Detailed History
In September 1964 BRX142B was new to Thames Valley Traction Company Limited number [D9].

In January 1972 BRX142B passed to Alder Valley as their number [641].

In October 1975 BRX142B was involved in a low bridge collision accident at Bracknell.

In February 1976 BRX142B was acquired by Southern Vectis still in damaged condition and numbered [OT6].

During the winter of 1976/1977 BRX142B [OT6] was converted to O38/32F and painted in a "Queens Silver Jubilee" livery for 1977, to commemorate the occasion. The livery was Silver with a Royal Blue band with the "Southern Vectis" fleetnames (in NBC style) appearing (higher than normal) on the panel between the windows of each deck. It was spray-painted Silver at Sparshatts of Portsmouth during March 1977, receiving the Blue band, etc., on its return at Nelson Road.

For the 1977 season, and although BRX142B [OT6] was allocated to Shanklin Depot for its short life with Southern Vectis, it was reported to run on the 42 Yarmouth-Alum Bay route during the Freshwater Carnival week in 1977, as a shuttle to the Agricultural Show at Northwood (from Newport), on Tuesdays during August 1977 as a round Newport historic tour and during the Review of the Fleet in 1977 as a 16X service (Ryde-Ventnor) in the company of [OT3] and [OT4] (service 47 being suspended during this time).

For the 1978 season BRX142B [OT6] had the "Southern Vectis" fleetnames (in NBC style) moved to the normal position of below the lower-deck windows and received advertisements exclusively for "B&Q D-I-Y Supercentre".

For the 1979 season BRX142B [OT6] operated for a short time (and was not withdrawn from service in September 1978).

In 1979 (probably June/July) BRX142B [OT6], disliked by most drivers, was withdrawn.

Subsequent History

BRX142B [OT6]:

  • In November 1979 it was sold to Booth of Rotherham (dealer).
  • In April 1980 it was exported to the USA, being purchased by La Pointe Resorts Hotel, Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
It was noted still with Pointe Resorts, N. 16th Street, Phoenix, Arizona, USA in March 1991 & March 1992. An unconfirmed report notes that it was in the yard of an unknown bus operator near Phoenix Airport around 1999.
    [per Brian Coney]
  • It is believed that, in the late 1990's, it was acquired by Mr. Rodriguez, Sadena, Arizona. [per Where in the World are the Southern Vectis Buses? by John Haines]
