If You Love Something...> epilogue

Samantha woke up due to pain and groaned. She wished her whole body will stop aching. Plus, she was hungry but any sight of food made her nauseous, another of the many effect of the medications. At least she needed to take it for a few more days. A quick glance to her clock revealed it was ten in the morning. She tried to think of pleasant things to take her mind of the discomfort.

She didn’t mean to fall asleep last night, she thought if she closed her eyes for awhile it would reenergize her. She turned and beheld Mark. Sometimes she wondered if this was real. She traced his rough jaw with the back of her hand.

She was lucky, she concluded. She was thankful for whatever life offered her. She had her health, her career which she struggled to put up and was temporarily on hold. Joshua, her brother whom she adored. Bryan and Ashley, the truest friends she could ever find. Rowen, a very special friend whom she loved in her own way. Yvonne, Christopher and Maya, for just being as innocent as children were. And Mark. Mark, the boy next door, her best friend, the man she loved, part of her being, her soul mate. Looking back, the tough times weren’t as bad as it seemed at that time. In fact it made it all worthwhile.

She grazed his cheeks and stopped when his dimple deepened. She looked up and found him gazing intently at her. She smiled back at him. They were to marry in spring. She was glad and relived when Mark told her that he didn’t want a media circus for the wedding. It was nobody’s business than the people that mattered, was his exact words. Hence it was settled the ceremony would be held in a chapel in Sligo with only close family.

He grabbed her hand, kissed her palm and placed it over his heart. “Now sleep. You need rest.” This time she didn’t argue and snuggled closer for his warmth. She felt his thudding heartbeat flowing through her veins. What Mark didn’t realize and probably never know was that he gave her a sense of belonging. Something she was searching for all her life, and it was with her all along.

Home. In every sense of the word. Mark gave her a place called home.
