Detailed History
One Bristol K open-top bus with ECW bodywork and five-cylinder Gardner engine was acquired second-hand from Hants & Dorset in November 1964 by Southern Vectis.

FLJ538 was new to Hants & Dorset in May 1940 and were numbered [TD761]. It originally had a six-bay ECW L27/26R body.
In January 1950 it was renumbered to [1086].
In May 1954 a new convertible highbridge (KSW style) four-bay CO32/28R8 8-feet wide body (previously 7.5-feet) was fitted with three-aperture type "F" destination screens fitted front & rear and green leather seating.
In July 1960 FLJ538 [1086] was stolen and driven in to the railway bridge at Fareham Station, the roof was damaged beyond repair whereby the open-top status became permanent.

In November 1964 FLJ538 was acquired by Southern Vectis being numbered [908].

During the summer season of 1965 FLJ538 [908] entered service in Tilling Cream & Green livery. Based at Freshwater Depot it normally operated on the Yarmouth-Alum Bay service 42 route.

During 1970-1971 FLJ538 [908] was fitted with flashing trafficators.

In 1973 FLJ538 [908] was transferred to Shanklin Depot, normally operating the Ventnor - Sandown Zoo service 47 route but was found wanting ascending the steep Cowleaze hills south of Shanklin.

In August 1974 FLJ538 [908] was withdrawn from service.
