Version 6.38 fixed a problem in the PolyDur editor where, when testing beats/measure, it would previously sometimes ignore the time sig specified in the song file, and use 4 beats/measure instead. Also, the ability to rapidly change multiple note lines was improved.
Version 6.36 added a more complete explanation of the .hds song syntax, improvements to the PolyDur music editor, and more options when recording a song to a .mid file. I also added some delicious reverb to Canon in D and some other songs.
Version 6.27 added a new menu option to insert a short delay in milliseconds between when one note is released and the next pressed, to better synchronize some computers and midi modules and create more realistic playback when playing .hds songs, and another option to set the default Dynamic to be used when you click the piano keyboard with the mouse or play an .hds song. Also, the song window was made larger when the screen is maximized, which helps with editing. Also, the 'Highlight each note as it plays' option works more smoothly now.
Version 6.24 fixed the problem where sometimes, even though Polyphony = 4 or more voices (channels), only the first 3 would play. Also, instructions were added about how to use Excel to add new channels (voices) to an .hds song. Also, flute/recorder was added to the 2nd parts of Windy and El Condor Pasa, and string ensemble to the 2nd part of Moon River.
Version 6.20: New instructions were added to the manual about how to mute or reroute one or more channels and how to add a 'repeat and fade' effect to the end of a song. Also, the operation of the pause/resume button was improved.
Version 6.19 removed the restriction that a [Repeat Xx] line can't follow another, and that a [Repeat End] can't follow another. Also, now any Repeat section, even nested ones, can have alternate endings. Previously, only the first level could have them. Also, a pause/resume button was added so you can pause the playing of a song, and resume later. Also, 14 new .hds songs were added.
Version 6.18 added a newly organized and easy to read manual. Also, the Channel frame was changed so that when you type a new Instrument# or Note ON or Note OFF velocity for a channel, the change is immediate. Previously, you had to hit the enter key to make the change, but that can be confusing in a Windows environment.
Version 6.17 added an option (under the 'Sound' menu) to send an immediate midi command to the output device, rather than being limited to sending them only from .hds song files, and an option to reset all controllers for the current channel to their default state.
Version 6.15 added the ability to add virtually any valid midi command to PolyDur song files, for instance, to change instruments, pan, volume, and add reverb and other special effects.
Version 6.14 allows slurs, ties, and legato sequences to be nested within each other. Also, you can now deselect the slur/tie/legato begin and end count error checking if you wish. Also, a volume control slider was added. Also, instrument volume dynamic changes, like pp, p, mp, etc. can now be used in PolyDur files.
Version 6.12 added new commands that can be used in PolyDur songs: Lb and Le, for legato begin and end. Also, it will now display an error message if the slur/tie or legato begin and end counts don't match. Also, when saving a song to a .mid file, you can now specify the tempo.
Version 6.11 fixed the slur/tie problem where some notes where played as if they were slurred or tied but shouldn't have been.
Version 6.9 added the ability to use up to 16 different voices in song files, each written to a separate midi channel. Also, each voice can now be assigned to a different instrument, if desired. 6.9 also adds several new enhancements to the PolyDur editor and fixes the problem where, if you clicked 'Test beats/measure', it didn't always calculate the beats correctly for channels 4 and above.
Version 6.4 added a new function to the menu to record an .hds song to a .mid file. Previously, you had to install a midi loopback device driver and 3rd party software to do this. Also, there is a new field on the screen to change the Note OFF velocity.
Version 6.3 fixed a problem when selecting a new instrument. Previously, the program wouldn't actually change to the new instrument until you played an .HDS song. Now, when you select a new instrument, it immediately becomes the 'current' instrument so that if you click on the piano keyboard for instance, you'll hear the new instrument rather than the old one.
6.0 added the PolyDur Music editor function (picture below), which makes it really easy to create PolyDur syntax music files. Using this new function, I created Joni Mitchell's song 'Both Sides Now' in about an hour, and included it in the package. Also, the program was changed to ignore case when reading song files, so notes and other characters can now be entered in any case (case insensitive). Also, some bugs concerning the hammered dulcimer and fretboard image animations were fixed.
5.05 fixed a problem when converting an .hds file to a .mid file, where sometimes the last note(s) were dropped. Instructions for converting an .hds file to a .mid file were also improved.
5.04 added the ability for the program to change tempo's during the song, by inserting, for example, '[Tempo= 1/4 = 85]' in the [Notes] section of the .HDS file. In this case, it's telling the program to change the tempo to the equivalent of 85 quarter notes played per minute. Also, the key and time signature and tempo changes in all the included songs were corrected. Also, these songs were added to the package: 'Alla Turca', by Mozart, 'Praeludium and Allegro' by Kreisler, A medley of familiar Christmas songs, 'Exodus (Theme from)' by Ernest Gold, 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring' by Bach, 'Minuet in G', by Beethoven, 'Polonaise Opus 53' by Chopin, and 'Original Rags' by Scott Joplin.
5.03 added a warning if the # of Alternate endings doesn't equal the # of repeats in a Repeat Xx section. See readme.txt for details.
5.02 fixed a problem where, if a song has a lot of dotted notes and/or triplets, by the end of the song, the 3 fingers or hammers might become slightly out of sync by 1/32 note or so. Of the songs I included in the package, only Desperado had this problem, but other songs in the future might also, so I recommend you download this version, which fixes that anomaly.
5.0 Added many new enhancements to song writing, including variable note durations in chords, triplets, ties, & slurs, making it possible to enter most, if not all, western music exactly as it appears in the original score. 6 new .hds files were also added, including Bridge over Troubled Water, Desperado, and several classical pieces.
4.7 fixed several problems when selecting the midi input and output ports. Apparently, some soundcards don't have a default input port and the program had previously assumed there was one, which caused 'Invalid property value'. Another problem was that if the user selected 'Midi Mapper' as the output port, some might have received the error 'The device ID is out of range...'. Both those problems have now been fixed.
4.0 added the ability to load a hammered dulcimer map, similar to HDMapper.
3.2 added a guitar fretboard and instructions about how to also use banjo, mandolin, mountain dulcimer and others.
2.4 added the ability to change the midi sound to any of 128 different instruments (Dulcimer is #16), the ability to slow down the song when it's played to make it easier to learn, and the ability to vary the velocity, or intensity, with which each note is sounded and released.
2.0 added many enhancements, including a musical staff & scale.
