A good example of a viable Resthouse

  Teluk Intan

Teluk Intan is a fair size township at the confluence of the Perak and Bidor Rivers. A intersection town, an administrative center and now, a fast becoming sprawling metropolis. To the all "mouldies" their hometown is still very much known as Teluk Anson. I, too like to use that name.

This was one scene at the bank of the broad Perak River. You could see but hardly make out any details on the opposite bank. The river made its way, passing flows by the town.

Not deterred. We looked for a jetty. A sign that there would be a settlement or settlements. On the opposite banks.

Sure enough. At this spot was a small jetty to cater for the riverside activities. Popular many years ago, now it is hardly used. Hardly used, meant no one was crossing the river. Oh! There was a nice bridge further south of town. Traffic using that detour would be faster and safer. That explains.

Good and better roads give easy access to Teluk Intan, these days. This town is also known for its ship and watercrafts construction!

"The Leaning Tower of Teluk Anson"

This is the famous landmark of Teluk Intan formerly known as Teluk Anson.

Built in 1885 and it is still the one item that the town is associated with.

The town center, itself occupies a fairly large area, with different quarters.

At the entrance to town are the huge administrative offices.

The broad roads will eventually ends at the old commercial quarters

In the vicinity of the Clock Tower [leaning] is an open town square. Blocks of retail shops filled its borders!

Away from this "town center" and closer to the river banks - the oldest part of the original town ship, residential zone!

Market Street, a long street that runs along the river banks is an example of this zone.

Wooden houses among Sonneratia trees and wooden boardwalks

We made our way around town, with an eye to spot something interesting to report.

True enough, we stumbled upon this  interesting but dying industry.

Bamboo basket weaving. There should be a separate write up on this subject. I hope that it will appear in our site on "Vanishing Trades"

Attempts were made to have a couple of parks and playground beside the river banks

The Resthouse

The Rest House building is built on a large piece of land fronting the main road at the southern approach into town

Couldn't understand what this huge land bank is for!

It is a modern bungalow with 2 annexes as rooms. The central building houses the receptions and dinning area. Rooms are available in 3 buildings. The long main building, the bungalow as you can see on the right side. Yet, on the left side, there is another bungalow.

These are offered to tenants who prefer some privacy!

Looking at the Resthouse from the east, row of rooms in a double stories annex.
Now, this long blue building is not part of the rerst house complex. It is the local school.

Imagine that you are spending a night and the school starts at 7.30 am.

This is the interior and also the luxurious dinning area.

On raised floor, the counter on the left is the reception.

Having seen its patronage during lunch time, we were impressed with the capability of the contactor! Further discussion with the husband and wife pair only confirmed our observation that they are good in what they are doing!
