Survivors> chapter 13

ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ISLAND
A new campfire was lit on the old campfire.  The five men who arrived by boat sat side-by-side attaining warmth from the fresh fire. The younger men have been busy distributing food and water to their comrades.  The one called Keith was sharpening his bolo while the other one called Rich was cleaning his gun.  Kevin, the leader of the group and the oldest watches them in amusement.
"There is no need to do that around here. I do not think there are other people in this island. Our contact said that this is the far most undistinguished island in the map. Chances are if we ever encounter people, it should aborigines or dead people from plane crashes."
The two only looked at him and continued to do what they were doing. Jason and Lance, the two blondes who were in charge with cooking and cleaning up sat beside their leader and ate their own share of food.
"I don't know if we are really alone in this island. I knew I heard something different from behind those bamboo trees a while ago." Lance said.
"It could have been just a wild boar, nothing else. One thing that we don't need is distraction. Our contacts in the British Museum would not give us more time to handle the paintings. If we do not retrieve it back for them, we will not be rewarded of the 5 million pounds we informed them as ransom."
After hearing the amount of money they were going to accumulate, all four men stopped and went into their dream state. The money is the most important thing in making this journey. And their leader is right they don't have time for distraction.
"We should only be prepared for the worst as we are still going to find that waterfall and its cave behind it. That is where the paintings are." Kevin informed them spreading the map on the sand and pointing the key points with a small stick. "It is the only waterfall in this island. Right in the middle of the cave is a chamber where the paintings are held. If we move quickly we would be able to get it in no time spent at all. So it is suggested that you all sleep early and lay off from drinking too much. Keith and Rich, no beer for now. We have to wake up early and hunt down the waterfall. Am I understood?"
Both only nodded. Kevin left the campfire and got back to their boat where he would be sleeping.   The four settled to place sleeping bags by the fire and sleep by the beach. Keith watches Lance put more firewood into the flaming pit.
"Sometimes I don't know if he treats us like his comrades or silly little boys playing with plastic guns and knives. He irritates me." Keith said of Kevin.  Rich smirks at him.
"He's only worried we'd get distracted. He doesn't really want to happen what happened at Kenya when we were supposed to deliver the ivory tusks then ended up in jail because you got horny and dated undercover anti-poaching officials."
Keith chuckles remembering the adventure. "Yeah. But we got out right? Besides didn't he spend his time fucking that black-haired beauty girl, Holly during our whole stay? He looked drained when he got back on the boat. And she was wearing gold all over as she waved out to us."
Rich draws a circle on the sand. "Remember she was the one who got us out and yeah he admits she was a storm in bed." Both laughed uncontrollably as Lance and Jason intently listens.
"Why is it that every time they sit together, it is like they have something in common? Always talking about women and how many times they laid on, then the next thing you know they'll be breathing down their necks like they don't give a shit at all if they are friends?" Jason asks Lance as he puts away the pots and pans they used. Lance smiles back to him.
"That's because they are friends and they only bicker with each other when they're drunk. You don't have to mind them. So, how is Carol? Has she written to the address you gave her?"
"Nah. My contact never said anything about any letter. I told Kevin that after this adventure I'm retiring. I miss my family and I need to live better than this. This can't be forever." Jason looks at Lance.
Lance nods. "Yeah me too. I received word from Jenna the other week. She's asking when I'm coming back and marry her. I mean with all the times I have been away from her, she still wants to marry me. Now that is what I call true love. I can't let her wait forever."
"I just hope everything turns out well after this." Jason looks back at Keith and Rich who were still laughing their ass off their own jokes.  "I don't want to end up anything like those two." Lance lifts his gaze to the two and smirks.
"Neither do I."

It was the middle of the night and unknown to the people at the other side of the island their own intruders have come around.  Shadows went through trees, eyes of different colors sparkled from the light of the campfire. In hand were long sharp pointed spears. One by one they emerged out of the forest looking around the freshly lit campfire and the sleeping ones beside it.
The boat sits still in the calm water. One bikini-clad girl went up and looked around to see if there is anyone aboard.  She finally saw its tenant, sleeping comfortably in a black crocheted hammock. She looked at his sleeping form and crinkled her forehead. She angled her head to further stare at his familiar good looks. She shook her head a bit then sighs, stepping back and leaves the dock.
Before the temporary intrusion finally finished, one of them counted the number of people and memorized how many boxes and important things are on the island. Another joined her and followed the positions of the anchor and the long ropes that were keeping the boat steady as a rock. The young man grabbed her hand and pulled her inside the forest. Quickly they flee, full with information about the intruders. They can now go back to their own camp and plan a defense attack.
