Making a map for Will's Gunship! Grid Editor

Here's a new, simpler way to make an editable mission map for use in Will's Gunship! Grid editor.

Images below are reduced in size.

  1. Make a blank map base (one time only) as detailed in the Editor manual.  This map base will be used for all future maps:

    (images are reduced in size)

  2. Open the mission for which you're making a map, in the mission editor.  Click the 'Show grid' button, then maximize both windows.
  3. In the map grid/editor window, click 'Regen' and ignore the prompts.
  4. Open your blank map base .bmp in the grid editor and specify that you do want to add grid lines.  You may have to experiment a bit, changing the color in the object toolbox until the grid lines show clearly against the map base.
  5. Now, save your new picture to disk as, say, 'Your mission.bmp':

  6. Open 'Your mission.bmp' in MS Paint.
  7. Copy and paste to MS Paint, the cropped aerial map screenprint you made earlier in Gunship! (see the Editor manual for how to make the cropped aerial screenprint).
  8. Move the pasted aerial map inside MS Paint over the map base until the map grid lines are aligned with the grid lines on the map base:

  9. Now, re-save from MS-Paint, and you're done!
  10. Open 'Your mission.bmp' in the grid editor but specify to not add grid lines.
