Icom Amplifier Interface
An External "Relay in the Cable" interface fits the Icom 706 703, 718 and 7000

by Bob W2ENY

The Icom 7000, 718, 703 and 706 (all models) internal relay has low contact ratings and becomes problematic in most shack conditions. This cable simply plugs into the multi-pin accessory jack on the rear of the Icom 706. Four feet of shielded cable and an RCA/Phono type plug fits to your amplifier.

This package is compact and streamline, all components located inside the connector. Unlike other solutions, there is no klunky external box and no need to apply other external power. Although there's a relay inside the DIN connector, it looks like an ordinary cable.

For the technical types, the circuit uses voltages available on two pins of the radio's accessory jack for switching. Contacts are rated for 2 amps DC and 0.6 amps AC, more than sufficient for many amplifiers (Such as Heath SB220, Collins 30L1, 30S1, Henry 2K, Ameritron AL-80, Dentron GLA-1000, etc.)

Save a few bucks, no more OPC-599 breakout accessory cable needed!

If you have an ICOM 7000, 718, 703, 706, mkII or mkIIG radio and an amplifier, this is what you need!

Here's a close up view of the interface:

This interface plugs right into your 706,
without the $$$ OPC-599 accessory cable!
