Magickal Days

Following is a list of the Sabbats that are generally celebrated by Wiccans.   Observing the following Sabbats is one way to connect with nature and its cycles.

(N.B.  The dates listed are those for the southern hemisphere)

Samhain  --  May 1st
Samhain is the end of the Wiccan year for many.  It is a time for reflection over the past year, and for remembering those who have passed over.

Yule (Winter Solstice)  --  approx June 21
Yule coincides with the longest night of the year.  It is a time to celebrate the promise of rebirth after the dark of winter.

Imbolc  --  Aug 1
Imbolc coincides with the coming of spring, and the time that the earth awakens after winter.

Ostara (Spring Equinox)  --  approx Sept 21
Ostara occurs when the balance of night and day are equal.  It is a time when new life has blossomed; a time for beginnings and actions.

Beltane  --  Oct 31
Beltane is a time for feasting, and celebrating life and fertility and the union of the Goddess and God.

Litha (Summer Solstice)  --  approx Dec 21
The longest day of the year.  The fertility of the Earth and the Goddess is at its highest.  A time for celebrating the beauty that surrounds us.

Lammas/Lughnasadh  --  Feb 2
A time to celebrate life and acknowledge successes.  Traditionally the time of the first harvest.  However, summer is fading, along with the strength of the God and the sun.

Mabon (Autumn Equinox)  --  approx March 21
The day and night are once again equal in length.  A time to look into oneself and reflect on what your spirituality means to you.

In addition to the Sabbats listed above, Wiccans regularly celebrate when the moon is full (otherwise known as Esbats).
