To Tapah by Road & Rail Tapah

Rail travel in Malaysia is not popular and hardly heard off. Today with more railway lines put into effective use, the awareness is increasing.

Some 10 kilometers away from Tapah, there is this railroad junction called Tapah Road. Those visitors relying on the railroad as their transport to reach the Cameron Highlands will have to stop at this terminal. Here, many remnants of the old railway station can still be seen. e.g. these cast iron pillars that support the bridge.

The Town Of Tapah

This is a medium size square township that used to serve the railways and provide the linkage for the highland farmers. That need have vanished forever with the opening of new expressways. Farmers now dispatch their produce to big cities within short time and predictable time.

While most people rushes through the town using a main road that cuts right through town.

Few ever have the inkling or need to stop and examine the size of the town or its main activities in town. Outsider seldom see this sight - a view from east to west of town, with the wet market in the foreground

Tapah is the administrative headquarter of a region in Perak known as Batang Padang. Another name seldom heard off and the colorful buildings here are the offices.

This is the refurbished building for the town's Post Office with its contemporary architecture

The old faithful town clock tower still stand, as what was once upon a time, the old town center. Regrettably, though this place is only a stone throw away from the main thorough fare, nobody recognizes its glorious past.

This is indeed a quite perhaps deserted small township where life must be very pleasant.

The Rest House in Tapah

For those travelers wishing to make a halt or needed some place nice, then this is the most appropriate. Right ambience and convenient!

The building is situated on top of a small hill over looking the old part of town. It is just beside the road from Tapah and Tapah Road!

Rebuilt using present day's architecture and equipped with proper facilities

The rooms are situated in an annexed building alongside the main buildings. There 2 of such annexes.

In the main building, the reception is inside the restaurant area that serve meals throughout the day. The Rest House keeper said that this venue is popular among visitors using the train services and those weekenders doing a day trip to the Cameron Highlands.

Looking across the main road to Tapah Road is the Sungei Batang Padang, mighty yellow, flowing down from the highlands. Those shadowy peaks at the background are Cameron Highlands.

As you can see from the pictures, this is a very neat place with tasty and proper meals. Do drop by and enjoy the ambience, a good break for the weekends from Kuala Lumpur or Ipoh.
