I THOUGHT SHE KNEW

by Rae

"She was my once in lifetime

Happy ending come true

Oh, I guess I should've told her

But I thought she knew..."

Mark slumped over in the chair and let the tears flow freely. She was a beautiful girl, and she meant the world to him. They had met through mutual friends. He was infatuated with everything about her. The way she walked, the way she smiled, the way she did that cute little things with her eyebrows when she was mad at him. Everything about her intrigued him. He was overwhelmed by her on an everyday basis. Every moment he spent with her he cherished. He looked forward to hearing her voice in the morning, the same thing put him to sleep at night. She was the only thing that kept him sane through all the madness. He loved her more then he could even comprehend. He depended on her, she was his once in a lifetime.

"She said I took her for granted

It's the last thing I would do

Oh, I'll never understand it

I thought she knew..."

She felt neglected. She had to, he wasn't around to take care of her. He wasn't there to plead his love to her day in and day out, like she had wanted. She thought he took advantage of his situation and chose to leave her behind, and take her for granted. His job had pulled him in a million directions, and as much as he loved her, he couldn't give up his dreams. She would never let him do that anyway. But there was one other thing he couldn't do ... he couldn't tell her how much he loved her. She wanted, needed, to hear those words from him. She was always there for him, she tried to give him everything, but he couldn't just say those words to her.

"I thought she knew my world

Revolved around her

My love light burned for her alone

But she couldn't see the flame

Only myself to blame

I should have known, I should have known.

I thought she knew my world

Revolved around her

My love light burned for her alone

But she couldn't see the flame

Only myself to blame

I should have known, I should have known..."

No matter how many times he attempted to tell her, something was holding him back. He was too scared. He was overwhelmed by all the feelings that rushed through his body. And if he couldn't handle it, how would he expect her to. Most of all he couldn't find the strength within himself to let her know that she meant the world to him. To let her know that whatever he was doing, he was doing it for her. But he didn't worry too much about it, he assumed she already knew...she had to...

"A heart full of words left unspoken

Now that we're through

I'd sell my soul

To have this silence broken

I thought she knew

I thought she knew

I thought she knew my world revolved around her

My love light burned for her alone

But she couldn't see the flame

Only myself to blame

I should have known

I should have known..."

Instantly, there was nothing left for him to do. She was gone. She left him, deserted him in his pool of misery. He didn't know what to do...lifeless. She meant everything to him, yet he never told her. Never told her how happy she made him, how every thought he came up with was about her, how much control she had over him, and most importantly how much he loved her. It would've been one simple step to have just told her three little words. None of this would've happened if he could've just opened his mouth and his heart and told her. But ... he thought she knew.

"She was my once in a lifetime

Happy ending come true

Oh, I guess I should have told her

But I thought she knew

I thought she knew

I thought she knew

I thought she knew

Ooohhhhhh

Ooohhhhhh

I thought that she knew."
