Detailed History
Two Bristol K open-top buses with Bristol Tramway six-bay bodywork with single-aperture destination screens front & rear and five-cylinder Gardner 5LW diesel engines were acquired second-hand from Bristol during 1961 by Southern Vectis.
GL6611 & GL6612 were new to Bath Electric Tramways Limited of Bath in May 1939 operating as their numbers [3810] & [3811] respectively.
GL6611 [3810] passed in October 1949 to Bath Tramways Motor Company Limited. Both subsequently passed to Bristol Tramways and were converted to open-top in January 1952 GL6612 [3811] or May 1953 GL6611 [3810] and were renumbered [3616] or [3614] respectively.
In May 1957 both passed to Bristol Omnibus Company Limited. (as GL6611 [3614] & GL6612 [3616]).

In November 1961 they were sold to North of Leeds (dealer).

Also in November 1961 GL6611 & GL6612 were sold to Southern Vectis entering service in the summer of 1962 in Tilling Cream & Green livery as numbers [904] & [905] respectively.

They were withdrawn from service in:
January 1963: GL6611 [904]
September 1964: GL6612 [905]

Subsequent History

GL6611 [904]:

  • In April 1963 it was sold to Aston of Marton (dealer) and scrapped December 1963.

GL6612 [905]:

  • In July 1965 it was sold to North of Sherburn-in-Elmet (dealer).
