SOMETHING LIKE YOU

by Lajla

-

So many times I thought

I hold it in my hands
But just like grains of sand
Love slipped through my fingers

-          “Another failure, Feehily.” – Mark said to himself, sighting, as he threw himself on the bed. It was the

third time in two months he was dumped. He was always hoping to find that special girl, the one, someone with who he could spend the rest of his life with. But every girl he went out with, either dumped him or was a real psycho. He was starting to think there was something wrong with him. Why couldn’t he find a normal girl? A girl who would love him and who would want to grow old with him. Was that too much to ask for? He was slowly losing hope in finding that girl.

So many nights I asked the Lord above
Please make me lucky enough

To find a love that lingers
Something keeps telling me

That you could be my answered prayer
You must be heaven sent

I swear, cos...

Mark slowly sat on the bed and turned the TV on, just to get his mind of the last girl who dumped him. He was flicking through the channels, trying to find something decent to watch. That’s when he saw her. Short, shiny brown hair, beautiful green eyes, the most incredible smile he ever saw……she was the girl he always imagined to be with! He could feel it in his heart that she was special. But there was only one problem.

-          “How the hell am I gonna find out who she is??” – Mark said out loud.

He sat there for a few moments, deep in his thoughts, when he suddenly got up and ran out of the house. He had to find that girl, no matter what it took.

Soon, he found himself standing outside the TV station. He got in and went straight to the man standing by the camera.

-          “Excuse me.” – the man turned around. – “I was wondering if you can help me with something. This may

sound like I’m some kind of psycho or something, but I’m not!” – Mark smiled nervously. The man just kept looking at him confused. – “Can you tell me the name of the girl working her, she has short brown hair, green eyes, wonderful smile, she about 5’10……well, she’s gorgeous!”

The camera man laughed at Mark.

-          “Sure, mate! Her name is Val. Well, actually, Valentine, but we all call her Val. She should be here any

minute now. You can stick around if you wanna!”

-          “Thanx a lot, I really appreciate it!” – the grin on Mark’s face just wouldn’t come off.

-          “No problem, mate!”

Just as Mark turned around, she came in. He was hypnotised by her beauty.

-          “God! She’s even more beautiful in person!” – he didn’t think it was possible to be more gorgeous than Val

was. His whole world stopped the second she stepped in.

Val was looking around the studio, when he saw a tall, dark-haired guys standing in the corner, looking straight at her. She smiled at him. That was enough for Mark to make him feel dizzy.

Something happens when you look at me

I forget to speak
Something happens when you kiss my mouth

My knees get so weak
Could it be true

Is this what God has meant for me?
Cos baby I can't believe

That something like you

Could happen to me

When Val was done with she was doing, Mark knew it was now or never. He had to go talk to her.

-          “Hi, my name is Mark” – he said once he reached her.

-          “Nice to meet you, I’m Val.” – she smiled. That smile made Mark dizzy once again. And just as she was

about to walk away, Mark knew he had to do something, he couldn’t let her go just like that.

-          “Erm……I……” – Mark was suddenly speechless. And that was something that never happened to him. – “I

saw you on TV this afternoon, and……erm……I just had to come and……well, meet you.” – she smiled. – “I was hoping that maybe we could grab a cup of coffee or something.” – he said, his eyes full of hope.

-          “I’d love to, but I have so much to do.”

-          “It would only take half an hour, at the most!” – Mark was desperate. Now that he met her, he was even

more certain she was the one.

Val looked at him. She only met him few minutes ago. She didn’t know how smart was it to go out with a stranger.

-          “Alright. Let me just tell them I’m going out.” – she finally agreed. Mark was so happy, and he didn’t hide

it. He had a huge grin all over his face all the way to the pub.

They got to know each other more, and realized they have a lot in common. Mark was positive she was the girl he had been looking all along, but he knew he mustn’t scare her away.

Val was very fond of Mark, she really liked him. She loved the way he gets  so happy about the tiniest things. It was strange, but she felt safe around him. It was something she never felt before with anyone else. And she liked that feeling of safety. It mad her feel as if no-one could ever hurt her.

Girl in your eyes I feel your fire burn
Oh, your secrets I will learn
Even if it takes forever
With you by my side I can do anything
I don't care what tomorrow brings

As long as we're together
My heart is telling me

That you could be my meant to be
I know it more each time we touch
Cos...

They started dating soon, and Mark was in heaven. He couldn’t believe God answered his prayers by bringing Val to him. She was all he ever needed in life.

They would be lying in bed for hours, just looking at each other. He used to look at her beautiful green eyes, which were the doors to her caring soul, her perfect little nose, so kissable lips, lips which he couldn’t live a day without. Her shiny brown hair, her beautiful body. He loved it when she caressed his cheeks with her gentle, fragile little hands. Every time she was near him, he felt an urge to hug her tightly and never let go of her.

Something happens when you look at me

I forget to speak
Something happens when you kiss my mouth

My knees get so weak
Could it be true

Is this what God has meant for me?
Cos baby I can't believe
That something like you

Could happen to me

And Val was so happy with Mark. She felt as though everything she ever searched for in a man, she found in Mark. She couldn’t believe her luck! She was just so sick of being hurt, dumped and she was sick of broken heart. She didn’t know why, but she trusted him totally, and she felt she could tell him anything without a fear that he would laugh at her or just walk away. And Val loved that feeling. She felt safe, cos she had a man she loved and who loved her back, right by her side. There was nothing else she wanted in life, ever since she met Mark, that day when he came to where she works.

Something magical (something magical)
Something spiritual (something spiritual)
Something stronger than the two of us alone
Something physical
Something undeniable (undeniable)
Nothing like anything (anything)

That I've ever known
Cos...

Neither of them knew why, but they felt really connected to each other. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally, too. When they were together, they didn’t even have to say one word, they knew what the other thinks. Val would start the sentence and Mark would fill in. It was magic between them. Not to mention love and emotions.

Something happens when you look at me

I forget to speak
Something happens when you kiss my mouth

My knees get so weak
Could it be true

Is this what God has meant for me?
Cos baby I can't believe
That something like you

        -      “I still can’t believe this.” – Mark said out of the blue one evening, while they were relaxing in front of the TV, in each other’s arms.

-          “Can’t believe what?”

-          “You. All this.” – he said looking around. – “I can’t believe God finally answered my prayers.”

-          “And what prayers would that be?” – she asked cheekily.

-          “You. You are my answered prayer, baby.” – he said kissing her. – “I love you.”

-          “I love you, too.” – she said returning the kiss. It was strange, even after all this time since they were

together, she still couldn’t help but feel butterflies in her tummy when he kissed her. The first and last time when she felt that way was when she was 13, when she got her first kiss. She didn’t know how she knows it, but it was right. It was so right, she couldn’t imagine being with anyone else beside Mark anymore.

Mark looked at Val. She looked so cute when she was deep in her thoughts, those beautiful green eyes had a spark in them, a twinkle, whenever she smiled. And he couldn’t imagine his life anymore without her in it. It might have been soppy, and to be honest, Mark never thought he would be saying things like that. But there he was, few months after his last girlfriend dumped him, in the arms of the one he loved and cherished more than life itself. He just couldn’t believe his luck. How could someone as beautiful and as caring as Val, happen to him? He just couldn’t understand it. But he didn’t argue with that. He finally found the love of his life, and he had a feeling they would be together forever. And his feelings were never wrong……

He kissed her lightly one last time before they pulled the sheets over their heads, where they made love, leaving the TV on and not caring about a single thing in the world, cos nothing else mattered to them, as long as they got each other……
