| Detailed History |
| Three
Bristol KS5G's with ECW bodywork and five-cylinder
Gardner diesel engines were bought new by Southern Vectis
during 1950 which entered service in Tilling Green &
Cream livery. They differed from the Bristol K5G's
previously delivered to Southern Vectis in that they
featured 27 feet long four-bay bodywork and were fitted
with three-aperture type F destination blinds front and
rear. A further eight Bristol KS5G's with ECW bodywork and five-cylinder Gardner diesel engines were bought new by Southern Vectis during 1951 with a further two being delivered during 1952. Both batches were virtually identical to the initial batch purchased in 1950. HDL265 [751] / HDL266 [752] / HDL267 [753] / HDL268 [754] / HDL269 [755] & HDL270 [756] entered service during 1952. In the same way that the earlier Bristol K was so designated, the Bristol KS was designated type LB by Southern Vectis. In August 1953 HDL263 [749] overturned onto its offside along The Mall at Carisbrooke. It was subsequently repaired and returned to service. Between September 1956 and 1960 the "VIA" destination screens were disused and phased-out, being set to display "SOUTHERN VECTIS". In 1958 HDL265 [751] overturned at Totland by falling onto soft ground on its nearside and then turning over onto its offside at an angle across the road. It was subsequently repaired and returned to service. [per Dave Jolliffe] They
