GIRLFRIEND by Lajla
Baby,
silly for me to feel this way About
you and her “Hey
Anna!” “Jesus,
Vikki! You scared the hell out of me!” – Anna said, he heart skipping
a beat, when her best friend, Victoria
came from behind and tapped her on the shoulder. Anna was sitting in a café,
in a world of her own. Vikki
laughed at the remark, obviously proud of herself. She sat down next to
Anna. “So,
what are you doing?” – she asked. “Nothing.
. . just thinking. . .” – Anna said looking somewhere in front of her.
Vikki looked the same way Anna
was looking and sighted. “You’re
thinking about Shane and her again, aren’t you?” “No,
of course not!” – she lied. Vikki looked at her, knowing she wasn’t
telling the truth. – “Alright, I was thinking
about them! I mean, just looked at them! What am I supposed to think?”
– she said, pointing at Shane and Cassandra, his best friend. Anna
and Shane were sitting in the café, when he spotted Cassandra sitting at
the other table, and went over to say hi. “C’mon,
Anna! You’re worrying yourself over nothing! They’re just friends!” “I
wanna believe that, but look at them! Look how she’s always touching him
and laughing at his jokes! And his
jokes aren’t THAT funny!” – she said and Vikki giggled at her
remark. “You’re
imagining things, Anna! They’re known each other since they were five
years old! They’ve been friends
long before you came in the picture! Don’t you think something
would’ve already happened if they wanted to?” – she looked at Anna,
who wasn’t really sure what to think. – “Besides, Cassandra has had
a boyfriend for over 2 and a half years now! And you guys have been
together for. . .what? A year?” “14
months.” – Anna said quietly. “There
you go! Now, come on! Cheer up and forget about it! Look, Shane’s coming
back, you don’t want him to
see you all worried like this!” Anna
looked at her, and Vikki gave her a little smile. “I
guess you’re right. I mean, Shane wouldn’t do that to me, right?” “Of
course he wouldn’t!” – Vikki smiled proudly that she managed to
convince her friend that she was talking
nonsense. “I’m
back!” – Shane said, sitting down. “So
I see!” – Anna smiled, giving him a light kiss on the lips. “Hi
Vikki! What are you doing here?” – Shane asked, realizing Vikki was
sitting next to Anna. “Oh
nothing, I was just going towards the exit, when I saw Anna. Anyway, I
gotta run now! Have a good time,
you two! I’ll call you tomorrow, Anna! Bye Shane, it was nice seeing you
again!” – she smiled, getting up. “Yeah,
you too!” – Shane called back, as Vikki turned around and left the café. “Cassandra
looks really pretty today.” – Anna suddenly blurted out. She didn’t
know what she wanted to achieve
by that. A part of her wanted Shane to admit he’s in love with
Cassandra, but the rationale part of her knew it would mean the end of
their relationship. “I
dunno, I suppose so.” – he said, taking a sip of his coffee, not even
looking at Cassandra. “She
has a beautiful hair. Don’t you think so?” – she wasn’t giving up. “I
guess so. Why are you asking?” – he asked, looking at her confused. He
didn’t know why was she asking him
these questions. “Dunno.
Just crossed my mind.” – she said, turning her head away. Shane
decided to leave it at that. He was
tired after spending the whole day in the studio with other guys recording
their new album. Talkin’
late on the phone ……
Shane’s and Anna’s apartment …… “I’ll
get it!” – Shane yelled as the phone rang that evening. – “Yes?
Oh, hi Cassie! What are you doing?” Anna’s
heart sank when she heard that name. Cassie. Shane was calling her Cassie
since the day they met. Anna hated the tone of his voice when he said her
name. He sounded so. . .sweet. And when he called Anna, it sounded so
ordinary. Or so she thought. Anna
sat on the sofa in the living room, while Shane was on the phone with
Cassie in their bedroom. She was flicking through the channels, and
finally stopped on CNN. ‘Why am I watching CNN? I never watch CNN!’,
she asked herself after half an hour of watching the news. She wasn’t
really concentrating on the TV, she was thinking about Shane and Cassie
again. What were they talking about? From time to time, she could hear
Shane’s laughter coming from the bedroom, which made her even more
curious. After
45 minutes, she couldn’t take it anymore. They were planning to spend
the night in, watching videos and eating popcorn, and just cuddling. It
was Shane’s idea. And now she calls, and he suddenly can’t get of the
phone! She
got up and went towards their bedroom. She knocked and slowly opened the
door. “Shane,
come watch the movie with me.” – she said, getting in, with an
insecure smile on her face. “You
go on, sweetheart, I’ll be there in 5 minutes. Let me just finish this
conversation with Cassie.” Anna
was just looking at him for few seconds, not sure what to think. She
turned around and walked out of the room, when she heard Shane’s voice
again- “Honey,
could you please close the door?” Anna
suddenly felt sick in her stomach, as she turned around again, and slammed
the door behind her. She felt like puking. She
went back to the living room and threw herself on the sofa, as tears
started appearing in the corner of her eyes. But she fought them back, she
didn’t want to cry. As much as it hurt her, she didn’t let herself
shed one tear. Just
as her eyes started getting drier, she could hear Shane’s footsteps
coming closer. I
think I'm jealous of your girlfriend “Honey,
are you okay?” – he asked her, as he sat next to her. “Yeah,
why wouldn’t I be?” – she smiled. She didn’t want Shane to suspect
anything. “Well,
you seemed pissed off or something. Has something happened?” “No,
nothing happened. I told you, I’m alright.” “Anna,
I know when you’re lying.” – she closed her eyes. Why did he had to
be so persistent? – “You’ll feel better
if you tell me what’s on your mind, and. . .” “Stop
it, Shane! I told you I’m alright! So, just drop it, okay??” Shane
looked at her surprised. That was the first time she ever raised her
voice. Anna
regretted she yelled at him the second she realized what she has done. “Anna,
I’m not leaving this room until you tell me what’s going on.” – he
said caring. “Fine,
the I’ll leave.” – she said getting up, but Shane grabbed her arm,
and sat her back down. She didn’t want
him to find out that she was jealous of Cassandra. “Talk
to me, Anna. Please.” – he said, practically pleading. Anna’s heart
sank in thousand little pieces when she
saw all that concern in his eyes. You
said that she's one well to see “You’ll
just end up hating me if I tell you.” – she said quietly after few
seconds. Her voice was trembling. “Baby,
how could you ever think that? I could never hate you! You know you can
tell me anything you want to!” Anna
looked at him. His beautiful green eyes were full of honesty. She took a
deep breath and said simply- “I’m
jealous.” “Jealous?
Of who?” – Shane was surprised. “Cassandra.”
– she looked up to see Shane’s reaction. He was just looking at her
not understanding. “Why
are you jealous of Cassie?” “Cos
of your relationship. And cos of what she means to you.” “What
do you mean? She’s my friend! You surely can’t be jealous of her!” “But
I am! I can’t help it! I see you two laughing and giggling, hugging each
other, whispering something.
. . .” – her vision was starting to get all blurry and her voice was
trembling. – “I’m scared of losing you.” – she finished quietly,
looking at him. “Honey,
you won’t lose me!” – Shane said, taking Anna’s hand in his, and
squeezing it softly. – “You don’t have
any reason to feel that Cassie is your rival or something! There’s
nothing, absoulutely NOTHING going on between us! She’s my friend,
nothing else!” “I
want to believe that, but I just can’t! I look at her, and she’s just
so. . .so beautiful. And I know I’m not
anything special, Shane. I’m aware of that. That’s why I’m afraid
I’d lose you over her.” – tears were slowly falling down her cheeks,
and she didn’t make any effort of wiping them away. “Anna,
you are the most beautiful girl I have ever laid my eyes on!” – Shane
couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
She never looked at Cassie like that. Never! – “I love you with every
bit of my body. And Cassie is like a little sister to me! I could never
have anything more than friendship with her!” - he looked deep into her
eyes. And
you say that you feel I
see it in your eyes To
even feel this way “Trust
me, sweetie. Cos it’s true.” – his lips formed into a gorgeous
smile. At
that moment, Anna realized Shane loved her, not Cassie. She realized all
her worries were for nothing. She shouldn’t have been threatened by
Cassie. “I
love you too, Shane. I’m sorry I ever doubted you.” Shane
answered her by hugging her tightly. . . “Okay,
so now that’s all settled, what are we gonna watch first? Titanic or
Armaggeddon?” – he asked, taking
the videotapes. “Titanic!
I love that movie!” Shane
put the video in the VCR and sat down next to Anna. He put his arms around
her, and kissed her head. And Anna put her head on his chest, and listened
to his heart beating. She soon drifted off to sleep, dreaming about
Shane’s gorgeous green eyes and his magical smile that could make the
roses bloom. . . Lyrics: Girlfriend by Alicia Keys
