[PG-13]

DON'T LET ME BE THE LAST TO KNOW

by Toni

My friends say you’re so into me

And that you need me desperately

They say you say we’re so complete

But I need to hear it straight from you

I’ve been waiting for so long, it hurts

I wanna hear you say the words, please…

“Hey, Melissa Dorkhead!”  I heard the Populars call me.  I earned the ‘Dorkhead’, ‘Bookworm’, and ‘Geek’ names because…I don’t know.  I mean, I’m an exchange student from America originally from Yale.  Some say I have a big brain and don’t do anything except read, study and write.  Well, what else could I do?  I don’t know anybody, nobody wants to talk to me, and as they say, I’m a geek!  But I do have some friends.  Let see… 3 fellow geeks, my guy seatmate, papers, pens, and my tin pipe…and that’s about it!

Howdy!  I’m Melissa Jean David.  I’m from Montana and I used to study at Yale.  My parents found a new job here in Ireland so we moved here.  We plan to change our citizenship from American to Irish because their work and my study require it.  I’m a consistent 1st honor or Dean's lister.  Before I left Yale 3 years ago, I graduated high school batch valedictorian.  Then, I home studied for 2 years then here I am.  First, I looked forward to new friends but things didn’t turn out as I expected it.  Hmmm… what else, my parents say I’m beautiful and sexy but…well, they’re my parents…of course.

“Hey, Bookworm!  What are you gonna do for the Prom?  Wiggle your way out?” Britney, the most popular, but God so flirtatious girl shouted.  She and her friends, Christie, Jesse and Jenna laughed their hardest.  Little do they know that I know that they, too, have no dates for Prom.  They only want one guy for their date, the school heartthrob Kian Egan, my seatmate and a good friend of mine.

“No!  Besides, I don’t even care!  I’m not going!” I shouted back.  I don’t know really if I’m going or not.  I have no date because no guy wants me, I don’t have anything to wear, and I’m scared to just sit there and sip punch or juice or whatever.  My 3 other pals, Billie, Valentine, and Rona already have dates.  Almost all the lads and lassies in our class have someone.  Even Kian… I think.  But anyways, heck, why am I talking about Kian?  I mean he’s not my crush… but he is kinda my type.

The bell rang signaling us to go to our rooms.  I entered our room finding no one except Kian sitting on his chair and his backpack on the chair beside him.  I approached him quietly planning to scare him from behind.  He’s a great guy so I’m not intimidated or scared when I get close to him.  As I got closer, my heart went faster.  “Hi Kian!  You’re early today!”

He almost jumped on his seat.  He laughed and smiled at me.  He’s so gorgeous when he smiles.  But again, I’m not falling for him.  “Gosh, Lisa, you scared the shit out of me,” he said with his accent.  He put his backpack on the floor.  “Here, I want you to sit beside me.”

I sat beside him.  “Sorry!” I said.  He smiled again.  Ooh!  Makes me wanna melt on my seat.  “Whatcha doing?  Homework?”  I looked over his shoulder.

He covered it right away.  He quickly stuttered, “No no!  It’s just a…um… letter to my…uh…relatives in Dublin.  That’s all, no big deal.”  Then he put it in his bag.  He turned towards me.  “So, any special plans for the Prom next week?  Partner?  Or gimmick?”

“No.  I don’t know if I can come.  I mean, I have nothing to wear, not sure what to look like and no partner!  Why would I go?  How about you?”

“You’re not going?  Too bad,” he said with a low voice.  “I was just gonna…” he was cut short when our other classmates entered the room in couples.

“We’ll talk later, okay, Kian?”  I asked.  He nodded and we waited for the teacher.  My other seatmate was still not there.  Good!  Coz you know who she was?  It’s Britney Carmichaels, my archenemy.  Whilst we were waiting for Ms. Allen, I took out my small sketchbook and tried to finish my drawing.  It was the great Montana forest scenery where I used to run through back when I was a little girl.  Kian looked towards me and noticed me drawing.

He leaned over and asked, “Now, now, miss.  What are you drawing there?”  His eyes were sparkling and his after-shave was marvelous.

“Oh nothing.  Just the ol’ great outdoor wilderness of my hometown Montana.  I’m just about finished,” then I fixed some shadow on the trees and the little cabin.  “There!”

He scrutinized my drawing and said, “Wow!  You have some talent on this!  Is it really this beautiful back there?  I mean we have trees and forests here in Ireland but not this big.  Wow!”

“Yeah!  I love it there!  We lived in a cabin just like that since I was born until I was old enough to study in a primary school.  I was just planning to spend the weekend in Hazelwoods and sketch some scenery there besides I’m not going to the Prom.”

“Oh I see,” he said with that sad, low voice again.  Every time I cook up the Prom thing, he just does that.  “Do you want to go back to Montana?”

“I love to.  But unfortunately, I can't anymore for 5 years because in 3 weeks time, my family and I are officially Irish people,” I said in the best accent that I can.  He laughed.

“That was good!  Not bad!” he laughed.  Then Ms. Popular came in and sat beside me.  She saw Kian and I talking.  As usual, she got jealous because I’m the only girl Kian talks to anytime.

“Hi Kian!” she said in the most flirtatious voice she could ever possibly apply.  “Any dates for the Prom?”

“Hehe, hi, Brit.  Good morning!” Kian said with a face.  They turned away from each other because Ms. Allen entered the room ready for our first subject… Math!

As usual, the 3 major subjects were drags.  Math, Science and the big test in Irish and French!  But, I got the perfect score!  Brit got just 5 points above passing and Kian… well; he got the perfect score as well.  But we didn’t cheat!  I must say, he’s pretty good in Irish and I’m good in French because I used to study that in my previous years.  For 3 ½ hours we sat there like vegetables cooking under the lifeless fire of an oven.  When the professor, Mr. Simms, gave us free time, all of us looked intently at the wall clock and counted the seconds until 9:30, break time!  5 seconds…4…3…2…1…at last!  The bell rang.

All of us ran outside the classroom to the cafeteria.  I ran along myself.  I remembered I had to talk to Kian.  As I was turning around, a pair of muscular arms wrapped around me just bellow my breasts.  I nearly screamed…but luckily, I didn’t.    I turned around and saw Kian looking devilishly at me.  “Kian!” I shouted at him.  “What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”

“It’s just for this morning!” Kian laughed.  “Nothing personal!”

I was furious at him!  It’s not fair!  He scared the living daylights out of me!  I slapped him and ran away.  He went after me but I’m just too fast for him.  I went in line in the cafeteria with teary eyes.  I bought 2 small brownies, Coke and an apple.  Just that is enough for me.  I sat behind a huge oak tree and ate quietly.  I thought about what I did.  “Was that right?” I asked myself.  I shouldn’t have been too hard on him.  I sat there, thinking.

Then when I was at the point of going nowhere, a sweet voice popped behind me.  I looked over my shoulder… it was Kian.  “Hi Lisa!” He sat beside me.  He looked glum and sad.  I moved an inch away.

“Hey Kian!” I answered.  I’m not sure what to say to him.  “Say, Ki, I’m sorry I slapped you a while ago.  I guess I’m just carried away.”

“Yeah.  I’m sorry, too.  It’s all my fault; you don’t have to be sorry.”  I looked at him with pitiful eyes.  He looked back at me and we smiled at each other.  “Lisa…” he said.

“Yes Kian?”  We inched closer to each other.  I bit my lips.  I looked deeply into his eyes until I got lost.

“Can I ask you to be my date this Prom night?” he said.  I can feel his fresh breath against my nose.

“Yes, Kian.  Yes…” I whispered.  I closed my eyes.  The next thing I knew, Kian’s lips were covering mine.  He was a great kisser; he massaged my lips endlessly.  I don’t want to embarrass myself so I kissed him back.  After a long minute, we parted and blushed.  I was really speechless.  I was never kissed that way before.  I just said, “Whoa!  You kiss well.  Say, I have to go now.  Now that I’m going, I have to think of what to wear.  See ya!”   And I quickly ran back to the classroom.  I sat there with some other lassies and lads talking about the Prom.  They approached me and I tried to make friends.

“Hi Lisa!  Who’s your partner this Prom night?” a guy named Steve asked me.

“Yeah!  We want to know!  By the way, you and Kian are always close.  Do you know who his Prom date is?” a girl named Bethany said.

“Well…” I started, “I’m going to the Prom, just like you guys.  And my partner’s Kian!”

All of them we’re like “How did you make him date you?” and “Did he ask you first?” and “What are your plans?”  Before I could answer, Britney came in with her 3 ‘mouseketeers’.  “Well, well, well, what do we have here?” she said.

I know almost all of our classmates especially Dana hate her.  She said, “Oh nothing.  Just Kian’s real Prom date.  Ass!”

Her boyfriend, Jade, backed her up, “You liar!  You said Kian asked you to be his date.”  She told everyone that Kian was her date.  But in truth, as Kian told me over the phone, “I really hate her.  She’s like a slut or something.”

The girls in my class started shouting at her… even Christie, Jesse, and Jenna.  The boys began hooing.  Then Kian came in.  As if he’s some kind of a hall guard, everything went into complete silence.  “What’s happening here?” he said in a cool voice.  “Some fight between the girls?”

His best friend, Liam, answered, “Kinda.  A fight over you between Brit and some girls.”

            “Why?  Why over me?”

“Because,” I said, “Kian, Britney said you’re his Prom date and you asked her out.”

“But that’s a lie.  You’re my date, Lisa!  Not her!  And I didn’t asked her out.” He said putting an arm over my shoulders and looking very clueless.  I saw Britney’s face turn red…I don’t know for…anger or jealousy.  But anyway, I sure happy to embarrass her like this…but…I feel embarrass myself being wrapped up with Kian like this.

The bell rang and we all went back to our seats.  Britney excused herself to the clinic because her head’s throbbing.  Home Economics next…huh…a piece of cake.  In this class, we made some special candies for…yeah…Prom!  They’re heart-shaped chocolate and vanilla marshmallow baubles.  I made 3 dozens, a dozen for my parents, a dozen for my little sister, Joe Anne, and a dozen for my grandma back in Montana!

Only 2 hours remaining then we’re through.  1 hour for P. E. and 1 hour for Computer.  Our P. E. class was Football so…no problem.  Computer…hmmm…a little bit tricky.  We had a chatting session between the whole class.  LAN connection was used.  I was situated in computer #3, with Billie and Valentine beside me.  Kian was computer #20, beside Jesse.  We were planning to connect to Dana in computer #7 and talk to her but a call came in first.  I don’t know who’s it’s from.

Before I even read the sender, Billie said, “Oh!  It must be him!”

Then Valentine added, “Oh Kian!  My prince charming!  Kiss me now, oh please hear my plea!”

I was irritated.  I said, “Stop that!  We’re not sure who it’s from.”  I looked at my screen and click OK.  They’re right!  It’s Kian!  All the people from Computer 1 to 8 wooed and patted me on the back.

He wrote, “Hey beautiful!  How are ya!  Still, sorry for the shock and the…u know…!  Thanx for the yes answer you gave me!  See ya l8r! =)Kian(=”

I blushed.  I looked at him and pulled a face.  I wrote back, “Hey_charming!  No_problem_with_that!  Glad_to_do_it!  LOL!  Thanx_for_asking_me!  Luvz, LLLiiisssaaa(“,)”

I heard him laugh across the room.  Then Dana, Billie, Valentine and Jesse’s calls came all together containing one message: “He got eyes for you sista!  Lucky you!”  Huh?  Eyes for me?  Impossible!  Definitely impossible!  But what if?  Well, it’s not time to talk about that now!  I have so much to do now…18 calls!

Computer class finished…just waiting…again for the bell to deliver the glorious sound of its ring.  It rang!  Oh my God!  School’s finished for the day!  As I usually do, I walk home by myself.  Walking on the usual empty street, looking at the solemn trees dancing with the breeze, I scurried on. I thought of what I’m going to do for the Prom, what to wear and how to react.  As I was going to open the door of our house, I heard Kian call me.

“Lisa!  Wait a sec!” he shouted panting.  I waited for him on our porch steps.  He was holding a box wrapped in fluffy red ribbon.  He came up to me, handed me the box and said, “Here.  I forgot to give you this.”  He smiled.  “And this…” He kissed me again.  Then ran home.

He left me there; my eyes were following him.  “Wow, fresh!” I said.  Then my mom opened the door.  “Oh hi, Mom!”

“Hi, honey!  How’s school?  Any partner for the Prom?” she asked.

“Fine, Mom!  I got a perfect score in our Literature class and I didn’t even study!  And yes, uh…I have a partner.  It’s…it’s…Kian.”  I answered turning red.

“Ooh!  My baby’s turning into a lady!” she nudged me.  “Kian?  You mean Kian John Francis Egan?  Wow!  You have some taste, Lisa.”

“Aw… Mom!  Stop it already!  I’ve had a mouthful of that in school already!” we both laughed.  “But, Mom!  I have a problem.  I don’t have anything to wear.  And…and…it’s next week!  Oh my goodness!”

“Not a problem, sweet.  I have your dress all dry-cleaned and ready to wear.”  She accompanied me to my room and opened my closet.  There hung the most beautiful Prom gown that I’ve ever seen.  It was all black with a long slit on the right leg and nearly back less.  It came with matching 3” heeled sandals.  “My gift to you, my Irish sweetheart!  Wear it.  Let’s see how it looks like you.”

“Oh Mommy!  Thank you so very much!” I hugged her with all my might.  I grabbed the dress and slipped it on.  It looked super on me.  My butt was well tight and my breasts really stand out!  I looked like a super model…the punch line is…I’m just 5’3”.  I thanked my mom again and continued looking at my gorgeous self.  I’m not too braggy, though.

When I was hanging the dress again, my mobile phone rang.  I looked at the screen.  It said “Kian”.  I picked it up and put I against my ear.  “Hello Kian!”

“Hey gorgeous!  Howz you?” he asked.

“Will you stop calling me that?!  I’m not what you think I am!”

“Well, okay then.  But to tell you the truth, my friends and I say you’re cute!  By the way, I called because I just wanna make sure that you’re going with me.”

“Sure!  I’m going.  I already have my outfit,” I said looking back at the black gown.

“Great!  So see you next week!  I’m going to expect that you’ll be beautiful…well…as always!  By the way, please wear what I gave you, okay?”

“Yes, Ki!  I will,” but I’m not sure what it was yet.  “Say, Kian, I have to go.  There’s a call wait.  See ya!  Bye!”

“Bye love!” he said and we hang up.

The incoming call was from Billie.  “Hi girl!  How are you?”

“Hey!  You sound cheerful!” she answered.  “What took you so long?  Another call?”  I opened the box Kian gave me.  It was a necklace with a small heart on it.  Embedded in the middle, was a small diamond.  Engraved at the back was, “Hope you like it…luv, Kian…” Whoa!  I must say, it costs a fortune!  My grandpa used to work for De Beers and he taught all about diamonds and I must say that it’s real…and yep a De Beers quality!  I wore it and I loved it!  I forgot all about Billie!  “Hello?  Is there anyone there?  Lisa?”

“Oh sorry, Billie!  I was just looking at the necklace Kian gave me.”  Oh shit!  Why did I say Kian again?

“Ooh!  Kian Egan!  Suppose that’s why you took so long to answer my call.  He’s on the other line, is he?”

“Yeah, yeah!  It’s him!  Like it’s not everyday he calls.  It’s an everyday happening, girl!”

“So what did he say to you?  Did he include a letter or a note to the necklace?  Lemme know!”

“Oh nothing.  He just made sure that I’m not backing up and he included, ‘I hope you like it’ on the back of the pendant.  That’s all!  Why do you wanna know?”

“On nothing, too.  I just think he has fallen head-over-heels on you.  He digs you, Lisa!  And I’m sure that every girl in the school is jealous of you.  Believe me, I know!”

“On me?  No never!  He can't waste his killer smile, his gorgeous bangs, his blue sea eyes and his soft lips on me!"” Wait a sec, I just said every thing I love physically from him.  Oh!  Lisa, you’re in big trouble now!

“Ow?  So how come you know his lips were soft?  How did you know he has deep blue sea eyes?  You don’t have to be girly with me, Lis!  I saw you kissing behind the big oak.  I was eating on the other side when I heard some smooches.  I looked behind me and saw you two kissing,” she chuckled.

“BILLIE!  He seduced me!  I can't help it!  And I bet the whole world knows it!” I pouted.  Billie was such a blabbermouth.

“Well, just after you left the campus, yours truly delivered the good news through the loud speakers!  And to find proof, we saw you again kissing in front of your house.”

“Oh!  Damn you!  You shouldn’t have done that!  Now I can't show my face to the class anymore!”

“Oh!  Sorry!  But, that’s no problem.  Everyone promised to not jeer on you.  They took it in a soft way.  Actually, they’re happy.  But still, one thing’s for sure…HE LOVES YOU!”

“He can't!  I mean, no!  I don’t know!  Billie, it’s not true!” I almost shouted over the phone.  Although, I do not 100% believe it, I’m starting to have doubts.

“Well, why don’t you ask him?  Ask him.  It won’t hurt.  And do you have feelings for him?”

“Billie, you know I’m not as straight forward as you.  I mean, I can't ask him just…that!  I’m shy to tell him how I feel.”

“Well, sis, what DO you feel?” she asked.  I’m getting pretty scared all of a sudden.

“We’re just friends!  Well, for me we’re friends.  And it’ll always remain that way.”

“So, for you…just friends.  How about for him?” I didn’t answer.  “I take that as an ‘I don’t know’ answer.  Well, Lisa, that’s for you to find out.  I’ve gotta go!  I have to pick my dress.  Ta-ta!”  She hung up.

I put down the phone on my dresser and curled up on the bed.  “What if he loves you, Lisa?  What if he really has something for you?  What if…” I asked myself.  I was really confused.  I went to ask my mom for advice.

She was cooking snack for Joe Ann.  “Mom, can we talk for a minute?  I have something to ask you about…well…Kian.”

“Okay, Lisa.  Go on, what is it about him?” she asked leaning to the oven to get the cake.  She gave a small slice to my 2-year-old sister Joe Ann.

“Well, Mom, see this.  Kian asked me out for his Prom date.  While he was doing that, he kissed me and I gave in,” I gulped.  “Then, he called me ‘beautiful’ and ‘gorgeous’.  Then, he gave me this necklace.”  I showed her the necklace.

She looked at it.  “Oh it’s beautiful!  De Beers I see.  So?  What’s your point regarding him?”

“Well, I don’t know, Mom,” I said.  “My friends tell me that…he has eyes for me…like he has a crush on me.  Mom, I’m scared and puzzled…very, very puzzled.”

“Lisa, that’s great!  So what’s to be scared about?” she asked.  She leaned over…maybe she’s interested.

“Well, I’m scared to hurt him.  I still don’t know what I feel for him and besides, back in the US, I didn’t have an admirer.  I don’t know how to cope with it yet.”

She kinda choked.  “What!?  You don’t know what you feel for him?  Lisa, you’re a big girl!  You’re already 19 years old.  You must know how to cope with this thing called ‘LOVE’.  Sweetie, he loves you and you know it, everybody knows it.  Now all you have to do is to find what you feel for him.”

“That’s my problem!  I don’t know how.  I mean, he’s cute, yeah that’s true.  He has cute eyes, gorgeous smile, and sweet lips, true.  I don’t know, Mom.  I feel attracted to him but it’s mutual.  We’re friends and that’s all.” I said frowning.

“Well, hun, that’s for you to find out.  I do not hold your life anymore.  You’re a grown up already.  You’ll find out eventually.  Now,” she said putting the soiled dishes in the dishwasher, “if you’ll excuse me, I think you need some time alone.”

“Okay, Mom.  Thanks!” and I walked back up to my room.  I curled back onto the bed and analyzed everything.  I only met Kian for 3 years.  He’s my first friend here in Sligo.  From the 1st time I saw him, I feel welcomed.  I admired him.  He’s so talented and caring and…well…he’s cute.  All of the thinking made me sleep.  Maybe a little slumber will refresh my mind.

Your body language says so much

Yeah, I feel it in the way you touch

When you say the words ‘It’s not enough’

C’mon and tell me you’re in love, please…

For the past few days passed before my eyes.  Kian and I seldomly talk now because…well…let’s say I’m kinda avoiding him.  I became a little bashful around him now because everytime I get near him, he puts his arm around me and kisses my forehead.  I’m not used to PDAs.  So I tried to…as much as possible…avoid him.  But I can now see that he has eyes for me.  When he walks with me home, he holds me gently.  He carries my books and my other bulky things.  Sometimes, he treats me to lunch.  And he makes sure I’m always okay.  He’s very protective.  I’m like his baby or something.  Speaking of baby, he even calls me ‘baby’.  In return, I would keep him company and make some songs with him and help him with his homework.  Hey!  But I’m doing that because he’s my friend.   Well, I think…not for long…

The Prom night came and everyone’s excited.  It’ll start around 8:00 until the early hours of the morning.  Kian called me and said to pick me up at 7:30.  I waited in our living room all dressed to kill and ready.  The black dress fits me perfectly and the sandals were just beautiful.  I had a scarf to go with it.  Oh please!  Like it’s the Academy Awards or the Grammy.  My hair was pulled back with a red ribbon.  I wore absolutely no make-up and no stockings on my legs.  I also wore mother of pearl earrings, a gold bracelet, and the necklace Kian gave me.  I twirled my tendrils whilst waiting for him.

At exactly 7:30, he rang the doorbell.  I opened the door and smiled.  “Hi Kian!”

He stood there in awe.  He eyed me from head to toe and said, “Oh God!  Lisa, you look more gorgeous than I expected… Gosh!  You’re so beautiful!”  I blushed and smiled.  “So… you like it?”

“Yeah Ki!  Very much!” I said as he took my hand.  “You don’t have to do it, actually.  You don’t have to spend a lot of money for me.”  I squeezed his hand a bit because he was holding me too loosely.

“No problem, baby.  Someone special like you deserve something special from me,” he said laughing.  He kissed my forehead.  “Now, it’s our big night okay.  So just have fun with me…you’re mine tonight,” he whispered.

We arrived at the ballroom with some good friends.  Billie was with Patrick, Valentine was with Adam, Dana was with Steve, and…well, Britney was with Randall.  There were many people already dancing and drinking.  Our university mates kept praising the way I look and…for having Kian as my date…w/c I never expected.  We spent an hour just talking and drinking juice and making new friends.  Then ‘King and Queen of Hearts’ started playing.  The lights dimmed and everything kinda slowed down.  Kian asked me to dance.

“Can I ask you to dance with me?” he asked offering his hand to me.

“Glad to, Mr. Egan,” I said chuckling.  He led me to the dance floor and put his arms around my waist.  I put mine around his neck.  He’s so tall!  5’8”.  Even with these heels I’m still looking up at him.  We danced with the slow rhythm of the song.  “Kian, thanks for asking me out.  I thought I was gonna stay home and watch in envy.” I said getting lost in his eyes.

He grinned and said, “That’s okay.  Thanks for going with me.  Actually, I don’t want any one else to take to the Prom…just you.” He pulled me close.  His arms moved to my almost bare back.  I can hear his heartbeat getting faster every second.  I held on to him.  “Lisa, I’ve been waiting for this night to come…for this moment to happen.”

“Why Kian?” I asked softly as I moved with him to the side of the dance floor beside the backdoor leading to a beautiful garden.

He put a stray strand of hair behind my ear.  “Nothing.  I just want you in my arms…as a…” he stopped.

“What?  As a friend?” I asked as I pulled away from him.  “Ki, all our classmates tease me for being with you.  I mean, I like it when I’m with you…what I don’t like is the PDA treatment you’re giving me.”  I remembered what my Mom told me to do.  Lisa, it’s now or never.  “Kian, tell me, do you have a crush on me?  Just spill it out.”

“Lisa…yes.  I do have a crush on you ever since I first saw you.  Whilst you’re walking down the street, I feel my knees get weak.  Lisa, I’ve been trying my hardest to keep it but…now…I can't help it.”

“But…why can't we stay as friends.  It’s too early!” I said as I turned away from him.

“Lisa,” he said.  He turned me back facing him.  I avoided his gaze.  “It’s not enough.  I’m madly in love with you, can't you see?  “Lisa, I love you.  I hope you do too.”  Before I could say anything else, he pulled me close to his heart.  “…Did I dream that we danced forever?  In a wish that we made together?  On a night that I prayed would never end.  You know it’s not my imagination or a part of the orchestration…” he sang.  “…I’m the king…you’re the queen of hearts…”

I gave in to him.  Now I know how I feel… I love him too.  “I love you, Kian Egan.  With all my heart,” I whispered as I looked up to meet his eyes.  “I was scared to feel it at first but when I proved that you feel it too…I guess it’s just proper to tell.”

“And I love YOU, Melissa David.  And I want to spend my lifetime loving you even if it’s all I’ll ever do,” he said.  We kissed and continued to dance.  We didn’t stop snogging until we heard clapping coming from the other people in the big ballroom.  I turned crimson and Kian smiled.  He dragged me to the middle of the dance floor and announced, “Everyone…I just wanted you to know that I’m in love with the gorgeous lady beside me.  And I want to be with her forever.”

They all clapped and said nice things.  I was surprised when Britney approached me and said, “Lisa, I’m so happy for you two.”

Don’t; don’t let me be the last to know

Don’t hold back, just let it go

I need to hear you say, you need me all the way

Oh if you love me so

Don’t let me be the last to know

Kian and I remained girlfriend boyfriend until he proposed to me on our graduation day.  All of us wore college rings except for me!  I proudly wore a silver band with an emerald at the middle.  We got married 2 years after that; we were both professionals working for a big company.  Now we’re living at a seaside mansion we bought for our 5th wedding anniversary.  I’m looking towards the great sea, spraying itself on the big boulders overlapping the cliff.  I’m with our newborn baby boy Kian Jr. suckling on my breast.  He’s our 2nd baby.  Our eldest, Vanessa, is with Kian inside…preparing dinner!  Little Kian Jr. stopped suckling and looked up at me with that ‘Oh I’m so glad you’re here, Mommy’ look.  Oh it just makes me shake and cry.  He smiled and I cuddled him.  Well, I just told you how Kian and I met.

“Mom!  Dinner’s done!” my five-year-old Vanessa Mae said tugging my dress.  “Oh hello there, little daddy!” she calls him that because he’s a Jr.

“Okay, sweetie.  Little Kian and I will be right there in a minute,” I said kissing her on the forehead.  She scurried back inside the house.

Well, maybe that’s it!  Gotta go now.

“Honey,” Kian said putting his arms around our little baby and me.  “Let’s go inside.  You two must be getting cold.  Are ya little chum?” he said whilst tickling our boy on the tummy.  He laughed and we just…awed.

“Okay, love.  Let’s go inside.  I’m getting pretty hungry and little Kian here wants a daddy bear hug,” I said as I handed him Kian Jr. and kissing him on the cheek.

“You’re so cute, little guy!  You look like your gorgeous Daddy!  By the way, Lisa, whom on earth are you talking to?  You can't be talking to him, are you?”

Oh no one, Kian.  Just me…
