both Cubans from the ring apron. Seeing that Big Daddy Gordy was on his own, HWK made a series of quick tags and all three men used a number of moves to bring him down. Most deadly were the simultaneous drop kicks to the legs of the big man. When Big Daddy Gordy finally went down, all three men covered him and the referee made the 3 count. The Cubans and Big Daddy Gordys complaint went unheard. Winner: Hollywood Kid, Daredevil and Rain Match 6 WPW Heavyweight Championship Psycho (managed by The Doctor)vs Rock-N-Roller Tommy Gibson This match proved to be a bloody battle as both men used chairs to try and gain control of the match. In fact, one wall at the American Legion Hall was left blood-splattered and stained. WPW champion Psycho had faced Gibson on many occasions. Gibsons plan was to injure the mental misfits back. He used a series of back breakers to set up a Boston Crab. Psycho appeared hurt, but when the Rock-N-Roller went for another back breaker, Psycho wrapped his legs around the head of Gibson and took him hard to the mat. At ringside, The Doctor conveniently distracted referee James Robinson while Psycho used a series of objects to leave Gibson battered in the ring. However, while The Doctor was arguing with the referee in the corner, Psycho threw Gibson into the referee, who collapsed in a heap. The Doctor quickly sprang into action, entering the ring with his loaded briefcase. As Psycho held a seemingly helpless Gibson, The Doctor ran across the ring intending to strike the Rock-N-Roller. But, at the last possible instant, Tommy Gibson ducked and Psycho was laid low by the briefcase. The Doctor appeared stunned and tried to check on his fallen charge. Gibson took this opportunity to level the quack physician and covered Psycho for the pin - but the referee was still down! Gibson made his own three count, but by this time the Doctor had recovered and nailed him with the brick-laden bag. He pulled Psycho over Gibsons prone body and awakened the referee who made the three count securing the victory for Psycho and continuing his reign as the WPW Heavyweight Champion! Winner: Psycho Battle Royale For the finale of the evening, every combatant returned to the ring to face off in a 20 man Battle Royale for a chance at the WPW Heavyweight Champion on the following night. Here was the order of elimination: 1. Scotty McKeever 2. Daredevil 3. Rain 4. Johnny Blast 5. Canadian Brian Douglas 6. Shaun Edwards 7. Joey Nelson 8. James Stevens 9. Joe Brody 10. Cuban Commando 11. Adorable Danny Ray 12. Cuban Assassin 2 13. Rip Manson 14. Spyder Crowley 15. Shawn Adams 16. Jack Miller 17. Tommy Gibson 18. Lance Ericson 19. Big Daddy Gordy 20. Hollywood Kid Winner: Hollywood Kid Hollywood Kid won the right to face Psycho for the WPW Heavyweight Championship the following night. Friday, May 4th, 2001 Match 1 WPW Television Title Match Adorable Danny Ray vs Shaun Edwards This match was all about revenge as the Adorable One sought retribution for the previous night?ctions. Edwards demanded that Danny Ray put up his WPW TV title if he wanted the match. ADR was more than happy to oblige because he so desperately wanted to get his hand on the Studd Stable member. And living up to his trade, ADR took the young Edwards to the School of Old Style! It was arm bars, hip tosses and chin locks, all designed to wear down the young gun. But what Danny Ray failed to account for was the ringside appearance of Studd Stable member James Stevens. He climbed to the ring and as the referee was trying to make him leave, Stevens tossed in a set of brass knuckles to Edwards who used them on Danny Ray to secure the victory and earn him his first championship. Winner (and new WPW TV Champion): Shaun Edwards Match 2 Joey Nelson vs Rip Manson Joey Nelson was also seeking revenge for the traitorous turn of Rip Manson from the previous night. These two young men have promising futures ahead, if they can live through the battles. Manson took Nelson outside of the ring and delivered a flying elbow drop from the ring apron. He returned to give another one but Nelson was able to move and turned the tide on Manson. He rammed Manson?ead into the ringposts and returned to the ring. As Nelson waited for Manson to enter, Studd Stable member James Steven came from the back to return the previous night?avor to Manson. He distracted Joey just long enough for the Cactus Jack wannabe to grab his kendo stick and start delivering blows to Nelson outside of the ring. Referee James Robinson appeared to intent to let the match continue as long as the kendo stick remained outside of the ring. After beating Nelson down, Manson rolled him into the ring and covered the nearly unconscious Nelson for the pin. But Manson wasn?inished! He again took the kendo stick and began to pummel the prone Nelson. Referee James Robinson attempted to interfere and break up the carnage, but Manson leveled him with the deadly kendo stick. WPW officials swarmed the ring and restored order. Referee Robinson overturned the pinfall and ruled that Nelson was the winner due to Manson?ttack upon him. Further, he fined Manson $500 for his actions. Winner: Joey Nelson Match 3 WPW United States Heavyweight Championship Match Scotty McKeever (Managed by Eric St. Claire) vs Joe Brody Brody made the challenge to McKeever for his U.S. Championship and was determined not to repeat the previous night?ailure. The crowd was firmly in support of Brody and was quick to point out any attempt McKeever made to break the rules. The match was up for grabs as Brody scored numerous two counts on McKeever, with the referee just coming up short on the 3 count. When McKeever took exception to the referee?eliberateness, and threw Brody into him, manager St. Claire quickly came into the ring to help. St. Claire took his purse, eveidently loaded with something weighty, and swung at Brody. But Brody ducked and St. Claire leveled his own man! Brody then leveled St. Claire and referee James Robinson was able to make the three count. Afterwards, Brody celebrated with the fans while McKeever accused St. Claire of deliberately decking him. Apparently he was correct in his assumption as St. Claire again used the purse to down McKeever! Winner (and new WPW United States Heavyweight Champion): Joe Brody Match 4 4 Corners Match Daredevil vs Rain vs Cuban Assassin 2 vs Big Daddy Gordy vs James Stevens vs Lance Ericson The 4 corners match is a unique match where two men are in the ring to star the match and there is another opponent in each corner of the ring. Any man who is tagged must enter the ring to continue the match. Alliances and friendships are pushed aside and even the best of friends must face each other. This match saw every participant face off at one time or another. Some of the best action came when The Player Lance Ericson faced off against Big Daddy Gordy. No one had yet been able to bodyslam the big man, but the former Canadian (having renounced his citizenship earlier in the show) was able to get the big man up and put him down??d he almost took the ring with him! One of the main supports for the ring was broken in two by the force of Ericson?lam! However, Gordy was down but not out and later scored a clean pinfall victory over James Stevens to win this match. Winner: Big Daddy Gordy Match 5 WPW Heavyweight Championship Match Psycho vs Hollywood Kid The Hollywood Kid, having won the right to face Psycho by winning the Battle Royale on Thursday night, also successfully lobbied WPW officials to have the Doctor barred from ringside. However, The Doctor was in attendance as a paying fan! Once again, Psycho was up to his old tricks using chairs, garbage cans and even tried to suffocate the Kid with a plastic bag! They battled around the arena and threatened to go outside until the referee warned them and began a 10 count. The action returned to the ring as Hollywood Kid gained the upper hand through several submission type moves that cut off the mental misfit?ir supply. Psycho had had enough and tossed Hollywood directly in front of The Doctor, who took the opportunity to begin kicking the fallen Kid. Referee James Robinson caught The Doctor in the act and escorted him from the ringside area. While the referee was away, Big Daddy Gordy came to Psycho?id and laid out the Hollywood Kid with a massive splash! He left the ring as Psycho rolled over onto the Kid and scored the pinfall victory. Then Gordy returned to the ring and he and Psycho began to double team the still-prone Kid. The Player Lance Ericson came from the dressing room to make the save for the Hollywood Kid. But Psycho remains the WPW Heavyweight Champion! Winner: (and still WPW Heavyweight Champion) Psycho
