WPW RETURNS TO THE MULLENS DOGWOOD FESTIVAL WITH DOGWOOD DESTRUCTION 1 & 2! If you pass by the American Legion Hall during the Dogwood Festival and hear the sounds of bangs and booms coming from inside, you might think that the veterans are watching the latest news from Iraq. Well, think again because what you are hearing are the sounds of powerbombs and bodyslams as World Professional Wrestling makes its return to Mullens. On Thursday, May 1st and and Friday, May 2nd, WPW will present "Dogwood Destruction: 1 & 2" as part of the Festival's activities. This marks the wrestling organization's second appearance at the fair.
WPW officials promise that fans attending will see feuds flower and violence blossom in a lethal combination of harm, harshness and horror throughout the show. Many WPW favorites are scheduled to appear including Psycho, Adorable Danny Ray, Big Daddy Gordy, Mad Dog John Cooper, Superstar Shane Mathews, Rip Manson, Gemini, Daredevil and more. The matches for this show have yet to be finalized but will include a WPW World Heavyweight Title defense by the current champion, Psycho, a WPW TV Title match and a WPW Tag Team contenders match as well.
Barring any unforeseen changes, here are a few of the scheduled matches:
In a match for the WPW Television Title, current champion Superstar Shane Mathews will face Adorable Danny Ray. Last year these two had several classic battles until Mathews took the title in a match in Marmet. Since then, he has successfully defended the belt against other challengers but has avoided a rematch with Danny Ray. The Adorable One has kept his focus on his tag team career but now is ready to return to singles action against Mathews. ADR has proven time and again that he is among the elite wrestlers in WPW having held every title except the Heavyweight Championship.
NWA Tri-State Heavyweight Champion Chance Prophet will face Eric Darkstorm in a match that promises to have lots of high-flying action. Chance Prophet, formerly known as Joey Nelson in WPW, has seen his career take off and recently was crowned the NWA champ. Darkstorm has also improved and promises to give Prophet a well-deserved beating in front of the Mullens fans. Prophet says that his new look and new attitude has brought him a renewed focus in the ring. He will be ready for Darkstorm.
WPW Heavyweight Champion Psycho will take on Daredevil in action at the Dogwood Festival. Daredevil, a highly talented high-flyer, has challenged Psycho before and taken him to the limit but has never beaten the mental misfit. Psycho's manager, The Doctor, has guaranteed a victory for his ward adding that he has made special preparations to guard against any outside interference. "In the past two years, I have had to deal with Adorable Danny Ray and Hollywood Kid sticking their noses into my business. This year will be different, I can promise you that!" said The Doctor.
Other wrestlers on the card include the 6' 5" tall, 400+ pounder Big Daddy Gordy, Mad Dog John Cooper and many others. World Professional Wrestling shows usually brings the biggest crowds of the Festival. There's no reason to believe it will be otherwise this year. Fans of World Professional Wrestling will want to be in attendance at Chapmanville High School this Saturday evening as WPW makes its return to the Chapmanville Apple Butter Festival. Bell time is 8:00 p.m. Wrestlers scheduled to appear include Psycho & The Doctor, Adorable Danny Ray, The Cuban Assassins, Mark Holiday and James Stevens of the Studd Stable, WPW TV Champion Sensational Shawn Edwards, DareDevil, Big Daddy Gordy, Venus, Superstar Shane Mathews, Rip Manson and more. Also making a special appearance at ringside will be Red Dog Bill. So fans, make your plans to attend the show this Saturday Night at 8:00 p.m. as WPW returns to Chapmanville High School for Apple Butter Festival Mayhem!
FURNITURE WORLD CANCELS WPW SHOW Due to the threat of bad weather from the remnants of Hurrican Isidor, Furniture World was forced to cancel the WPW show scheduled for Saturday, September 28th at 2:00 p.m. WPW will work with Funiture World to reschedule this show as soon as possible. Updates will be posted on the Message Board. RED DOG BILL INJURED AT HARVEST FESTIVAL! Longtime journeyman wrestler and current WPW fan favorite Red Dog Bill was injured at the hands of Dangerous Freddy Cornell at the WV Harvest Festival in Logan last night (September 14th.) Red Dog Bill had just defeated Cornell using the iron clawhold. Cornell, once he recovered, blindsided Red Dog and delivered a pedigree to the unprepared wrestler. It appeared that Bill suffered a neck or shoulder injury along with a broken nose. WPW will have updates on the message board once more information is know. Dangerous Freddy Cornell has been fined and suspended from World Professional Wrestling for his actions. Harvest Festival Lineup Released Since tradition holds that the third times a charm, then this years West Virginia Harvest Festival should prove to be most charming with the return of World Professional Wrestling. On Saturday, September 14th at 8:00 p.m. at the Fountain Place Mall in Logan, WPW will present the Harvest of Harm show as part of the Festivals activities.
