LET ME LET GO

by Lajla

-

I thought it was over, baby

We said out goodbyes

But I can’t go a day

Without your face

Goin’ through my mind

In fact, not a single minute
Passes without you in it

She was sitting on a bench in a quiet park. There was nothing but dark and silence around her.

She was, once again, thinking about him. Her biggest pain, and yet her greatest love. Not a day passed by that something didn’t remind her of him. Her heart wouldn’t let go of him, of the man she loved so much, the man that was no longer hers. It was those little things that were most painful, she used to remember all those days they spent together. The way they used to watch the sunrise together, how he used to hold her in his strong arms, and how she felt so secure in that moment, like nothing and no-one could ever break them apart. Never once did she thought all this could end so quickly.

Your voice, your touch

Memories of your love

Are with me all the time

Let me let go, baby

Let me let go

If this is for the best

Why are you still in my heart

Are you still in my soul

Let me let go

As she was sitting on the bench all alone, she closed her eyes and started remembering his touch, his voice, his breath on her neck as he was telling her he loves her, his soft kisses, his love…… All those memories came back to her. And no matter how painful they were, she still wanted to remember them, forever.

She thought about how they used to take long walks down the beach, and how they used to sit down on the very bench she was sitting on. And how they used to exchange sweet words, words of never ending love. Words she thought would last forever.

But she wasn’t feeling so sad because he left her for someone else. They had a long talk, and finally decided they should break up. That those feelings they had for each other were no longer love. Maybe it was love, but they loved each other as friends, and not lovers. Or so she thought……

Only after he walked out of her life forever, did she realize she still loves him as more than just a friend. But it was too late now…… and she knew that.

I talked to you the other day

Looks like you made your escape

You put us behind

No matter how hard I try

I can’t do the same

Let me let go, baby

Let me let go

Suddenly, she looked up, and there he was. With some woman. Danielle couldn’t believe her eyes. Was it really him? Or was it just her heart wanting to see him again, to hold him, to kiss him. It took a while before her eyes adjusted to the darkness, and now she could see clearly. It was him, her true love, her Mark. And he was with some blond girl, they were laughing, hugging, kissing, whispering, giggling……all those things Danielle once used to do with him. She couldn’t take it anymore, she got up and ran. Ran, until her legs hurt and she couldn’t run anymore. As she stopped, she looked around. She was on the beach. She sat down on the sand, and brought her knees to her chest. She buried her head in her knees, and only seconds later, soft, muffled sobs could be heard. She was, once again, crying over him, over Mark. Over a man she once could call hers, but not anymore……he belonged to someone else now……

It just isn’t right

I’ve been two thousand miles

Down a dead-end road

Let me let go, darlin’

Won’t you?

I just gotta know, yeah

If this is for the best

Why are you still in my heart

Are you still in my soul

Let me let go

As she was crying, all kind of thoughts and questions crossed her mind. How could she be so stupid to let go of him? To let go of her one and only true love? Her greatest love? To let go of the man that completed her? Why did she do it? Even though her mind was telling her it was the right thing to do, her heart was still aching. Aching for him. Her mind let him go, but her heart didn’t. As she looked up, she saw the sun starting to rise. It only brought her more sadness, it brought her painful memories. Memories she tried to forget. Memories her heart wouldn’t let go of. Tears were freely falling down her cheeks, as she asked herself that famous question. A question she didn’t know the answer to……

-          “Why?”

The lights of this strange city

Are shinin’

But they don’t hold
No fascination for me

I try to find the bright side, baby

But everywhere I look

Everywhere I turn

You’re all I see

Let me let go, baby
Let me let go

She closed her eyes as sweet music filled her heart. Music no-one but her could hear. Music that was playing in her soul. It was the music of love, a painful love. She closed her eyes, as the picture of his sweet smile, beautiful blue eyes, his soft heart, and his loving soul appeared in front of her……

-          “Why, Mark? Why won’t you let me let go?”

She said to the breeze she felt on her skin, while two tears made their way down her cheeks……
