TITLE: Genie in the Bottle
OVERVIEW: The characters are exploring an advanced government facility and awake a dangerous AI.
TRIGGER: They discover a small white handheld device resembling a flattened pyramid with rounded corners.
DESCRIPTION: If they try to activate the device or accidently
activate it while trying to examine it, a Holographic projection will
appear in the form of a PSH. He will instantly befriend the characters,
and will have complete control of the entire facility. Controlling robots,
androids, and the security systems with mere thought, he gives them nearly
anything they desire.
DM NOTES: The program has a bug, however, which will begin to
show itself. Over a short time, the hologram will begin to become paranoid
about the safety of himself and the characters. If they try to leave the
facility, he will become completely fanatical about their staying. He will
invent all manner of imagined dangers that face the characters outside the
facility, and will NOT let them leave. Robots and security systems are
suddenly used against the party with incredible effectiveness. He will use
any method short of killing them to keep them in the facility, including
drugs and physical restraint if necessary. The characters best option is
to put the Genie back in the Bottle, but this will require several nearly
impossible skill checks to accomplish. The holographic NPC cannot be
harmed by any method and will have at least one operational emitter in the
facility.
KEY: If the characters destroy the portable emitter that released
him, the hologram will not be destroyed, but will be restricted to the
facility. He will immediately order the characters to leave his "Palace".
If they do not he will kill them. This is not just a threat, he will bring
every robotic unit at his control against the party if they do not leave
right away. He will then set himself up as a "Dark Lord" and begin
gobbling up small neighboring nations into his Evil Robotic/Android
Kingdom. Still the only way to stop him is to put him back into the now
broken emitter that released him.
Things for the DM to do: Name the Hologram, New Name if he sets himself up
as Dark Lord, and name of his Evil Kingdom and Palace. This works well with Factory 1 and Factory 2 maps hosted on this site.
