WestFiction- "Should've Never" by Lajla

She was sitting on a bench in a park, watching a couple giggling, holding hands and exchanging sweet kisses, as she thought of what could’ve happened if the timing was different. Her thoughts were interrupted by someone hugging her from behind and placing a loving kiss on her neck. She smiled to herself at the thought of who it was.

- “Hey, baby.” – she said, as the man sat down next to her.

- “Oh love, I missed you so much.” – he said hugging her tightly.

- “Me too, Nicky.”

He looked at her and smiled. She forced herself to smile back at him, even though she didn’t feel like it. She knew she would break his heart soon.

- “So, what was it so important for you to tell me?” – he said, looking at her.

We can’t deny

At first, she didn’t say a thing. She was just looking at him, caressing his cheek. She asked herself when did all this happen? When did they fall in love? How did they fall in love so fast? It all happened so fast for her……too fast.

- “Baby……I’ve been talking to Robert.” – she started saying and he looked at her seriously. He knew what

was she about to say. – “Just hear me out, please. It’s hard enough as it is.” – she said and he just nodded. – “We talked till late in the night, and we opened our hearts to each other. We finally said what we really feel. And he told me he still loves me, even though he may not show it all that much.” – Nicky looked away, he couldn’t watch her as she was about to break his heart. And he knew that was exactly what would she do. Break his heart in thousand little pieces. Maybe she didn’t want to, but she was about to do it.

- “And you? Do you love him?” – he asked, looking at her, as she looked down at her hands.

- “I feel like I owe him something.”

- “Then that’s not love, baby.” – Nicky said caring. – “Don’t do this, please. Don’t do this to us.” – he said

pleading.

- “Do what? You don’t even know what am I about to say.”

- “I think I have a pretty good idea, Shannon.” – he said, taking her hands in his. – “But go on. I’ll listen.” –

he said, remembering Shannon always telling him how Robert was never listening to her. She smiled at him. Why did he have to be so sweet and caring? He was just making it harder for her. But she knew what she has to do. She owed it to Robert.

- “He……he said he wants me back. He want us to try again.”

- “Don’t tell me you’ll go back to him, Shan! Please.” – Nicky said desperately. He couldn’t risk losing the love

of his life over a man who didn’t deserve someone as perfect as Shannon was.

- “I owe him, Nicky. I have to.” – she said sadly.

- “You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to, sweetie. Please don’t do this to us cos of something like

this. Please, baby……” – he pleaded.

- “Honey, I feel like I have to. It’s just that……he was with me since I was 15, Nicky. I didn’t know what

was love until he showed me, until he taught me everything I needed to know about caring for someone. For God’s sake, we were together for 6 years, I can’t just throw it away like that. I just can’t.” – she said as a single tear fell down her cheek.

- “You can, if you really want it. Beside, you don’t have to throw it away! You can always treasure it in your

heart, but you don’t have to be with him. If you love me. I know I love you, with all my heart and soul, with every bit of my body. I guess the real question is, do you love me.” – he said backing off a bit.

- “Of course I love you, baby! More than anything on this planet! I know it will hurt, I know both of us will

suffer, but I need to do this, Nicky. Please understand. Please……”

- “I can’t, baby. I’m sorry, but I can’t. I can’t understand how can you throw our love away like it never

meant anything to you.”

- “Don’t say that, Nicky! You know I never felt this for anyone in my entire life! You know I love you deeply.

But I have to do this. I just have to. I’m sorry, baby. I’ll always love you, remember that.” – she said getting up and hugging him, as tears were rolling down her cheeks one by one. They just wouldn’t stop.

- “No, baby, don’t do it, please. Please……” – he said hugging her tightly, knowing this would be the last time

he would have her in his arms. The last time he would feel her warmth on his body. The last time we could feel her heart beating. And the last time they would become one……

- “I’m sorry, baby. It was wonderful while it lasted. But who were we kidding? Something as perfect as this

couldn’t last forever. Thank you for changing me, baby. I love you.” – she said, giving him the last kiss on the lips, as tears were falling down both her and his cheeks.

I’m so scared, trembling inside

Cos I’m feeling like somebody

Else already knows

I love you both so much

And to have to choose

Between the two

Is hurting me so deep inside

- “I love you, baby. I always will……” – he said, as she looked at him one last time.

And then she turned around as he watched her walk out of his life forever…… He just stood there, until he could see her no more……
