SAME OLD BRAND NEW YOU by Lajla
- I
can still remember the time you were there -
“Val, as much as I love you, I can’t take this anymore!” –
Mark was yelling at his girlfriend of 3 months, Valentine
after a night out. He was repeating himself for the second time in two
months. -
“What did I do this time?!” – Val said innocently, trying to
defend herself. -
“You might wanna ask what DIDN’T you do!” – he was getting
furious. Was she just pretending she doesn’t understand
or she honestly wasn’t aware of her actions? – “You flirt with every
guy that walks by you! And I can’t stand it anymore!” -
“Baby, that’s not true.” – she walked over to him, and put
her hand on his cheek, caressing it. She knew he was
never able to resist her touch. And she was right. Mark found himself
closing his eyes and just enjoying the feeling of her touching him. –
“You know I would never do that you.” – Mark realized what was she
doing and snapped out of it. He took a step back. -
“No, I put up with it for 3 months, and I can’t do it anymore!
Don’t I mean anything to you, Val? Our love? Doesn’t
it mean a thing to you?” – Mark could hear his voice trembling. You'll
change Never
gonna keep your promises Never
gonna keep your promises Val
sighted. She knew he was right. Even though she really did care for him,
she just couldn’t control her actions, as much as she tried to. She was
always flirty, always wanting to be in the centre of attention. But not in
a bad way. She just liked to be noticed. She was beautiful, and she was
well aware of it. And she didn’t see anything wrong with that. But now,
it didn’t affect just her, it also affected Mark, the man she loved, as
well as their relationship. -
“You mean a lot to me, Mark. I love you deeply, but it’s just
the way I am.” – she sighted. -
“And I’m supposed to just accept the fact that you practically
throw yourself at every guy that even makes
an eye contact with you?” -
“No, of course you shouldn’t.” – she sighted again and said
quietly – “I’ll change.” - she never even dreamed she’d
ever say something like that to a guy. To change for somebody? No, she
always swore to herself she wouldn’t change for anyone, let alone for
some guy. But there she was, saying those words she was positive she’d
never say, to the only man she loved. -
“You will?” – Mark asked surprised and Val nodded. – “Oh,
honey! You’ve just made me the happiest person on
this planet! I love you so much, baby, and we’re gonna be just fine.”
– he said hugging her, and giving her a smile on the forehead. But
there was a storm going inside her heart, cos she knew it would be
impossible for her to change. Or it would take a lot of hard work. But she
loved Mark, and was prepared to do anything for him. He made her feel save
and loved. You
said you'd change ……
the next Saturday …… -
“Oh, friend of mine is here!” – Val said the next Saturday
while she and Mark were sitting in a pub with the
rest of their friends. She spotted another male friend of hers sitting at
the other table and decided to go over and say hi. – “I’ll just be a
second.” – she said to Mark, getting up. Mark
watched every move she made and he saw her walking over to her friend and
grinning while they shook hands. That guy must’ve said something funny,
cos Val laughed and hugged him. A sudden rush of jealousy went through
Mark’s body as he watched her girlfriend getting all flirty with some
guy again. But he just kept sitting, following her every move with his
eyes. He watched her laughing with that guy, touching him on the arm,
shoulder, even chest, he watched her straightening his shirt, and running
her fingers through his hair. But then the guy put his hand on Val’s
waist and that was it, Mark couldn’t take it anymore. He got up
furiously and went straight over to Val, grabbing her arm and started
dragging her towards the exit. -
“Hey, what the hell are you doing??” – Val asked surprised,
while Mark kept dragging her towards the exit,
without saying a word. – “Mark, answer me!! What’s going on??” -
“How can you even ask me what’s going on??” – he yelled
once they were in front of the pub. – “You were all
over him, touching him everywhere!! What do you think how did I feel??”
- Val suddenly went quiet, realizing the reason why Mark got furious. -
“I’m. . .I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking. . .” -
“Yes, that’s right! You weren’t thinking!” – he sighted
and turned his back to Val. – “God, Val, why are you hurting
me so much?” – he said quietly after few seconds. Same
old line, one more time (You
know it doesn't turn me on) (You're
singing that same old song) (If
you don't wanna find me gone, gone, gone, gone, gone) -
“I don’t know. . .I don’t mean to, Mark. You gotta believe
me!” – she sounded desperate, as Mark turned around
to face her again. – “I honestly love you with all my heart, and I
don’t want to lose you!” -
“I don’t want to lose you either, but you can’t keep acting
like this anymore. It’s tearing us apart, baby.” – Val
could swore she saw a tear forming in Mark’s eye. But he blinked a few
times, as the tear disappeared again. -
“I know. . I’m sorry, sweetie. I swear to God this will never
ever happen again! Please. . .” – she wasn’t ready
to lose him. – “Give me one more chance.” Mark
looked at her, looking at him, her eyes begging him to give her another
chance. How could he say no to those beautiful green eyes, which had a
special twinkle in them. A twinkle which made him fall in love with her.
And when he got to know her, that was it. He was hooked. She was like a
drug to him. Something he couldn’t live without. He didn’t even want
to try. Val
was getting nervous, cos Mark wasn’t saying anything. She didn’t know
what was he thinking. But then she noticed a little smile playing on his
lips, as he hugged her. Val let out a sight of relief. -
“Thank you, baby! I promise I won’t let you down.” – she
whispered to him. -
“I know you won’t, honey.” – Mark wasn’t so sure in his
words. He wanted to believe everything would finally
be alright, but something was telling him otherwise. ……
3 weeks later …… -
“Sweetie, are you ready?” – Mark yelled from downstairs that
Friday. They were going to Shane’s birthday
party, and they were already running late. -
“Yeah, I’ll be right down!” – she yelled back from their
bedroom. 3
weeks passed by and everything was alright. Val changed her attitude, and
they were both happily in love with each other. As
soon as they go to the house where the party was being held, Mark went
over to say hi to his band mates, and Val saw Kerry and Georgina and
started talking to them. Everything was going great, they were both
enjoying each other. Mark would eventually look at her direction, and she
would smile at him just to reassure him that everything was perfect. Another
night, another day When
the clock read 3am, Mark was in the middle of telling a joke to few of his
friends and they were having a good time. Suddenly, they could hear a
glass breaking, and entire room, including Mark, turned their eyes towards
the corner where the noise was coming from. At first, Mark watched like he
was bewitched, not wanting to believe what he saw. But he knew his eyes
weren’t fooling him, as he quickly closed his eyes and blinked a few
times, hoping all of it would go away. But it was still there. The picture
he tried to forget for so long. Val was obviously drunk, and she was all
over some guy, who didn’t mind getting the attention of such a beautiful
girl. When the whole room went quiet, Val stopped laughing, and looked at
them. -
“What’s going on? Who turned off the music?” – she asked
drunk. Nobody
dared to make any comments, cos every single person in the room was a
friend of Mark’s and they didn’t want him to feel even more
uncomfortable than he already felt. You'll
change You'll
never change Never
gonna keep your promises Never
gonna keep your promises Mark
was suddenly brought back to reality by someone patting him on the
shoulder, like he was saying ‘It’s alright.’ But Mark knew it was
never gonna be okay again. He knew this was the end. He
hurried towards the corner where Val was standing with that guy, and once
again, grabbed her arm and dragged her out of the house. He could feel
everyone staring at the two of them, but he didn’t care about them. He
only cared about Val. He felt so many emotions at that moment. He was
angry, cos of the way she acted in front of everybody, but he was also sad
cos he knew this was probably the end of their relationship. And then a
sudden feeling of jealousy rushed through his body, as he remembered the
guy enjoying Val’s touch. The feeling of fear didn’t fail to occur,
either. He was frightened something might have happened to Val while she
was drunk, not being aware of her actions. That guy could have easily used
her. All those feelings and thoughts were going through Mark’s mind, as
he was making his way out of the house, dragging Val behind him. Because
of you, I guess we're through A
fool for you But
I've got better things to do -
“How could you?” – he asked simply, once they were on the
parking lot. Val was sober by the time they reached
their car. -
“I dunno. . .I was drunk.” – her head was aching. She
didn’t have the guts to look him in the eye, cos she realized
what she’s done. -
“Oh, and that should make it alright?” -
“No, of course not. I. . .I don’t know what to say to you,
Mark.” – their eyes finally met. – “I blew it. I’m aware
of that. And I know you must hate me now. . .” – she was crying. -
“I don’t hate you, Val. I just don’t understand why you did
this to me again. All of my friends were there! Do
you have any idea how did I feel when I saw everybody staring at you,
knowing you’re the girl I love? Do you?” – he said calmly. There was
no yelling this time. Perhaps because he sensed this would be their last
fight. -
“I’m sorry. That’s all I have to say. You know I would never
do a thing like that if I was sober, Mark!” – her
eyes were begging once again. – “I never meant to hurt you, trust me!
There’s no excuse for what I’ve done. And I know there’s nothing I
can say or do that would make it all right again. So, I’m just gonna say
what’s in my heart, and that is that I’m sorry, and I hope you won’t
hold it against me. I hope everything can be the way it used to be.” –
she finished, even though she could feel Mark won’t give in this time.
Something in her heart was telling her this was the end of their lives
together. Same
old line, one more time (You
know it doesn't turn me on) (You're
singing that same old song) (If
you don't wanna find me gone, gone, gone, gone, gone) -
“I don’t think it can, Val.” – there was a tear slowly
falling down his cheek. Val never saw him cry before. – “I’m
sorry, but this was the last time. All of my friends were in there, and
you were doing all those things you promised you won’t do anymore. I’m
sorry, baby. This it the end. . .” – he looked down. -
“But I don’t want to lose you. . .” – a soft whisper could
be heard. -
“You just did, sweetheart. . .” – tears were now freely
falling down his cheeks, and he didn’t make any effort
of wiping them away. He turned around and slowly started walking away,
leaving Val on the parking lot. He could hear her crying, and as much as
his heart was telling him to turn around and go back to her, to hug her
and tell her everything would be alright, his mind was telling him to keep
walking, cos he knew he would end up being hurt even more if he went back
to her. He thought he was doing the right thing by walking away. He
thought it would be better for both of them. Mark
never stopped loving Val, but he learned to live his life without her
beautiful green eyes, gorgeous smile which he loved so much, her warm
heart, and her loving soul. It was hard, but he knew he would always love
her, and she would always love him. They just didn’t have the same
characters. She was wild, she loved to party and enjoy life while she was
still young, and she wasn’t worrying about a thing in the world. But he
was more relaxed, more quieter, shier and couldn’t tamed her wild heart,
as much as he tried to. But when they were together, they were a lethal
combination. There was some chemistry between the two of them, which even
people just by watching them could feel. Even though they both knew deep
down in their hearts that they need to go their separate ways, they also
knew their love for each other would never fade away. . . Another
night, another day Lyrics: Same Old Brand New You by A1
