Beautiful Picnic area in Ulu Dong It had been some time now since we visited this controversial village. This time, the check on the speedometer showed it is 13 kilometer right up to the inner picnic area. A new picnic area some 500 meters before the fall is now developed and equally popular with the locals. The Malay villages along the way still looked as charming as we last saw them. Then the jungle adjourning the infamous house had been planted with rubber and fruit trees except the solitary plot of land that over grown with weeds. At the fall, there are a few changes made. 2 buildings intended for school children outward bound now occupy the upper portion. |

A new track to leading down into the fall is heavily used. Similarly the cascades at this upper level is now properly barricaded as seen in the picture. |
|
Lower down, an overhead bridge now crosses the narrow gorge to join both banks. Here is a picture of the picnickers using the bridge. From the bridge, an aerial view photograph of the cascades at the lowest point makes the falls look dramatic. There is even one portion of the stream, a collection of underground water, flowing out beneath the boulders. Picture on the left shows water flowing out beneath the boulders while the one on the right is the main cascade. |

All the natural sight appeared perfect except the scenery was marred by the presence of large crowd and the way they used the picnic area. The water became chalky with bather churning up the fine particles. There was even a loud bang from a firecracker thrown into the fall. If you are considering a trip to this place, do it on a weekday. You can have the whole beautiful place to yourself. |
