365. Edward the Elder King of England, 33G Grandfather, M. Born in 0871 in Wessex, England. Edward the Elder King of died in Farrington, Berkshire, England on 17 Jul 0924, he was 53. Buried in Winchester Cathedral, London, England.

Well-trained by Alfred, his son Edward 'the Elder' (reigned 899-924 ) was a bold soldier who defeated the Danes in Northumbria at Tettenhall in 9 10 and was acknowledged by the Viking kingdom of York. The kings of Strathc lyde and the Scots submitted to Edward in 921. By military success and patien t planning, Edward spread English influence and control. Much of this was due to his alliance with his formidable sister Aethelflaed, who was married to t he ruler of Mercia and seems to have governed that kingdom after her husband' s death. Edward was able to establish an administration for the kingdom of E ngland, whilst obtaining the allegiance of Danes, Scots and Britons. Edward d ied in 924, and he was buried in the New Minster which he had had completed a t Winchester. Edward was twice married, but it is possible that his eldest so n Athelstan was the son of a mistress.

In 0919 when Edward the Elder King of was 48, he second married Eadgifu\Edgiva of Kent, 34G Grandmother, F, daughter of Sigehelm Earl of Kent, M (abt 0871-). Born in 0896. Eadgifu\Edgiva of died on 25 Aug 0968, she was 72. Buried in Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury, Kent.

They had the following children:

In 0893 when Edward the Elder King of was 22, he third married Ecgwyn Queen of England, 36G Grandmother, F. Ecgwyn Queen of died abt 0901.

They had one child:
i. Edith/Saint, 35G Grandmother, F. Edith/Saint died in 0937.

On 30 Jul 0925 Edith/Saint married Sitric Caoch King of Dublin and York, 35G Grandfather, M, son of Sitric\Sigtryggr Halfdansson King of Dublin, M (-0896).
