Cast Pics and Info

On this page I include character information about the cast of one of my favorite TV shows.

Stringfellow Hawke; Actual size=180 pixels wide

Jan-Michael Vincent ("Stringfellow Hawke")

Seasons 1-3 (1984-1986)

No matter how people feel about Jan himself (very troublesome), he was the heart of this show along with Airwolf herself. The whole background and mystique of the show was based around Hawke and his dark past. Dark past meaning the death of his parents at ten, his only love's death in high school, and his brother Saint John who's MIA in Vietnam. String came on board to steal Airwolf back for the Firm, because he was their best back-up pilot for Airwolf on the Airwolf Project besides Airwolf's creator Dr. Charles Henry Moffett (David Hemmings). String had been working since during the Vietnam War, and still worked missions worthwhile for the Firm's Deputy Director Michael Archangel. String decided piloting the supercopter and hiding it from the Firm would be a great bargining chip in the government's search for his missing brother. In 1986 String discovered St. John had an Amerasian son, named Le Van. String kept an eye on him, until his Aunt Minh was murdered in the 3rd Season Finale, "Birds of Paradise". String then offered to take him in and be "his daddy". In 1987 when String had valueable evidence, proving his brother was still alive in Vietnam, after several packages were delivered to String at Santini Air with St. John's personal belongings. Jason Locke (Archangel's replacement) and the new Airwolf crew mounted a search for St. John after String was badly injured and Dom killed in a helicopter explosion. It still discussed by many fans, "did String die?" We'll yes and no. It was written so if he died, it would make sense. It was also written that, if you wanted to believe it, String disappeared, to live like a hermit. Away from civilization. I like to believe he lived.

Best "Airwolf" performances: "Pilot", episodes #1 & 2, Season One (1984). "Sweet Britches", episode #1, Season Two (1984). "HX1", episode #8, Season Two (1984). "The Horn of Plenty", episode #1, Season Three. "Airwolf II", episode #2, Season Three (1985). "Eagles", episode #7, Season Three (1985). "Annie Oakley", episode #8, Season Three (1985). "Birds of Paradise", episode #22, Season Three (1986). "Blackjack", episode #1, Season Four (1987).

Jean Bruce Scott ("Caitlin O'Shannessy")

Seasons 2-3 (1984-1986)

After a very male-dominated 1st Season (Spring 1984). The producers decided a more female influence was needed in the show. At the end of the 1st Season (1984), the season finale "To Snare a Wolf", introduced Toni Donitelli (guest star Kathleen Lloyd). She was already quick friends with Dom because of her Italian heritage, and a there was quickly sexual tension between her and String due to her no-nosense attitude, and sense of humor. I don't know why they skipped on the character, but on the 2nd Season Premiere, "Sweet Britches", a new female character was introduced. This time she was staying as a perminate cast-member. The character was Caitlin O'Shannessy, a Texas Highway Patrol chopper pilot, who was saved by String with Airwolf, from a corrupt Sheriff's desolate jail in the middle of the desert. She quickly searched for String after his disappearence from Pope County, Texas and hunted him down to Dom's air service, Santini Air. She asked for a job so she could get closer with String and Dom, and quickly was added to the Airwolf crew due to her "too much" knowledge of String, Dom, Airwolf, Archangel, and the Firm.

Best "Airwolf" performances: "Sweet Britches", episode #1, Season Two (1984). "The Truth About Holly", episode #4, Season Two (1984). "The Horn of Plenty", episode #1, Season Three (1985).

Geraint Wyn Davies ("Major Mike Rivers")

Season 4 (1987)

Maj. Mike Rivers was a hand-picked replacement by Jason Locke to be Co-Pilot of Airwolf. At the time, when String was badly injured, and Dominic dead, Locke needed someone quick to help find Airwolf and it's hiding place, and pilot the jet-chopper in a raid mission to get the newly discovered St. John out of Vietnam. Mike was hard to control at times, and very quick tempered. Alot more like String than his own brother, St. John. Sadly, Geraint Wyn Davies never got a episode devoted to himself only. The other 4th Season (1987) cast members all did. Some even more than once. The closest for Geraint would've probably "A Piece of Cake" in Season Four (1987).

Best "Airwolf" performances: "A Piece of Cake", episode #6, Season Four (1987). "On The Double", episode #17, Season Four (1987). "Welcome To Paradise", episode #24, Season Four (1987).

Anthony Sherwood ("Jason Locke")

Season 4 (1987)

Archangel's replacement at the Firm after his transfer to the far east was Jason Locke. Locke wasn't really a big influence on the show's storylines, he was just there. Not like Archangel who was as much apart of everything as the Airwolf crew themselves. Didn't really care for Locke. He was alright. Not much to say on him though.

Best "Airwolf" performances: "Blackjack", episode #1, Season Four (1987). "Poppy Chain", episode #22, Season Four (1987).

St. John Hawke; Actual size=180 pixels wide

Barry Van Dyke ("Saint John Hawke")

Season 4 (1987)

Barry Van Dyke was a wonderful actor to takeover the show's star spot. After the cancellation of the network version of "Airwolf" on CBS in 1986, Barry was the star of the new cast in the 4th Season on the USA Cable Network in 1987. He played Saint John Hawke, or St. John for short. He was Stringfellow's long-lost MIA brother from Vietnam. String had been looking for St. John during the first three seasons of the show, and St. John was found by the new Airwolf crew in the Season Premiere of the 4th Season (Spring 1987) titled "Blackjack". After St. John was returned to the states by the Firm, he took over for a injured String as the head of the Airwolf crew.

Best "Airwolf" performances: "Blackjack", episode #1. "A Town For Hire", episode #3. "Welcome To Paradise", episode #24. All Season Four (1987).

DomGunRepair.jpg

Ernest Borgnine ("Dominic Santini")

Seasons 1-3 (1984-1986)

Ernest Borgnine's character Dom was the comic relief of the show for the steely-eyed and silent Stringfellow Hawke. Dom was String's best-friend and mentor. Dom had raised String and St. John since they were adolescents, after their parents died in a boating accident. Dom had served with their father in the Air Force, back during World War II. Dom a family friend and decided to take them in and raise them the rest of the way. Dom could be quick tempered at times, but he had a heart bigger than himself, and loved to let it shine. Sadly he was killed in the 4th Season Premiere, "Blackjack", from a helicopter explosion.

Best "Airwolf" performances: "One Way Express", episode #6, Season One (1984). "Mad Over Miami", episode #9, Season One (1984). "Sweet Britches", episode #1, Season Two (1984). "Firestorm", episode #2, Season Two (1984). "The Truth About Holly", episode #4, Season Two (1984). "Sins of the Past", episode #6, Season Two (1984). "The Deadly Circle", episode #10, Season Three (1985).

Alex Cord ("Michael Coldsmith Briggs III - Archangel")

Seasons 1-3 (1984-1986)

Archangel was the Deputy Director of the Firm, and the man that gave the Airwolf crew of String, Dom, and Cait their orders and missions during the first three seasons of the show. A bit of a mystery man, nothing about his past was ever revealed during the CBS network run of the show. He had the eye-patch due to an attack by Dr. Moffett (creator of Airwolf) with Airwolf on Red Star Control during the "Pilot" episode in Season One (1984). He always had beautiful assistants in Marella, Gabrielle, Lydia, Laura, and many many others. He did find himself needing desperate help from evil 'mind controllers' during the 2nd Season (1984-1985) episode, "Fallen Angel", and the 3rd Season (1985-1986) episode, "Fortune Teller". In Season Four (1987) he was written off as having been transfered to the "far east". His replacement was Jason Locke.

Best "Airwolf" performances: "Pilot", episodes #1 & 2, Season One (1984). "Bite of the Jackal", episode #4, Season One (1984). "Fallen Angel", episode #7, Season Two (1984). "Airwolf II", episode #2, Season Three (1985). "Fortune Teller", episode #4, Season Three (1985). "Crossover", episode #5, Season Three(1985). "Kingdom Come", episode #6, Season Three (1985).

jo.jpg

Michele Scarabelli ("Jo Santini")

Season 4 (1987)

Jo was Dom's un-heard-of niece. Never before explained in the series, unlike St. John, she was the Santini-link in the 4th Season (1987) after Dom's death. She took over as head of Santini Air, and Caitlin's place on the Airwolf crew (still unknown what happened to Caitlin). She was the one that found Airwolf thanks to String, and helped Mike and Locke get St. John out of Vietnam. She and St. John reflected several times during the 4th Season (1987) on their past experiences with the deceased Dom, and missing String.

Best "Airwolf" performances: "Blackjack", episode #1. "Escape", episode #2. "A Piece of Cake", episode #6. "On The Double", episode #17. "The Golden One", episode #19. "Flying Home", episode #23. "Welcome To Paradise", episode #24. All Season Four (1987).

marella.jpg

Deborah Pratt ("Marella")

Seasons 1-2 (1984-1985)-Occaisional

Marella was Archangel's sexy assistant at the Firm. She appeared in and out with other girls, but she was the mainstay. Not much background on her, but she also flew Archangel around in his sparkling white Bell JetRanger helicopter. Deborah herself married "Airwolf" series Creator and at the time Executive Producer Donald P. Bellisario in 1984. She was the only "Airwolf" cast member to work with the crew of "Airwolf", but solely writing the 2nd Season (1984-1985) episode, "Fallen Angel", in which she also briefly guest starred. She appeared in the following episodes:

Season One (Jan. 1984 - Apr. 1984):

"Pilot"/"Shadow of the Hawke"/"Airwolf"
"Daddy's Gone a Hunt'n"
"Proof Through The Night"
"One Way Express"
"Echos from the Past"
"Fight Like a Dove"
"Mad Over Miami"
"And They Are Us"
"Mind of the Machine"
and - "To Snare a Wolf"

Season Two (Sep. 1984 - Apr. 1985)

"Moffett's Ghost"
"Fallen Angel"
"Severance Pay"
and - "Short Walk To Freedom"

Best "Airwolf" performances: "Fallen Angel", episode #7, Season Two (1984). "Short Walk To Freedom", episode #22, Season Two (1985).
