Detailed History
Four AEC Regent open-top buses with Brighton, Hove & District five-bay bodywork with half-drop side windows and five-cylinder Gardner 5LW engines were acquired second-hand from Brighton, Hove & District during 1955 by Southern Vectis.

GP6244 was new to Brighton, Hove and District in November 1931 whilst GW6276 / GW6277 & GW6286 were new to them during 1932 operating as their numbers [6244] / [6276] / [6277] & [6286] respectively.
They were originally fitted with AEC six-cylinder petrol engines but these were replaced with Gardner 5LW diesel engines in June 1937 (GW6277) or November 1937 (GP6244) or January 1938 (GW6276) - GW6286 received a replacement AEC Al73 7.7 litre diesel engine in July 1937.
They originally carried ancient open staircase Tilling H27/25RO bodywork but received replacement Brighton, Hove & District bodies (incorporating some parts of the originals) with enclosed stairs in May 1945 (GW6276) or April 1946 (GP6244) or during 1946 (GW6277 & GW6286).

In October 1955 all four of GP6244 / GW6276 / GW6277 & GW6286 were acquired by Southern Vectis as numbers [900] / [901] / [902] & [903] respectively.

A feature of these buses was the arched top of the cab entrance which was not fitted with a door. All four featured two-aperture type "D2" destination screens front & rear and a single-aperture square destination screen over the entrance platform - only the lower destination screens front & rear were used by Southern Vectis with the remaining screens painted over.

GW6277 [902] & GW6286 [903] were never operated.

During the summer season of 1956 GP6244 [900] & GW6276 [901] entered service in Tilling Cream & Green livery. Based at Shanklin they operated as open-top Duplicates on the Sandown - Ventnor part of the service 11 route - this was not officially an open-top route at this time.

During the summer season of 1957 GP6244 [900] & GW6276 [901] operated the very first Southern Vectis dedicated open-top routes Shanklin Esplanade - Sandown Zoo service 44 & Shanklin Esplanade - Rylstone Corner service 45.

They were withdrawn from service in:
May 1960: GP6244 [900]
October 1961: GW6276 [901]
