SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES

LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY @ THE ROSELAND BALLROOM

This is Jules' personal story & review of April 19th

It was raining pretty hard. I got a cab right away. That's what happens when  you don't worry. The rain was pounding the cab. The sky was eggplant. It was  all too exciting. perfect Siouxsie weather. The cab driver...Brendon...3+  years clean and sober in AA. He turned off the meter...didn't wanna charge me  for rain time and gridlock. Two for two...everything was a flow. Mini meeting  held in a cab on the way to Siouxsie...what could be better.

Roseland. Bye Brendon. Cyril and his sister who I was about to meet (very  sweet) Mylene were waiting for me. I run inside and grab my tix and hang with them. We were sent to wait online. Kenneth ( my brother) is there. I introduce him and Cyril. Mylene leaves for a movie. Cyril and I run across the street for some gum and a diet coke for Kenneth. We come back and take a few pictures and head in. We head right for the merchandise and each buy t-shirts, the new single etc.

We are in the equivalent to row 2 or 3. Wow. Oh boy. Three for three...i didn't worry where we'd be once we were inside of Roseland. We are that close upfront and to the side. Jules makes friends with Bruce the sound guy. Nice guy, Howard's age and a fellow Oneontaite. hee. He gives me the Siouxsie setlist 1/2 thru the show...cool, and this goth bracelet...and I am just feeling good in my skin, having a blast.

Suicide (opening band)...awful. People are paying them to get off the stage. I'm serious! I keep looking behind me at Cyril anwe roll our eyes...now we are excited for Siouxsie.OMG...can it be...I am soo far up and to the side as well...that I see...Steven Severin (the bassist)...my heart starts pounding...it finally sinks in that i am here about to hear, see, my legendary musical icon for 21 years....Budgie (Siouxsie's husband and drummer....he kicks the skins!)...and...oh man...Oh God thank you...SIOUXSIE!!!I almost cried. I screamed. I'm in heaven. oh wow. "Cyril" I yell.  He was just besides himself too...a veteran fan for 15 years. They open with Pure...and roll right into Jigsaw Feeling. wow...I can't believe they played that. Roseland is packed...they place is gothed out...old fans like me and new fans too. Siouxsie says "Thanks for the atmospherics. Hold on tight...it's gonna be a bumpy ride"  "WOOO!".

Cascade follows her cool comments. I was in heaven. I LOVE Cascade...must be in my top 20 Siouxsie faves. Sooo I am singing, and lap dancing this security gate. Cascade turns into...wow...is she trying to make me pee my pants...MITTAGEISEN!!!(Metal Postcard VB)...which then turns into Tenant, Happy House, Christine and Lullaby. oh man...I think I have died and gone to heaven. Am I really here?? Yes...I am.

Siouxsie says "turn off the AC...I like to get all hot and sweaty!" oh yah! Meanwhile...soo great seeing Steven Severin and Budgie has always been the best drummer...EVER!!!

Lands End. Great tune. Then an ok Kiss Them for Me (one of their US hits)...but not sung great. Siouxsie makes up for it with Cities In the Dust. Could I have sang any louder or danced and sweated it up any harder. I pull my hair back...I am just getting started.

I Could Be Again then Icon (never my faves...but I have never been soo in the moment and happier. Then...the unthinkable happens...she plays NIGHTSHIFT! I climbed up on the security gate...(as Siouxsie said "anything goes here tonight") and just swayed. Wish I had had a lighter. Then she sings Eve White/Eve Black. Just incredible!!, and then that turns into Voodoo Dolly. Man is she making love to us old Siouxsie diehard fans. SWOOOON!

That's it. Nah...just joking...back they come onstage for encore #1. And when they came back on stage...we just were thunderous with our gratitude. Encore #1 was a dream come true...SPELLBOUND!!! and............MONITOR!!!!I died and went to heaven.

I couldn't breathe when she went offstage. I just was blissed out of my mind and almost in disbelief from my experience.

Back onstage...we are all nuts...2 hrs of awesome tunes...wait there's more....Encore #2. ARABIAN KNIGHTS (I lost my mind on "everyone screams...) and then Drop Dead Celebration (which she dedicates to her brother who was there) and then a George Harrision tune called
Blue Jay way.

wow. Cyril and I just look at each other...our jaws are on the floor. He and I and Kenneth go outside and meet up with Mylene. We tell her all about the show. Kenneth and I hang around the corner with about 10 other people to see if Siouxsie would take pics and sign autographs. She comes out at 12:40am...and waves hi and hops into a limo. She must have been pooped.

What a show she gave us.

What a night.
