SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES- PREVIEW:
Even at a cutting-edge music festival, someone's got to represent the old school. So why not veteran British goth-punk Siouxsie Sioux and her gang, who reunited this month for a five-show tour set to end at Coachella?

The band, which broke up shortly after the release of 1995's "The Rapture," reconvenes with vocalist Sioux, co-founding bassist Steve Severin, ex-Vibrators guitarist Knox and Sioux's drummer (and husband) Budgie.

After turning their late-'70s worship of the Sex Pistols into their own abrasively bleak original thing, Sioux et al became one of British punk's most enduring and influential acts. Erotic, dispassionate, playful and dire (sometimes all at once), the music made countless disaffected souls feel as if someone understood.

GIG REVIEW: 'Female Acts Tough to Beat on Fest's Day One' By STEVE BALTIN,(all artists were reviewed on site)

Given the paucity of female acts on this year's package tours, the fact that three slots on the main stage (Princess Superstar, Bjork and the veteran English goth band Siouxsie & the Banshees) went to women is noteworthy.
Siouxsie Sioux led her Banshees, reunited for a brief run of shows, through a dark, guitar-rich set marked by Sioux's volatility. She was captivating as she commanded the stage with dramatic and forceful movements, but some angry comments, including two at the corporate nature of the festival, seemed to come from out of nowhere.

....Over on the main stage, Siouxsie and the Banshees were amassing a good crowd. It was however an ultimately disappointing show. That the band is iconoclasts is indisputable, but 20 years on, Siouxsie Sioux's icy vocals can't hit the high notes and the new songs aren't innovative. When "Kiss Them For Me" goes flat, we leave and keep our older and better Siouxsie memories intact.

(if they're going to give a shit review, I think the least that they could have is to polish up on their grammar first!!...new songs - what like the 11 year old I could Be Again??!!! everyone sauys they didnt play KTFM so what's that about! ...(VB)
