Welcome to the homepage for the Winamp 2.x to QCD 3.x Skin Conversion
utility.
While the utility is still in beta, new features are being added frequently.
Hopefully the folks at Quintessential can keep the skin format stable
enough for this to get past beta (my worst fear is that I'll get this
to version 1.0, go to post it to the Quinnware message board, and find
out they've changed the skin format) ;o) -- update: Paul from Quinnware
assured me this will not happen!!
Like the Quintessential Player, not to mention most of the WinAmp skins,
this utility is FREEWARE. I like and appreciate all the hard work that
went into making GOOD skins for WinAmp (even made a few as t_journeyman...
dunno about the good part though) and didn't want for them to be restricted
to the WinAmp player only. The free-form skinning possible in QCD allows
for almost seamless conversion.
One of the issues I don't think will ever be able to be fixed is the
difference in how WA and QCD handle bitmapped fonts. WinAmp used a straight
pixel-to-pixel copy, while QCD uses colors and a black and white luminance
map.
The utility is written in Visual Basic 6, and requires the runtimes available
on Microsoft's site.

I've done quite a bit of work since December
(relocated our place of residence, Christmas, etc), but still
managed to do some more work on the converter.
WSZ files (compressed WinAmp skins, mostly from winamp.com)
should now be completely working. Of course, that's no guarantee
that the skin inside works... depends on the skin maker.
Also fixed the problem where the regions.txt (the WinAmp transparency
information) was present, but without information. It should
now recognize that there is nothing important in the file.
I've decided that 1.0 will not have a fully-functional playlist.
I want to try and emulate the WinAmp playlist as muc as possible,
which will require mapping out extending areas for each of
the playlist menus (not an easy task, if possible at all)

Got almost all nums_ex number fonts working.
Still have a problem with some of the QSF files, not sure
why. Some error out due to non-alphanumeric characters --
I'm working on a fix for that. For now, just unzip the QSF
file and use the individual kids.
Added code to make sure the font color is contrasted enough
to read in the track display. Still uses only the colors defined
int he WinAmp skin.
Can't figure out the transparency issues at the present --
may have to do it the slow and painful way instead of the
quick and painless one.
Getting closer to 1.0!!! If I can't solve the transparency,
font and slider issues soon, I may just release 1.0 anyway
and continue developing new features.
