Detailed History
Four Bristol LHS's with Marshall bodywork and Leyland 0.400 6.5 litre diesel engines were bought new by Southern Vectis during 1969 which were delivered in Tilling Green & Cream livery, the Cream being applied around the window frames rather than the usual Cream band below the windows.

All of the batch were repainted into NBC Leaf Green & White livery in:
November 1973: NDL770G [834] (without the White band, subsequently applied around 1976).
February 1976: NDL771G [835]
March 1976: NDL768G [832] & NDL769G [833]

They were withdrawn in:
March 1977: NDL768G [832]
June 1977: NDL769G [833]
July 1981: NDL771G [835]
September 1981: NDL770G [834]

Subsequent History

NDL768G [832]:

  • In June 1977 it was sold to United and operated as their number [1451].
    In August 1982 it was was withdrawn from the United fleet.
  • In October 1982 it passed to APT of Lincoln (dealer).

NDL769G [833]:

NDL770G [834]:

  • In December 1982 it was sold to Martin of Middlewich (dealer).
  • By June 1983 it had passed to Martyrs Memorial Church of Belfast.

NDL771G [835]:

  • In December 1982 it was sold to Martin of Middlewich (dealer).
  • By June 1983 it had passed to Martyrs Memorial Church of Belfast.

After serving with United, NDL769G was acquired by the Aycliffe & District Bus Preservation Society of Newton Aycliffe. Still in NBC Poppy Red & White livery a nearside-front view at the Riverside Quay, Stockton at the start of the 1995 Tyne-Tees Run on 4 June 1995. Note the replacement front trafficators, that were fitted at some stage whilst with United.

Still with the Aycliffe & District Bus Preservation Society of Newton Aycliffe, NDL769G was repainted into the Newtonian red, white & blue livery to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the new town of Newton Aycliffe. A nearside-front view at the Gateshead Metrocentre rally on 29 May 2000.
